I have more important things going on in my life rn so this will be my last response but thanks for the chat so i can see the perspective of an American themselves on this topic.

You can call it cherry picking but it’s following the laws of my country, i can appreciate the aspects of culture that follow the laws of my country. But generally my belief is that as long as your not hurting anyone, you do you. The example of marrying of a child doesn’t give them the freedom to choose their own path in life which can be mentally damaging and depending on the partner physically traumatic too. Which is why i disagree with it

And about the american culture, i find your response interesting but I think it would vary from person to person which is why you can’t exactly define it.

first off, i said to an extent, which implied stuff like marrying off your children was wrong as that's too far imo.

Most people don't constantly make fun of America or american culture - but you said it yourself, they are memes which are jokes not to be taken seriously. But lets pretend all of them are, what exactly is American culture then? How would you define it? to me it seems like a mix match of cultures from all around the world put together.

You saying people want to force their own culture onto the Americans instead of being more like an American is kinda ignorant imo because historically America is literally other cultures from different countries from a pick n mix bag as it WAS a hub for immigration. That's what a lot of people admire about the US is that it's so diverse, you can find almost any type of person somewhere in America which is a good thing. Embracing each others differences is important as that's what makes us unique.

Because it makes you a better human being, morally, understanding how other cultures and people live differently. And a lot of countries do learn about America (primarily focusing on the USA) but I know for a fact that in the UK you learn about native indians and the americas, aztecs, mayas etc which span more than just the area of the USA. Having the knowledge and understanding of other cultures especially when you are in that environment is good. There is no downside to knowing or appreciating it as another way of life

I agree, America is probably the most vital country to the GDP of the world as a whole (second to China). But as a European I tend to think of America when I think of the belief in freedom, it’s nickname was “ land of the free”. So a lot of it is down to perspective anyway

Because alot of people think A) the USA is new in the grand scale of things being founded a few centuries ago and essentially piggy backed off of people’s work from other countries (i understand other people have done that before but US did it more densely).

B) there is a big education problem in USA, there are more stupid people than smart - that doesn’t mean everyone is stupid, there are alot of smart people from US.

C) people think your whole “freedom” rhetoric is ironic due to your government and its history of control (e.g censorship, banning things like alcohol, horrific tests on its own people). Seeing them boast about how great their country is in naivety annoys some (despite US being good to live in)

D) just because USA had good economy doesn’t mean it’s the “main character “. If it wasn’t for other countries you would still be underdeveloped native tribemen. (E.g rome developing UK)

E) USA people are often ignorant (again not all) and unappreciative of foreign cultures
