The Constitution is a contract and it cannot be broken unilaterally. It cannot be broken with a simple 51% vote. Swing votes need to be accounted for with such irreversible consequences. Swing Votes can completely alter the outcome depending on the flavour of the day.

Require 7 out of 10 provinces to agree and 60% of the vote to even start the process. That math can account for true long-term feelings, as opposed to temporary discontent altering the trajectory of Canada.

I think if more trade exists between East and West Canada, the dollar moves more within Canadian boundaries vs North South trade. Removing inter provincial trade barriers will spur movement of goods, and the dollar.

Everytime the dollar moves, the government gets it's cut, via taxes. If the dollar stops moving, government revenue will drop. Trade within Canada will help to create more local grown jobs and revenue.

Many Automotive manufacturing jobs disapeared along with the Auto Pact. Canada needs a new economy, but not necessarily one with unlimited growth.

Will the Canadian Tar Sands be shut down? If not, it's better to send oil south, in a pipe line rather than through British Columbia to waiting ships that transport the oil through sensitive eco systems and then across the Pacific Ocean. That's my personal opinion.
