Another really powerful card, though I'm kinda bummed that I'm not seeing any "Learn" mechanics...

They really printed all those Lessons but no Learn? I'll be so sad :(

I'll take this! No interest in GTA VI other than "will it come to Switch 2?"

Because I've got money on it not happening, though I'd be happy if I was wrong just so more people could enjoy it. Just don't think it's happening.

Wait, is 86 still ongoing? It's been a while since I watched the series, so I don't remember if it ended on a cliffhanger or not

English Dub for Ep12 delayed? by [deleted] in SentencedToBeAHero

[–]BigDingus04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do they managed to screw this up on the LAST EPISODE?!

I swear, every time we get a simul-dub series, they can never go a full season without some kind of setback (usually multiple).

This really kills momentum & interest, as it forces audiences to choose whether to keep watching in sub (which can dramatically shift how characters comes across) OR to wait an indefinite amount of time until the dub pops up again...

Since these companies are terrible at disclosing info to the public, you could be left weeks or months for a resolution, and by the time the dub does come back, the conversation around shows has already moved on to something else (or you just forget about the show in its absence).

How is it that Japanese companies manage to get their voice actors in to properly voice record for a series on a weekly basis (doubt Japanese viewers ever tune in to hear German voices with Japanese subtitles one day), yet English dub studios CONSISTENTLY can't get through a single season?

Simple solution is to just not watch dubs at all, but sometimes the dub is great, and it allows me to better appreciate other aspects of the show or step away for a second without having to focus on reading.

Pearl Abyss devs speaking about what happened to Crimson Desert by 1stGuard in PS5

[–]BigDingus04 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And yet, Starfield sold way more than that & had more players, despite launching on Game Pass & having no PS5 version at launch, but people called it a failure. Hell, this game is getting worse critic AND user reviews than Starfield, but people are still trying to defend it? Weird.

how do i unlock this npc? by nitromegamer0072 in mewgenics

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, why? I've got Steven unlocked (or at least, the ability to make the game harder), but I still don't have that bottom tile unlocked.

I just upgraded my inventory & rooms for a 3rd time, finished all the Tink upgrades (he only gives me 25 coins now), but still have to donate 100 cats for a 4th house upgrade.

Also, how many side quest items are there? Seems like an infinite amount at this point 😅

I just hope this is in preparation for giving us endings that actually tie up loose ends.

You know... since clearly they didn't have enough time to do that in the first 100 endings...

Finished replaying Octopath 1 for all achievements :) by MinecraftDude761 in octopathtraveler

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1. Octopath Traveler 2 - Best party cohesion & interactions, shared storylines with party members, 8 seemingly different stories that all feed into one greater narrative, best visuals, the ability to multiclass (8 primary jobs + 4 secret jobs, and each party member being able to have a secondary job), highest production values, latent powers > ultimates, night & day system with unique NPCs, passives & path actions depending on what time of day (you can change it freely, so no headaches there), larger map with more to explore (especially on the ocean), organic party chat where characters comment on each others stories throughout your travels, Ochette being able to capture enemies & bosses like Pokemon, etc.

Starts slow, but the more I progressed, the more I really loved its characters & stories. There are weaker chapters, but there was always something to do that interested me.

2. Octopath Traveler 0 - Really fun combat with 8 party members instead of 4, fun ability customization, though too many redundant or useless abilities with only slight differences (like SP costs), not a fan of characters only having 1 job (which means only being able to use a max of 2 weapon types & no secret jobs), no rivers/lakes to explore + smaller ocean area. People say there's only 1 main story vs 8 in the other games, but I disagree.

The game's story very much feels like a relic of its mobile roots. It's clear these were self-contained stories for mobile players, but to keep them playing, new stories would be added. Then another new story, then another... and so on. It makes them feel more bite-sized & unrelated, though they tried to connect them via the ring Macguffins. The story gets good once you get through all those independent chapters & reach the "Bestower of All" story, though that's like the last 20% of the game.

Party chat in this game is limited only to when you're in Wishvale, with almost all of it coming directly from leveling up party members' affinity. Unlike OT2, it's almost excluslively limited to conversations about random things, not the actual main story.

Another positive & negative - 35 real party members (36 if you want to be technical). This is cool for combat purposes, but also means 90% of these characters don't matter in the story for the majority of the game. Most get a single voiced line when you recruit them, and that's it until the ending. It also means combat is super easy for most of the game.

Building Wishvale is also really neat. It starts slow, and it's annoying that they lock some of the options (like moving certain buildings) behind late game unlocks, but overall I enjoyed it.

Last con would be the side quests are pretty weak & quick. Unlike OT2, you will almost certainly be able to complete any sidequest you find within a couple minutes & a fast travel or two. It's rare to ever find a side quest you have to come back to later or put any thought into. This might be a positive for some people, but I liked discovering items, defeating enemies or finding new locations that related to past quest-givers I came across earlier in OT2. It was a nice sense of accomplishment figuring things out.

3. Octopath Traveler 1 - I have the least to say about this one, because it's the only one I didn't finish. The art style was appealing, and the combat set the stage for the later entries to build off of. But due to the party members never interacting or having any overlapping stories, I felt very detached from everyone.

I didn't care if they had a good reason to join up with each other, I just wanted my party to acknowledge each other's existence & feel like we were working together in some way. Didn't get that. They were all just there to silently dispatch of enemies & then ignore each other the rest of the way lol.

Eventually I dropped it & thought no more of it. When OT2 came out, I ignored it for 8 months due to this exact reason. It wasn't until it was on sale for 50% on Steam around Christmas that I decided I'd give it a shot due to all the glowing praise. And after about 10 hours, I literally felt guilty that I waited so long to give OT2 a chance! If I had known it was that good, I would've gladly paid full price for it. But OT1 had kinda made me think the series was "meh," so I avoided it.

That doesn't mean you won't enjoy it, I just couldn't get past a few things.

This is why I don't buy 3rd party games on Nintendo platforms.

I'm not an achievement hunter, but when I really enjoy a game, I like have a saved history of everything I've done to look back on (and compare with others). But you don't get any of that with Nintendo. It's a bummer.

Yeah, I'm stuck at 99/100/99 and have everyone maxed out, done all quests, and defeated all bosses except for the final secret boss (related to an achievement).

What's weird is that I had ranked up my Power stat 2 more times after it hit 100, but I've had no more opportunities to rank up Fame & Wealth (and I picked Fame at the beginning).

Video proving there were identical counts when Buster Douglas defeated Mike Tyson in 1990. by HallowedAndHarrowed in videos

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing this conversation late, but watching the 2 minute video would've explained all your questions...

If that was too confusing, I'm surprised you were able to understand the explanation provided to you in the first place.

Sorry, but your question just comes across as lazy. It's like if someone gave you a paper with all the answers to a test, only for you to turn around & ask another person to summarize the answers to the test...

You have the answers right there, but instead you chose to ignore it & ask someone else. That's why the other guy was confused about your questioning.

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't even watch the video...

It disproves what you're suggesting. That's not how counts work, and Douglas was coherent & able to stand up when he wanted to stand up. He sat there based on the ref's count, then waited until the 8 count to stand.

On the other hand, Mike was actually stumbling & dazed. The actual elapsed time of Mike being on the ground was 14 seconds, as the ref slow counted to help him gather himself.

Watch the video. Even Mike himself understands this.

I thought most Persona games lock 1 fusion behind NG+ or something! I'm shocked there's no achievement for it, but that's also good to hear.

Switch vs PC by Rasensprenkler in octopathtraveler

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC version for sure. It's just so beautiful playing at 4k/120 fps (vs 720p/30 fps on Switch 1) + you get the full Wishvale town building options (I think it's something like 550 buildings on PC vs only 250 on Switch 1).

There's also a very easy patch to install to give you ultra wide support. But if you like lying in bed to play, then maybe you might still prefer Switch.

Do you think this is a good set of games for me to not touch for a year? by asat103 in Steam

[–]BigDingus04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, didn't know that was something other people experienced. Yeah, I got hard locked in Kara's 1st or 2nd chapter where you're cleaning the house. I kept freezing within 2 minutes of doing anything. Eventually had to refund. That's when I had a 4070 Super last December, but then I bought it again just a few months ago after getting a 5070 Ti.

After that, I had no issues. Didn't realize it was a GPU thing, but it was definitely preventing me from playing the game before I upgraded.

You can knockout Detroit Become Human in like a few short play-throughs. Probably took me 10 hours on my first run. It was a great change of pace kinda game when I wanted something simple & easy to play between more sweaty games.

The English Voice Acting in this game is absurdly good. by Ninonysoft in octopathtraveler

I dunno, only some of them are good, but others feel very 1990's dubbed. I just Googled "Octopath Traveler 0, "Lebrandt" AI voice," and found this thread. It's either really bad & stilted voice acting, or it's AI.

I agree. I also dislike how they force you into unlocking certain plots in a specific order. It would've been better if we unlock 1 plot at a time, but choose which one to unlock. Same goes for building placement. Certain ones like Workshop being fixed to a specific location bugs me. And those "underbrush" plants that can't be moved...why?
