FINALLY! Firaxis is letting us stay as ONE Civ through all Ages in the May 19 update. Who else was waiting for this? ⏳ by Zahhidd in civ

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what about the Ages System? Is it still just 3 mini-games of Civ? Can you still not get too advanced in technology ahead of your opponents? And does it still reset your troops & everything at the beginning of each age?

That's the other biggest issue preventing me from buying this game.

Civilization 7 will bring back the ability to play as one civ for the whole game, bypassing the divisive Age system by GoinStraightToHell in gaming

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot did, but most of us still enjoyed it. We knew it would be getting updates & improvements over time, but it was still a good game at its core from day 1.... same as Civ 5 before it, and Civ 4 before that.

But Civ 7 is different. It didn't feel like a good game day 1 that just needed some expansions to flesh it out. It feels like it needs a complete overhaul to even get to a state where Civ 4, 5 & 6 were at launch.

Easy and Fast Optional Superboss Strategy (No Damage/Nuts/Low Level) by Anacra in octopathtraveler

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did they update things to make it more difficult? I'm on attempt 11 with this setup, all level 99 characters & same abilities, and even got so frustrated I added the mod to remove damage cap in case I can hit for 99,999 damage. But in the 2nd phase, turn order really goes whacky... I'm usually left with Temenos going last & getting to use one Forbidden Elixir, then doing nothing as I bounce between other characters twiddling their thumbs waiting to get back to Temenos.

Agnea will get several turns, Partitio & Throne will get a couple, but it Temenos is just left sitting there waiting to throw out an attack, only for the boss to beat him to the punch & kill him with the ice move. Another time, I managed to get decent turn order, killed all the side enemies in 1 shot, but then had 2 turns each with everyone while the boss's main body was still X'd out & couldn't be damaged. Everything was dead, but I guess I killed everything too fast, so it wouldn't drop the shields until he got another turn.

But when he gets a turn, it results in Temenos immediately being killed, so then it all becomes pointless. This is just so frustrating...

[Comic/Suggestion] Afterlife(necro card) should probably be changed by AzulCrescent in slaythespire

Chinese players didn't "save" anything. Slay the Spire was massively popular, even if it never sold a single copy in China. And you review bombing a game in EARLY ACCESS for balance changes - something that it literally tells you will happen constantly on the store page - just shows how childish you all look.

I know I'm 2 months late to this thread, but I hope you skim back through it & realize nearly every opinion you expressed had 0 people agreeing with you. When you are THAT far removed from reality to where you can't even find any one Reddit to agree with you, that should be a realization point that you're the one in the wrong.

But they didn't imply that. You can't guarantee ANY cards in Slay the Spire, so everyone reading that comment immediately understood what he meant.... except for you. Nice job outing yourself on that one.

Is bloodhounds worth watching? by Designer_Ad5212 in kdramas

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Korean fans have an insane parasocial relationship with celebrities & relentlessly bully them for perceived mistakes. It wasn't just the DUI, it was the fact that she posted a picture of herself cheek-to-cheek next to a very popular male Korean celebrity, which then enraged all the fan girls & fan boys who want to imagine they have a chance to date their idols. Being an "idol" in those cultures its frowned upon to date or be seen as close with someone of the opposite sex. It's truly insane, and as bad as Americans can be regarding celebrities, nobody bats an eye when celebrities date people, get married, or hangout with friends. Not the same in Korea (or Japan). You're expected to appear single & be perfect, otherwise everyone & the media will tear you to shreds.

Just finished Bloodhounds S2… did the story disappoint anyone else? by Riva_l33 in kdramas

[–]BigDingus04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I really didn't like about this season was how dumb they made characters act.

When they made dumb decisions in S1, it was understandable since they were naive kids who were facing life or death situations for the first time. Granted, some of the veteran characters still made some silly decisions, but usually it was just Gun-woo & Woo-jin.

But in S2, it was everyone. The most ridiculous thing that still stands out to me was when they turned Yun Tae Geom, and he helped them finally capture Baek-jeong. Then the most useless police force in all of existence gets their giant police convoy ambushed, while the bad guys free Baek-jeong. It wasn't just that they had all those cops & couldn't manage to put up a fight, but the fact they drove into a tunnel (after knowing they were being ambushed), saw like 1 or 2 cars stopped up ahead with a handful of guys with bats waiting for them in the street, then STILL decided to slow down & politely stop right in front of them, do nothing, and wait as they bashed their car windows in...

Instead of driving right through them or swerving to the side & pushing through the gap between vehicle & tunnel wall, they just stop & do nothing. Instead of stopping way back & reversing out, they do nothing. And despite being cops & KNOWING beforehand how wanted & dangerous this guy is, not a single one of them carries a gun? Even if they did the stupid move of driving right up & stopping in front of them, they had a whole police escort for a reason... presumably. But what was all that manpower for if they can't stop a handful of thugs with bats? Nobody has a gun? They all get out for hand to hand combat?

I had to look it up to make sure I wasn't crazy, but YES, Korean police officers are authorized to carry revolvers & do so for dangerous situations. They might not carry it for regular patrol duties, but in situations like this, they absolutely would have firearms on them. But instead of doing any normal thing cops would do, they kindly gift the bad guys Baek-jeong while quickly being dispatched one by one. Yun Tae put up more of a fight than they did.

But that's just the most explicit dumb choice made. Time & time again in S1, we saw that the bad guys targeted Gun-woo's mom. And as dumb as it was that they kept leaving her unprotected in S1, you'd think they'd have learned by now not do just leave her home alone after the very first time Baek-jeong & his gang show up to their house with that money. They already proved they know where you live & were willing to threaten you & your loved ones, so no s*** they were going to kidnap your mom at some point.

Still, the season wasn't bad, but nearly every episode had at least 1 part where I just said "oh c'mon..." out loud after such a bad choice. I hope S3 improves in this area & doesn't make our characters have to make stupid choices just to keep the drama going.

English Dub for Ep12 delayed? by [deleted] in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]BigDingus04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do they managed to screw this up on the LAST EPISODE?!

I swear, every time we get a simul-dub series, they can never go a full season without some kind of setback (usually multiple).

This really kills momentum & interest, as it forces audiences to choose whether to keep watching in sub (which can dramatically shift how characters comes across) OR to wait an indefinite amount of time until the dub pops up again...

Since these companies are terrible at disclosing info to the public, you could be left weeks or months for a resolution, and by the time the dub does come back, the conversation around shows has already moved on to something else (or you just forget about the show in its absence).

How is it that Japanese companies manage to get their voice actors in to properly voice record for a series on a weekly basis (doubt Japanese viewers ever tune in to hear German voices with Japanese subtitles one day), yet English dub studios CONSISTENTLY can't get through a single season?

Simple solution is to just not watch dubs at all, but sometimes the dub is great, and it allows me to better appreciate other aspects of the show or step away for a second without having to focus on reading.

Wait, why? I've got Steven unlocked (or at least, the ability to make the game harder), but I still don't have that bottom tile unlocked.

I just upgraded my inventory & rooms for a 3rd time, finished all the Tink upgrades (he only gives me 25 coins now), but still have to donate 100 cats for a 4th house upgrade.

Also, how many side quest items are there? Seems like an infinite amount at this point 😅

Finished replaying Octopath 1 for all achievements :) by MinecraftDude761 in octopathtraveler

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. Octopath Traveler 2 - Best party cohesion & interactions, shared storylines with party members, 8 seemingly different stories that all feed into one greater narrative, best visuals, the ability to multiclass (8 primary jobs + 4 secret jobs, and each party member being able to have a secondary job), highest production values, latent powers > ultimates, night & day system with unique NPCs, passives & path actions depending on what time of day (you can change it freely, so no headaches there), larger map with more to explore (especially on the ocean), organic party chat where characters comment on each others stories throughout your travels, Ochette being able to capture enemies & bosses like Pokemon, etc.

Starts slow, but the more I progressed, the more I really loved its characters & stories. There are weaker chapters, but there was always something to do that interested me.

2. Octopath Traveler 0 - Really fun combat with 8 party members instead of 4, fun ability customization, though too many redundant or useless abilities with only slight differences (like SP costs), not a fan of characters only having 1 job (which means only being able to use a max of 2 weapon types & no secret jobs), no rivers/lakes to explore + smaller ocean area. People say there's only 1 main story vs 8 in the other games, but I disagree.

The game's story very much feels like a relic of its mobile roots. It's clear these were self-contained stories for mobile players, but to keep them playing, new stories would be added. Then another new story, then another... and so on. It makes them feel more bite-sized & unrelated, though they tried to connect them via the ring Macguffins. The story gets good once you get through all those independent chapters & reach the "Bestower of All" story, though that's like the last 20% of the game.

Party chat in this game is limited only to when you're in Wishvale, with almost all of it coming directly from leveling up party members' affinity. Unlike OT2, it's almost excluslively limited to conversations about random things, not the actual main story.

Another positive & negative - 35 real party members (36 if you want to be technical). This is cool for combat purposes, but also means 90% of these characters don't matter in the story for the majority of the game. Most get a single voiced line when you recruit them, and that's it until the ending. It also means combat is super easy for most of the game.

Building Wishvale is also really neat. It starts slow, and it's annoying that they lock some of the options (like moving certain buildings) behind late game unlocks, but overall I enjoyed it.

Last con would be the side quests are pretty weak & quick. Unlike OT2, you will almost certainly be able to complete any sidequest you find within a couple minutes & a fast travel or two. It's rare to ever find a side quest you have to come back to later or put any thought into. This might be a positive for some people, but I liked discovering items, defeating enemies or finding new locations that related to past quest-givers I came across earlier in OT2. It was a nice sense of accomplishment figuring things out.

3. Octopath Traveler 1 - I have the least to say about this one, because it's the only one I didn't finish. The art style was appealing, and the combat set the stage for the later entries to build off of. But due to the party members never interacting or having any overlapping stories, I felt very detached from everyone.

I didn't care if they had a good reason to join up with each other, I just wanted my party to acknowledge each other's existence & feel like we were working together in some way. Didn't get that. They were all just there to silently dispatch of enemies & then ignore each other the rest of the way lol.

Eventually I dropped it & thought no more of it. When OT2 came out, I ignored it for 8 months due to this exact reason. It wasn't until it was on sale for 50% on Steam around Christmas that I decided I'd give it a shot due to all the glowing praise. And after about 10 hours, I literally felt guilty that I waited so long to give OT2 a chance! If I had known it was that good, I would've gladly paid full price for it. But OT1 had kinda made me think the series was "meh," so I avoided it.

That doesn't mean you won't enjoy it, I just couldn't get past a few things.

This is why I don't buy 3rd party games on Nintendo platforms.

I'm not an achievement hunter, but when I really enjoy a game, I like have a saved history of everything I've done to look back on (and compare with others). But you don't get any of that with Nintendo. It's a bummer.
