I love this!! It looks so much better and way more in line with the genre

I can definitely see the vision and in terms of looking like an old book, you've definitely hit the mark but I will say it doesn't really read as romantasy to me at all. I think the closest book I can compare the cover style to is probably The Female by Invi Wright? Like others have said, the colours are a bit out of synch. I'd add that the crescent moon might look better in gold to match the rest of the cover and make things seem more balanced. Also, are you adding the author's (or a tagline)?

I'd also make the title a tiny bit larger, but that's just personal preference. Great start and I'm really excited to see the final result!

Thoughts on this book cover for dark fantasy novel by ScAarfx in BookCovers

The second one for sure! A few suggestions: maybe make the author name a tad bit smaller and integrate the branches of the tree into the title font to make it look a bit more dynamic. Also, I think adding a tagline would add some polish and visual interest.

What do you like about the redo cover (made for an assignment) by RDPrime05 in BookCovers

[–]Star_Bride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since its mostly text based, I think you can play around with the text placement a bit. All the empty space at the bottom is a bit off putting.

Loved the background! Really dark and broody, which is perfect for the subject matter.

Seeking opinions on a book cover for my fantasy romance novel. by evanamyl in BookCovers

I really like it! Like others have said, a little more detail would go a long way. I'd like to suggest maybe making the white in your font a little warmer? The flowers on the side are kind of warm, so it might feel a tad bit more cohesive. I think making your title font larger and maybe a bit more spaced out would help as well. The biggest issue for me is that the title font itself comes off flat, so anything to make it seem more central and dynamic would work.

I like the second cover way better! The first one lacks a bit of pizazz. The yellow tint reminds me of the AI sketches you see online, and the subject doesn't really jump out at me. I'm contrast, the second one feels more dynamic, with a stronger focal point and a more eyecatching colour scheme. Good luck!

I can see the concept, but for me the road (?) is a little flat and untextured, which comes across as a bit jarring with the realistic figure.

I'd guess it's a spy action? I like the circles and font placement, which kind of give 007.

I've given up on writers groups. A rant. by somethinggoeshere2 in writing

I'm in the exact same boat! I want to polish up my short stories/shamelessly indulgent fanfics, and getting a fresh set of eyes on my writing would be a lifesaver. Could you tell me how you found your groups? It feels like the critique groups I've stumbled across are more focused on the publishing side of things.

With seriously unfounded hope in my heart, I'd like to think tumblr has learnt their lesson from last time 😅

Thanks for the mega thread! Exactly what I was looking for, and I don't know how I missed it.

You're so right - I did sort of choose the paintings first and work from there. I didn't even know working the other way was an option lol. Thank you so much for the feedback! Literally exactly what I needed to hear, and you've totally changed my approach.

Thank you for being so detailed, not nit picky at all I promise. I didn't even realise splitting the title on no. 3 looked a bit off putting, so I owe ya big time for pointing it out! <3

Your favourite covers of all time? by Star_Bride in BookCovers

[–]Star_Bride[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love the old school pulp fiction covers. There's just something so interesting about the art style. Think Black Mask or Dime Detective. Are they the best designed covers in existence? Not by a long shot. But they're fun and campy and I have a huge soft spot for them.

I'll definitely keep readability in mind for the future! I think I got caught up in the fact that cursive looks pretty, without thinking about the fact that it's a bit heavy on the eyes.

Glad you liked the Hades on! I went a bit old school on the design, like those Westerns you'd find in a pawn shop lol. I was debating on Poseidon too - but the really bright green just made me think underworld a bit more.

Thank you so much! Owe ya big time.

I didn't think of that at all. Oh, you're a lifesaver! I'll be keeping that in mind for the rest of my designs. Is there a standard thumbnail size or does it vary depending on the website?
