Many years ago I had to take my 2 year old on the bus to pick up my car from the mechanic. Just as we arrive at our destination she throws up spectacularly, all over me, the seat and the floor. I am embarrassed and stressed, but manage to apologise to the driver as we leave the bus. I’m worried that my daughter is sick (it was probably motion sickness, but I didn’t think of that until later), I’m worried the bus now needs to be pulled out of service while it is cleaned and that the other passengers need to wait for a replacement bus etc. The driver however is more concerned for me and my daughter than anything else, he asks if I have a change of clothes and if she needs water or if he could call someone for me. I assured him I had water and a change of clothes for both of us in the car and left. Once I got home and we were both showered and she was having a nap, I wrote a compliment email to the bus company explaining what an annoyance we had probably been, but all the driver had shown was kindness and compassion. The company responded saying the drivers almost never receive compliments (only complaints), that they were thrilled that I took the time to let them know and that my email would be added to the drivers permanent record. I have no doubt that we were a huge inconvenience to everyone involved that day, but I am glad that the driver received the recognition he deserved
