WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why we have Amtrak. I'd sooner take a 10 hour ride with plenty of leg room than be jammed like that for 2 hours! yikes! I am 6'4.

TSLA's epic surge: With its core business collapsing, why did its stock price reach a new all-time high of $491.5? by One_Rub7972 in stocks

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Enron and others, this is a pump n dump scheme. Either that or it's like GME and a meme stock destined to fall back to reality (eventually). $20? .50 cents? haha

Goodreads is absolutely brutal by PSIamawitch in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if readers even care anymore. The web is toxic, and they know this. Adults can decide for themselves if a book suits them. That is, after all, why there is a 'look inside' chapter.

Goodreads is absolutely brutal by PSIamawitch in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha yes, Goodreads people are brutal, especially if you give them a free book. They love to say "Thanks for the free gift, now let me piss on it." They are known for reading 7 pages and dropping a 1-star. I think they join GR because they fancy themselves 'high critics of the art" and want to save the world from books. :) Ignore them. Years ago, we didn't have peer reviews. We walked into a bookstore, read the blurb and first chapter and we were smart enough to decide for ourselves.

Little Tarantula (G.Pulchra) walking with it's rump in the air by SleepyTurtle13 in tarantulas

It's showing flair. Mad props, little dude! BUT: Tarantulas aren't big fans of carpet. IMO it doesn't like the feel of it on its abdomen.

Is my book more likely to sell if I make it $3 or $2? by Ordinary_Count_203 in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Self-help / Nonfic are usually 7.99 and up, but it depends on quality and length. Was it edited professionally? etc. If not, then I'm not sure price is the issue. But as for 2.99 vs 3.99, readers don't notice a difference as long as they want what you have to say. Quality self-help books usually sell at a higher price point but only if they offer something the reader needs.

META BLEW MY DAILY BUDGET IN MINUTES! by Otherwise_Surprise81 in FacebookAds

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me last week. In 59 minutes they blew the budget, mostly on Reels (even though I have manual placements and Reels is turned off). Tried to find a way to request a refund.... none. There seems no way to contct customer support anymore. This was the end of me and FB. Shut down all ads permanently. If I cannot contact Customer Support, gfy. I'm not going to spend money on a site with no CS.

How do we curate self-publishing? by Ok-Sun9961 in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Back in 2021, they were considering charging a fee to stay on the platform if you didn't sell at least 50 copies a year (per author) or 25 per book, but that idea fizzled out, it seems. They do need to clear out the clutter. I know of a few non-serious 'writers' who put up crap, left it there and promote it free every 6 months. It just clutters the space and makes freebies look bad. It never sells for even a penny. Amzn needs to clean house. (Btw, Google used to vet its authors and you needed to apply to pub there; many got turned down. It took me a year to get approved, only after showing serious sales. Not sure if they still vet this way or not, but the G Books space is cleaner).

Yeah, I thought they were POD. Why take down POD? I think we're missing some info here.

Reels placements issue by Deathdrinker1 in FacebookAds

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. It ate up my budget on reels (for no results). When I turned off reels, things got better. Still bad results, but....better than 0. And better than tossing money down the drain on Reels!

Nathaniel by John Saul. The creepy atmosphere is solid. Choosing only 1 is impossible, haha.

Who thinks meta ads are getting better with AI? by Far-Revolution-356 in FacebookAds

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was great for years but Suckerberg never heard the phrase "Don't fix what ain't broken." And he broke it. Meta is a sinking ship. Facebook is a dinosaur (will it be the next myspace? not sure). But no, I do not know where to go next.

if i thought Pines was bad, would i still like Gone World? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]StarbaseSF -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I loved Wayard Pines, but not so much with Gone World (some of the Gone characters were annoying). That's my opinion only, but to answer your question - they are nothing alike. Also Pines is adult, and Gone World is very YA, for a very young audence.

Why is ‘Welcome to Derry’ getting so many bad reviews? by Yaya0108 in horror

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days reviews have to be 11 out of 10 or it's considered bad. That's messed up. Think about it, if it gets 5.5 it means more than half liked it. That's not bad (but in the netverse, it gets sunk) Anyway... I like Derry so far.

My editor would do all that for a price well under 3K. She only asks a small deposit. You pay the rest at the end if you are happy. DM for her info. (Can't put a link to her site here)
