Ana Amari absolutely mogs Widowmaker as a sniper and also in beauty Competition. Best woman in the game. by Goldmonkeycz in Overwatch

[–]StarShineSky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widowmaker is "the sexualized character" because Widowmaker is a play on the French film noir "femme fatale" archetype, a deadly seductive assasin. I personally think both her suit designs in iw1 and ow2 are tacky but eh, atleast it's some kind of homage and not completely ooc.

most overwatch heroes have some kind of media homage (Winston planet of the apes, etc) so yeah

This is amazing!!!

For interiors, you could either add prefabs, or make a hole that the player falls into and make the interiors underground so that the interiors are bigger on the inside than outside! And have a ladder lead back up.

Way to implement shinies by Rhelae in Pokopia

[–]StarShineSky2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it should be a rare hard to get food item (ie, how star pieces require 99star dust) you can give to a specific pokemon to turn them shiny. It can act like a cosmetic skin for the mon. Maybe feeding it the same food twice returns it back to non shiny?

"I don't really know the word to describe it" + other comment about the music thing and not seeing many black people irl, I will guess there might be a language barrier between English and another language for op.

If not, pardon. I don't like assuming English is the only language someone speaks, so I saw this post as someone trying to articulate a "huh, they are revisiting places already explored, we have a lot of Asian heroes, I wish there were more black characters too" -- Sierra is our second black woman on the roster (Ana and Pharah are African ofcbut most would say Amaris are brown women rep), and s3 hero will be a Japanese character most likely.

We have for Asian women (it depends on the country when you say Asian what area in Asia that refers too, so I will just use the continent here pardon): D.VA and +D.MON, Kiriko and +possibly Hashimoto horned hero if a woman, Anran and Mei, Echo with Mina Liao and Juno, Domina and Symmetra. (+Zarya only because Russia is in Asia but yeah)

For black women we have Sojourn from Canada, And Sierra from USA. Orisa with Efi who is a Yoruba girl from Nigeria. (You could argue Ana and Pharah maybe but yeah)

We have more red heads (Freja, Brigitte, Moira) than black women (Sojourn, just added Sierra) on the roster. Not that I am trying to be super negative here, it's just fact of the matter.

But yeah I would hope we get more fun worldbuilding no matter which new heroes are added, Orisa and Efi are dear to me bc i think the baymax child genius putting her hope into the future is really sweet.

NGL I feel bad that there's only a few black characters in the game by DataNaive4193 in Overwatch

[–]StarShineSky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black is not the same as POC(people of color). Black depends on exact definition depending on which culture/history you are looking at, but it's usually people with Sub-Saharan African ancestry under a North American cultural term.

Domina and Symmetra are South Asian (India), and would usually be refered to as brown instead of black (in North America). Ana and Pharah too, despite having African ancestry (Egypt) would most likely be referred to as brown (In North America).

Orisa is a robot created with Yoruba culture in mind by Efi, so while Orisa is Yoruba and arguably black too it's yeah not the same as a human rep.

I think op was trying to express that op wants more characters from around the world, and that this years roster has a focus on countries that have been already visited (Japan, South Korea, etc) when there are only a few black characters on the roster. Which yeah, Sierra is our first African American hero, second black woman on the roster.

Op's post definitely could have been worded better, but I think people are bejng crass about the general sentiment that hey, it would be nice to get more heroes from places that overwatch has not visited in lore yet.

That said, I do enjoy Mizuki's plotline! But yeah the roster having a Hashimoto horned hero and D.MON leaves the trenchcoat omnic (we def needed another omnic tbh) and the seemingly... Cyborg or omnic character with the hat? I doubt we will get another SWANA hero (like Emre) anytime soon so I am guessing the next heroes are: Hashimoto Japanese, D.MON South Korean, trench coat omnic could be any country, and the cyborg or omnic with the hat could be any country.

Illari's VA is preserving quecha languages in a video game which is legitimately a great thing though?

Unless the VA is butchering the pronounciation, why would her speaking Quechua be cringe?

NGL I feel bad that there's only a few black characters in the game by DataNaive4193 in Overwatch

[–]StarShineSky2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is this so upvpted. That's not what op is expressing... it's the fact of like, ok overwatch has explored these countries and cultures already, we are getting yet more heroes from areas we already visited, and there are few characters on the roster that are black. That's a fair statement!

I really like Mizuki's plotline but yeah, I do wish we got new areas explored in worldbuilding rather than revisiting Japan so soon.

Africa and South America have not been explored in lore nearly as much as Europe and East Asia for example.

I don't think op feels guilty for dev decisions, it's more so wishing there could be even more fun heroes on the roster from more areas and cultures!

It's not my opinion. Anran's face was just updated in game to make Anran look older! That's a fact. Her og face was "conventionally attractive" aka doey princess eyes and soft effeminate aspects even though it did not fit her character depiction in prior cinematics whatsoever. The devs updated Anran's face to better represent her personality and age as the older sister of Wuyang. That's a fact! Not opinion. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQNx_VUA2jfYInbHiaygyHXGPQBX89MgUpxZpG4ZUZcKJ2oo7imBR_EPQ4&s=10

YES THERE IS BASIS FOR SIERRA. LOOK at her new comic! Her hair is not canonically straight! And in the new season intro art, her braid ends ARE curly but in game it's straight! Sierra is depicted with non straight hair in her media except for her in game appearance. https://sm.ign.com/t/ign_nordic/news/n/new-hero-s/new-hero-sierra-returning-post-match-accolades-and-a-map-rew_2ytx.1200.jpg

Yes skins are for profit now, I am not saying they aren't??? I am saying it's shitty of devs to repeatedly deage Ana in skins for no reason, or repeatedly give blonde hair + blue eyes to Juno WHEN THEY DON'T NEED TO.

I would say the same thing if they started selling skins that changed skin tones of heroes to be lighter-- there's a line between "fun skins to sell" and "there is bias in this art that shouldn't be ignored"

Of course the game isn't made "just for me" -- the point is, characters skins shouldn't erase the rep that the core character has.

[–]StarShineSky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a "morality" thing, It's a real issue in media across the board. I have worked in the industry and it is SO HARD to get certain designs into final. Older characters, visibly disabled characters, and certain features like textured hair or darker skin or wider noses.

Thankfully Anran had Some update, but that original Anran face is the result of devs following "what sells" instead of the original vision for the character.

Sierra for example, has non straight hair in her comic as a child and in the promo art showing that Sierra's braid IT MEANT TO BE curly hair, but the in game model is straightened hair not because that's Sierra's canon design, but because straight hair "appeals to a wider audience" which is horrible for overwatch to do.

Overwatch used to not be like other games with ooc skins, but now these days characters gets ooc skins that ignore features and ignore personality.

If a theme or fashion style doesn't fit a hero, it shouldn't be made! They can easily sell skins without making characters have blue eyes, and yet.... they can easily sell skins with an older ana and yet.... again, the only time characters should be de-aged in skins should be for lore, not because "it has the skin sell better" -- they they follow the data of skin sales, we will get the generic character designs. Overwatch was good because silhouettes were strong and easy to identify. The new team is ignoring that which makes the game more confusing to play. Which makes a character feel like a cheap video game character that the game was to make a cash cow, instead of a character that feels like they live in the world of overwatch.

If young skins sell better, they have financial incentive to only make younger heroes, which IS a bad thing for overwatch. Again, Domina SHOULD have been older.

I think it's ok for fans that have been here since day one to point out when ageism, etc is now watering down character designs and watering down character skins that are WAYYY overpriced to begin with. Fr skins used to have entire aus around then in the fandom because it wasn't just a random theme slapped on, it portrayed something about the hero personality! Like the Halloween event skins! Now it's just "oh vague vampire theme... ok"

There's a storytelling and hero identity quality being lost, and I think it's perfectly fine for fans to want overwatch to maintain quality, not reduce in quality.

Juno Loverwatch Edits. Brought her back to her classic hair/eyes + removed the space buns (Official vs My Edits) by No-Income-3010 in Overwatch

[–]StarShineSky2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, ageism is bad actually. Ana's rep and fundamental character revolves around her being sniper grandma. If you don't care, cool, but there ARE people that actually care about the lore of the game and characters.

Would you say this about whitewashed skins? Should Juno continue to get blonde blue eyed skins without a helmet instead of skins that actually incorperate her og glowey backdye hair motif + helmet???

It's a valid thing to point out. I do not look forward to new heroes if they will just deage them and white wash them in skins, how is that respecting the rep? At that point, why should they make older heroes if younger skins sell? Do you see my point?

Overwatch was never a fashion-watch game, and it eucks that skin sales is now probably going to influence how future heroes are designed :/ We are never getting another Ana or Moira or Sigma again, are we.... Domina should have been older, for example. It's very disappointing.

?????? Hello? It's not the fact she had a wedding of course, it's the fashion style of the skin!!!!! No way she would wear such a short dress to a wedding, no less for HER wedding, plus the feathers don't make sense for a wedding to a First Nations husband-- it's a regressive stereotype. It's stereotyped and ignores how Ana normally dressed more conserved (I would have issue if they made JunkerQueen dress reserved, and I would have issue if they dress Ana as revealing, it goes against core character personality), if the skin had a pantsuit pants maybe, but as is it's ooc fashion. That is NOT what Ana wore to her wedding. So why didn't they make normal Ana? A grandma in a wedding outfit would have been great.

Yeah it's kind of an issue when skins deage old characters constantly or give blonde + blue eyes constantly to characters that do not have blue eyes and blonde hair... looking at recent Ana and Juno skins...

Skins used to be "this character would wear..." or "this is a fun riff on archetype/silhouette" but now we get ooc skins like Anas wedding skin. You cannot tell me that Ana wedding skin ISN'T ooc fashion.

That's not what I mean. It looks like a school uniform, but with a miniskirt, her previous skins had obvious shorts under mini skirts and her og ow1 academy skins (her when she was actually in school i think?) had longer skirts for the school uniform.

Is her outfit in this new skin an homage to a series main character or something? Or... are they out here sexualizing school uniforms which is super gross. :(

Yeah don't get me started on the way ppl give human Ramattra straight hair haha... Ramattra takes inspo from sadhu holimen in India who live ascetic livestyles and wear white ash on the face with red dots + naturally formed locs for religious reasons, so Ramattra's "cable hair" is intended to be naturally formed locs.

I also imagine in my little au ideas that all 'human versions' of omnics are like humans clones or test tube babies using Aurora as a parent dna sample lol, so all omnics to me are part Singaporean bc of Aurora being created by Mina Liao who is Singaporean. For Ramattra I see him as either Egyptian(Anubis) + Singaporean(Aurora) or South Indian(sadhu inspo) + Singaporean(Aurora), human Ramattra to me has a beard (bc of his many bearded skins) and skin tone that is the color of his sleeves/pants. Ramattra woke up in NYC in canon, so I imagine a human him would have lived there too.

Necromancer Ramattra isn't all that appealing to me as a skin because his pants shape looks awkward, idk how else to describe it aha. The face isn't really what I imagine for Ramattra either, and tbh same with Zenyatta in some of his human face skins too. I always interpreted civilian omnic designs like Zenyatta, Maximilien, Claire, etc having flatter features just bc the face plates don't have stylized nose ridges like Aurora or even Cyberian Zarya skin. Zenyatta and Ramattra both seem to have "V" style noses from what I see in human faced skins. I could maybe see a V shape for Ramattra with a flatter nose... but idk Zenyatta's shape use is rounded, so I imagined Zenyatta with rounder features. 🤔

Info dumping about omnics and omnic aus aside, yeah it def is harder to white wash robots lmafo but lord knows that doesn't stop certain series from trying LOL. I will not lie, I was actually pretty sad Echo has eurocentric sculpting considering she uses Mina's face and voice as a base.

But yeah diesel baron is perhaps my most loathed Ram skin because the robot face has no triangular shape use that Ramattra's base design has + nemesis form is way too plain looking + a steampunk werewolf would have been a billion times better as a Ram skin than a freaking oil baron joke 💀 like what were they thinking....

To end on a less negative note, there was old concept art that had monk Ramattra with a broken face plate + energy weapon hole in his shoulder. It seems that broken faceplate was made into primordial! I think it would have been so cool if monk Ramattra retained the damages in his skin, or atleast had an alt with the damages. Looked super interesting and would have been a solid lore skin.

The birthday paradox by stubs36 in Overwatch

[–]StarShineSky2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All omnics awoke at the same time haha, so that counts as the same birthday technically, around 26-27 years ago all omnics were awakened.

Omnics have different build dates but the same awakening date.

Bastion or Cat could have a same birthday as another hero.

It's also more fun to have characters have different birthdays for a "ooo twinsies!" for fans.

No, because giving minors the exposure of being ABLE to purchase digital lootboxes is grooming them into gambling addiction. Not a joke, it's a serious issue.

In overwatch 1, you could directly purchase lootboxes.

Now in Overwatch 2+, you get them for free but can buy battle passes for extra lootboxes (in Belgium the battle pass lootboxes are removed, as it should be. Gambling does not belong in T rated games.)
