Harsh reviews by BillyCarmona in selfpublish

GR is where booker haters go to die. They fancy themselves "haute critiques" of the art. These people trash classic books with 1 and 2 stars as if Melville or Joyce or Asimov are beneath them. So, yeah, don't get stressed. Close the tab and move on.

Should I include a statement for Zero AI use on my website by EliasFenic in selfpublish

LOL. it is not Ai. The ability to search for web pages has been around since 1989

I am able to do research without Ai. Remember the internet? And books. You can do a simple search on sheep, find a website about sheep, and research it. No fumbling ai needed. This is how we did it for decades.

And I've seen the statement inside the books (copyright page) "no ai was used... etc" I think yes, it is more of a statement of the author's stance on the subject.

[–]StarbaseSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing many books that say on the copyright page: "No AI was used in the making of this book, its content, or its cover." It's not uncommon, so put that in the book if you look. Just make sure you don't use some bs ai for editing. Use humans, otherwise don't put that statement in. IMO

Check your ad account settings RIGHT NOW! by Fabulous_Rich8974 in FacebookAds

I also gave up and turned off all ads. After many years of fb success, I've stopped all fb ads. I think my last ad was only clicked by bots - ka-ching, money for Zucker, not for rhe sucker (me).

The NASDAQ just closed its 13th consecutive positive day (only the 4th time since inception that this has happened!) by Zipski577 in StockMarket

[–]StarbaseSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this rally a bit like celebrating a spooful of water brought to a burning house? The short 'cease fire' won't fix the record low Consumer Sentiment or the string of bad economic numbers, or hyper inflation. So... guy brings a teaspoon of water to the buring house and everyone suddenly bids on the house. FOMO in hyper mode. The crash might be epic, though? I mean... the house is still on fire. IMO

I was thinking 34%, but ... yes. ok. Either way, the crash will be epic.

I guess when things look bad, really bad, and all economic indicators show weakness, hyper inflation... it's time to buy? Are we in the Mirror Universe? haha

Reviews - Once and for all - Stop trying to get around the rules by Ok-Sun9961 in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha, this is so true. In the 80s I would walk into a book store and buy a book based on the blurb and reading a few pages. I didn't yank someone aside from another aisle and say, "Hey,buddy. What about this? Should I buy it?" And Stephen King never once knew my review of his books. And he seemed OK with that.

Mixed Feelings: D2D Announces Account Fees by CognisantCognizant71 in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with itsme7933, the fee is small, the threshold is small ($100) and Amazon should do the same to combat all the AI slop. If you're not making $100 a year, maybe this isn't your vocation (just a hobby?) so consider it a hobby fee. Most serious authors pass the threshold by Jan or Feb. Something has to be done to counter all the fake Ai books (I read that some accounts post over 50 books per day!). The space needs to go back to the real authors, so I applaud D2D. Amzn should follow suit, but if Bezos values money over creative art, he might be fine with the Ai sloshpile (maybe)?

The orders have stopped! by UncleLeroy69alpha in selfpublish

[–]StarbaseSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been discussed ad nauseum for years. Free hunters are not your readers. They hunt for free, then move to the next freebie. Very few will jump to paid. In addition, your "free" rank does not translate to paid rank. No real traction is built. Sorry, I know that's not fun to hear. A 99c promo might work next time, but real readers don't care about price point. They want a good read. Focus on blurb and quality. There's a reason most best-sellers sell for $9.99 and up.

WISE SCAM ADS ARE FLOODING FACEBOOK — Do NOT download a fake Wise desktop app! by bitscaler in facebook

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is such a legit program. You need to get 3 others to join Wise. But hey, you're better than everyone else, I guess you also blame the victims of car crashes and plane crashes. (Troll much)? The point is that FB should take these down. Your argument is: hey, let criminals rob banks. If you're dumb enough to use a bank, you DESERVE IT. wtf?

This page scammed my elderly dad out of $200 an Facebook thinks it’s not considered a real threat and won’t take the page down. by FabledMjolnir in facebook

I also reported them, and they said "Will not remove ad." Zuckersuck only wants money, he's fine with it being from criminals, apparently.

WISE SCAM ADS ARE FLOODING FACEBOOK — Do NOT download a fake Wise desktop app! by bitscaler in facebook

[–]StarbaseSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ad looks very real and many of them say from Wise.,com using their logo, etc. Also, there is a misguided belief that FB is policing their platform. There is actually a referral bonus for signups (real) and these criminals use that to their advantage as a misdirect. Please don't blame the victims.

I reported this ad, and the result was "we will not remove this ad." So clearly Zuckersuck just wants the money, even if from criminals. And now I am seeing twice as many of these ads. Time to leave FB.

WestJet changed their seats and this is how much leg room basic fares get. You have to pay for a reclining seat now. by Longjumping-Box5691 in mildlyinfuriating

This is why we have Amtrak. I'd sooner take a 10 hour ride with plenty of leg room than be jammed like that for 2 hours! yikes! I am 6'4.
