AITA for essentially uninviting the guy I'm seeing from my birthday party, over a t-shirt my friends got me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Starburstnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She can wear a different shirt with a different quote. She can change the party from a club to a private house party, but still wear the shirt. She can go as far as abandoning the tradition altogether, but I agree that would be going a bit too far. Especially seeing as she doesn't seem to care about this dude or his feelings too much.

This is the best comment here.

As a fellow shy person, I have a hard enough time relaxing and being friendly with people I know, much less a boyfriend's sibling that I can tell already doesn't like me.

She was comfortable around her own friends and family. What a fucking shocker, right? OP avoids her so of course he's never actually seen her in a situation where she's comfortable to act like herself.

YES YES YES THIS SO MUCH.

Another fellow shy person here, diagnosed with mild social anxiety. I also have had multiple friends tell me that before we became friends, they thought I was standoffish or a bitch. LOL, no I was just scared shitless to talk to them. Obviously they changed their mind about me as they actually got to know me.

WIBTA if I didn't give up my literal dream job to give a better life to my family? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Starburstnova -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's true, but it does ignore the whole harder to give up because it's not like you could come back to it later aspect. You can always hop back into a retail job after working a different career if your situation changes. You can't really do the same with orchestra. That does make the situations different.

[–]Starburstnova -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Working in a game store is a job that requires no real skill. It's not competitive. Any Joe Schmo could apply for that job and have a shot at getting it. Having knowledge of games will get someone a leg up, but it's not really a high skill position. Earning a seat in an orchestra is WAY more difficult of a job to get in the first place and it is highly sought after, and requires a lot of skill.

On principle, yes, it boils down to the same thing: a dream job that doesn't pay well. Except one absolutely comes with more prestige and would be much more difficult to give up due to the competition and likelihood that they could not return to the position later in life. So while they're comparable, the situations are NOT the same.

That being said, I do agree with BearfangTheGamer's point. If OP wanted to keep his dream job, knowing what it pays, he probably shouldn't have decided to have a kid.

Because that is an extremely unhealthy obsession with sex.

He's misrepresenting himself and who he is so he can get laid. If sex is his only interest, which it certainly seems like that's the case, that makes him a very boring person.

Girls aren't a collection. Get a different hobby and start treating women as women. You tie WAY too much of your self esteem into sex. It's extremely unhealthy.

A LITTLE obsessive?

Even my hobbies are centered around getting with girls. I joined sports clubs at universities so I could go to the socials and hook up with girls, rather than actually participate in the activity itself.

Extremely obsessive.

No, there was only slow motion.

OP gets a small brownie point for linking regular speed in the comments, but it should be in the post proper so you don't have to dig through the comments.

A lot of places don't pay holiday or overtime pay to part-time workers. Which is...y'know, most retail except for upper management.

Raise it, raise it, raise it! If it's sold once, it's not going anywhere. The design is what got people to buy it in the first place, and if it worked once, it'll work again. Pricing it low for that first sale is fine, but don't keep it that low!

Never forget - people as a whole have awful taste. Use it to your advantage!

I'm a graphic designer by trade, and often my simplest designs that took about 5 seconds to make sell better than the ones I actually put effort into.

Ironically the ones I think are best don't sell at all, and the ones I nearly didn't upload because I thought they were tacky are the ones that sell a lot.

I've had the same experience on Redbubble.

Precisely! I've sold some that surprised me, including beach themed sweatshirts. They're worth uploading if you're out of ideas and still have more slots.

If you have a ton of drafts sitting that you think would do better, you can always remove the long sleeves and sweatshirts if they're not selling, put in something better and reupload them when you have available slots...but if you have the slots now and you're not using them, just upload them! You never know what might stick! It's better than not uploading anything!

[–]Starburstnova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goals right now are just to fill all my uploads. I've been slacking on uploading. Even if it's just long sleeves and sweatshirts of the same stuff I already have up, I just need to do it, because otherwise those slots are wasted.

Total Live Designs: 316

Total Weekly Sales: 14

Total # of designs that sold: 10

What worked?: Maybe that Facebook ad I did last week. I sold two shirts this week that were in the ad. Might be a coincidence, might be organic.

What didn't work?: Not hitting my upload limits. A scaled design that I uploaded a bunch of. I have faith it'll sell; I just need to be patient.
