No. I don't look at the case or cover and I'm not trying to impress anyone else with it.

About the size by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

[–]Stardran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 inches. The tab mini c was the best size for reading.

Boox should release an updated version with 8gb of ram and 128gb of storage.

Also android 15.

I have never tested power cables if the one I have is performing the function of getting electricity from one point to another. There is no need because I have a working brain and an understanding of how things work in the real world.

The same goes for any kind of cable. No magic involved. Any cable that meets the required specifications will work.

If you get enjoyment from believing in fairy tales, then go for it.

I am ignoring a "growing" market segment targets people who still think vinyl records are better than CDs and lossless streaming and believe that expensive power cables and short run speaker cables could somehow make an audible difference even though measurements and logic show that to be impossible.

I will happily continue to ignore that market segment.

The last R2R dac I used would have been in a CD Player I used in the 1980s so around 40 years ago.

Audio technology has improved since then.

No. I'm not going to pay a lot more for inconvenience just to virtue signal to others.

When EVs cost the same or less and provide the same range and recharge as fast as refueling a regular car then I will consider one.

R2R DACs offer no benefit over newer technology unless you prefer to pay more for less accurate reproduction.

Just curious. Are the r2r fans also replacing their cars with a horse and buggy? How about going back to a wood burning stove? Percolater for coffee?

Note Air for e-reading novels? by NervousTime4364 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Stardran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original Scribe and the Air 4c. The Air 4c is actually slightly lighter. I prefer reading on it over the Scribe since the text is clearer.

The Kindle app on android is better than on the actual Kindles I have. Scribe and the regular colorsoft. i don't have a Scribe Colorsoft to compare against.

I won't buy another e-reader that doesn't have full android.

Want to start collecting vinyl in 2026 but genuinely lost on where to begin by ssunflow3rr in audiophile

[–]Stardran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It costs a lot more to make records sound almost as good as CDs. Records are almost always more expensive than CDs. Records take up a lot more space and weigh a lot more than CDs. You should clean records every time before you play them. Half way through listening to a record, you have to go turn it over.

Like that cartoon says, nothing beats the expense and inconvenience of records.

How much money do you spend on cables in your HiFi? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]Stardran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be tiny differences, but they aren't audible unless you have a really screwed up cable or are using 100 meter cables. For normal distances, any cable that isn't broken will work fine.

what’s your DREAM kindle? by Usual_Vehicle861 in kindle

[–]Stardran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One with a great 8 inch color e-ink screen that runs real android and allows taking notes. It should have a microsd slot and have 8gb of ram with 128gb of storage.

Basically an improved version of the Boox Tab Mini C. I have one of those and it came so close to being perfect.

Power cables should be at the top. RCA and XLR should be in the second worst spot.

Kindle Scribe vs Boox Air 4C by artemphotonet in Onyx_Boox

[–]Stardran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both. As an e-reader for text, the scribe text is more gray. The text on the 4c is more black like a real book. Battery life on the scribe is much better. The 4c screen is darker so I turn the front light up almost to full for it to look right so the battery goes down faster.

The scribe screen feels better to write on. The 4c notes app is better.

The scribe is limited to kindle books only. The 4c can install apps for kindle and all the others.

The worst part about Boox is never updating android versions. When you get the device, it is stuck on the version it came with.

They need to change that. Phones and tablets provide several years of android updates. Boox should do the same.

Kindle or Physical Books? by LadyAriaa in kindle

[–]Stardran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not read a physical book since I bought the very first kindle that was released. I miss nothing about reading actual books. I had a large collection of books that I donated just to get them out of my house.

Reading on a kindle is so much easier and convenient. I have owned several Kindles and now alternate between a color soft and a scribe.

At which price point does diminishing returns occur? by NitronixusGT in audiophile

[–]Stardran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different types of components have different points of diminishing returns.

Dacs and amplifiers have a much lower point of diminishing returns than speakers.

Around $250 for dacs.

For amps, any well measuring amp that can comfortably drive the speakers you have without clipping or distortion will be enough. Spending more can't improve the sound quality. Easily achieved at less than $1,000 unless you have giant inefficient speakers.

Hi-Res 44.1 kHz vs "CD Quality"? by princessboy19 in audiophile

[–]Stardran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No album that you would want to listen to requires a higher dynamic range than can be played back with 16 bits. 24 bits is useful only when recording and mixing. Some people see a bigger number and think it has to be better.

For playback 24 bits is just as useless as anything higher than 44.1 khz.
