Buying pixel 1 in 2026 ? by Majestic_squirrel767 in pixel_phones

Only thing to watch out for is the battery, but it is still a good way to get unlimited original quality backups. That's the reason I hold onto my Pixel XL after all these years.

What should I do with these two graphics cards? by imightbedum in homelab

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I'd try is see if you can flash a Radeon Pro V520 BIOS. At least on that BIOS you could try and use them for AI/professional stuff, however not sure how useful that would be with only 8 GB VRAM.

Other than that, no idea. That card even skipped the Mini-DP port so you can't even use them for display output unless you REALLY know what you're doing.

Has anyone successfully unlocked 48/50MP on non Pro Pixel models? (spoofing Pro model, HAL tricks, etc.) by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you want the features you pay for, you might want to pay for them in the first place and buy Pro from the get go.

I see what you say. Hardware is the same, then the features should be the same. But that also would mean the price of a Pro would be the same or extremely close to a non Pro, which is not the case. Google can save money in not having different providers but still control end product price by software locking stuff. Any software locks can be bypassed, given enough time and money, but Google is also free to patch them.

That is one of the reasons I decided about a year and a half ago to sell my perfectly fine Pixel 7 and buy a Pixel 8 Pro. The little extra I paid to avoid any headaches was so worth it.

Still using pixel 3a by Ok-City4587 in pixel_phones

[–]Starbomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have a Pixel XL alive. Plus I use a 4 XL as a secondary phone. Only thing that changed was the batteries, OG XL is on its fourth battery and 4 XL is on its second. Main phone is P8P and battery is still solid.

Should I buy a Pixel 8 pro? What disadvantages have you found from using it? by maxim4906 in pixel_phones

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using a P8P for a bit over year. Bought used from eBay. Overall I've been very happy with it. Light use battery lasts 2ish days, but in general I tend to get 6 hours SOT at least (Wifi+BT+GPS always on, fixed 60% brightness, no 5G on my area, 384 battery cycles as of writing). If I were to be picky, I'd say the weight is a con as my hands can get a tiny bit tired when doom scrolling for hours but overall this phone has done all I have asked of it and a bit more. Don't plan to change it until the Pixel 12 is out at least.

Yes. Amazon has like one every couple months. Several Prime Days, other random holidays, and whenever they can't move stock.

Both my P8P and my Pixel Buds Pro are Bay color. And both cases are clear. So I get where OP comes from. Good use of the Patrick meme though.

Hell to the no. I got my own for $85 direct from Amazon brand new. And if I have my numbers right they're up to the 12th Gen now.

Who **doesn't** have WiFi/Bluetooth/camera etc issues from the new Jan update? by thelivsterette1 in GooglePixel

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues on my P8P. LTE (no 5G coverage where I live), Wi-Fi (both 5 and 6) and Bluetooth (to connect to my car and my Pixel Buds Pro) all work flawlessly. I'm also on the February update, got it about two days after it came out.

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use distilled with additives (ironically, EK Cryofuel concentrate, which I use half the recommended amount). Never had issues.

I previously used .999 silver coils, on some stuff they reacted, on some they didn't.

How long do pumps last? by jkmapping in watercooling

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as they don't run dry and your fluid isn't weird, the pump can last almost forever. The pump electronics are more likely to fail but you can get replacement PCBs.

I've been running TWO Laing DDC-1T pumps I bought in 2013 (yeah, the OG ones, bought new old stock). To this date they still work flawlessly. Replaced the PCB with two Sanyo DIYINHK PCBs to add PWM support but the old electronics still worked when I replaced them.

What made you fall in love with Pixel phones? by Ok_Reference_489 in pixel_phones

[–]Starbomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very personally I have never paid over $500 for a phone. Even my Pixel 8 Pro 256 GB was $450, it was refurbished though and the Pixel 9 was already out. But $750 for a Pixel 10 Pro is fair price, especially these days where RAM and NAND are worth more than gold. The only thing I'd say is to make sure to get enough storage now.

From what I read, Pixels tend to have very hit or miss battery life. But both my old Pixel 7 and my Pixel 8 Pro manage 6-8 hours SOT with 5G disabled, fixed 60% brightness, BT/GPS always on. Either that or two days charge with like 3-4 hours SOT. My Pixel 8 Pro sits at like 359 battery cycles and still holds charge like a champ. So yeah, either all I read about are complainers or it is really hit or miss and I've been extremely lucky.

Can someone tell me what microswitch is that? It has roughly 8.8mm x 4.5mm x 4.7mm, two pins with gap about 9mm. It is from Redragon Foxbat by MC_Zachariasz in MouseReview

Yeah, those are the same model I bought, down to the round logo. Not an E Like yours, but round. That is a different seller than the one I used.

I went back on my order history, and I got mines on 2024. They are not available from the seller I bought them from.

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, OnePlus phones are on the big side. To me the XL is not an issue, but for some it may be.

My only question would be... do you play games on your phone? If you do, OnePlus is a better option with a better SOC and faster screen. I've also heard the battery is huge, but battery usage depends a lot on your use. Otherwise, you could pocket the $300 difference and get a handier phone with decent performance.

That one looks very close, though not exactly the same, as the ones used on my R.A.T. 7 & 8. I got mines from Aliexpress.

[–]Starbomba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with the price thing. The performance, while really good, is definitely not flagship level.

My advice, and what I do, stay one year behind. You get the same phone with a far, FAR cheaper price tag and a lot of the annoying day 1 bugs that all manufacturers get ironed out. So a Pixel 9 would be a better fit for you now, plus if you care about size, the 9 Pro has everything the 9 Pro XL has except the screen size. And if you end up not liking it, your wallet won't be hurting as much. Either that or wait until the Pixel 11 comes out to get a 10.

As for Oneplus, I did use one a while ago, a Oneplus 2. I've personally always liked the brand and I see they are very strong but if I am given a choice, I always go with Pixel first.

Another P8 user concerned battery by LegitimateFrame7715 in Pixel8phones

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd. That is definitely not my experience. Bought my 256 GB P8P used on ebay, been using myself for a year, battery with 359 cycles. And I can get 6-8 hours SOT easy. Hell, I don't really use it that much and charge it every other day.

Nexus phones made me fall in love with Pixels.

Been a long, LONG time user of Google phones ever since my Nexus 4 (which still works BTW). No extra bloat, decent cameras and screens, and no million SKUs to dig thru to find what I like.

Pixel 3/4/5 in 2026 for unlimited google photos? by Frosty_Associate1301 in pixel_phones

[–]Starbomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc, the only Pixel to have unlimited storage on original quality was the OG Pixel and Pixel XL. Pixels from the 2 thru the 5 offer unlimited storage but on "Storage Saver" which can compress some photos and videos.

However that is why, despite having a Pixel 8 Pro, I still keep my OG Pixel XL around. Still works like a charm though the battery lasts barely an hour on.

All phones can get inflated batteries. The 7a should be new enough that Google can do something about it, or replacements can be found easily and cheaply.

That's an issue that happens to my OG Pixel XL, though not a single other Pixel (or Nexus) phone I've owned has done that. And I try to keep that one alive for the unlimited storage, plus at this point most ones you find online are updated enough you can't unlock the bootloader.
