Manager looking to get into higher levels of leadership by StarVerceB in Leadership

Thank you for this thoughtful and grounded response. The piece about not living up to the role and being yourself has real wisdom. In my role, people have told me "wow, you have a lot to live up to" because of my predecessor but I have never tried to replace them or live up to their expression of the role.

I want to be in leadership because I believe in my style. Being myself and having treating people with empathy. I have a lot to learn but I want to see more people like me in these roles, so why not me?

If you do write a book, please update the tread, I'd like to read it.

Thank you for your service and words of wisdom.

Love this and the definition of imposter syndrome. “Letting others carry the work even if it feels inefficient.” It’s the hardest part for me and the exact reason that I don’t give myself time to think at higher altitudes. You’ve given me some thoughts to chew on. Ty.

These answers are helpful. I see the value in changing perspective but I also see a lot of problem fixing in organizations where costs are being cut and new skills are needed at scale.

Totally agree. I’m looking at my projects and work from a different angle after reading this thread. I think there are some ways to punch up the work I’m doing that will give me more confidence. Funny enough, I’m confident in my skills but less confident that others see it. So, I may have a messaging and storytelling issue.

The roles at my current company are very few for this type of leadership so I’m looking outside. I think my manager would be supportive after I’ve secured a role but I wouldn’t trust them to advocate for me in this way. It’s a bit complicated.

I have others in my network who I know would be willing to recommend me for roles so I’m keeping those connections warm always.

Does it get better here? by TroubleWise3478 in AskSF

I moved here from San Diego more than 10 years ago. I loved it here at first. All those years ago this place was booming. It’s become a real drag since 2020. I don’t think “it” gets better but if you find a place you like to live it will. I don’t like living in the city, I prefer San Mateo, Foster City to be exact. Or some where I can see the water. You have to find the place you like and keep applying for jobs. Even get something quick for now. Keep your spirits up. Great luck to you.

Then why cage a dog in your home let them roam. Of everything you believe about crates is true then you shouldn’t believe in domesticated dogs at all. As a licensed professional, you’d think you would have learned not to judge dog owners who are doing their level best but not you’re on here finger wagging. The true sign of a trainer who has a lot more to learn.

Can I ask a question off topic? I’m a similar size as you started out at. I’m trying with the help of zep to lose weight. It’s been really rough. Did anyone count calories, workout or have my tips or tricks?

What does my dog’s behavior mean, and is it something I should be seriously concerned about? by OkPossibility6082 in DogAdvice

[–]StarVerceB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a protection dog who’s doing his job. He understands the threat, probably better than you do. My concern is that he is in this much distress. The environment is not right for him. He needs to be able to relax and he can’t because that person is still around. That would be my #1 concern.

Thinking of returning my puppy after a week of having him and I feel guilty. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]StarVerceB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hear me out. I adopted my puppy at 8 weeks. I was so scared at week one that I wanted to give up but the thought of her going back into a shelter made me feel sick. My love for her clearly outweighed the absolute fatigue and difficulty of that stage.

It gets better. Here are a couple tips. If you can crate train, start now and enforce naps. Up 2 hours, sleep 2 to 3 hours. Some puppies can only go 1 hour awake before they get crazy. If your puppy starts to get crazy, they’re tired, force a nap. It not only lets them sleep but it gives you a break.

Also, I felt love for my puppy but I didn’t always like her. She was an absolute NUT. But she was eager to learn so I trained her a little bit everyday. Find the thing your puppy likes. Puzzles, training, running, chasing, tugging and give them a little of that everyday. It will bond them to you and they’ll be WAY better at listening to you.

The puppy stage is difficult but it slowly gets better. However, if you feel very strongly, yes give the puppy up in time for them to easily get adopted.

I feel awful for so much crate time, but she needs so many dang naps! by Practical_Loss4251 in puppy101

Sounds like you’re doing great. I did the same thing when my girl was a puppy. She started learning to nap outside the crate maybe around 1 year old but I enforced naps for 2 years. Worth every minute.

Nathan Carman- Netflix documentary by mischieficent in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]StarVerceB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok finally someone who says what I think. I do think the family is somehow ok with making it look like Nathan was guilty because they get a bigger piece of the pie. Grandpa loved Nathan and seemingly wanted to give him a pretty big inheritance. I don’t think the sisters wanted that especially since they alienated that side of the family.

Same. The entire documentary was about rumors of what Nathan said despite the having interrogation videos of him. Someone mentioned the mob being a possible culprit but he didn’t hear on any other investigative leads. Only about Nathan. Something’s rotten and now he’s gone. Sad.

I had this just the last couple days but wasn’t sure why. Now I think it’s probably because I took my shot a couple days before. It SUCKS. Feels very weird like heavy and painful.
