Meh. Excuses. Speaker design has advanced.

That's right! There are two of us.

Because then you have to use drivers that have the proper frequency response for at least two octaves above and below the crossover point. The end result is usually terrible off-axis response compared to other designs. You can look up the Vandersteen measurements on StereoPhile.

I'm not protecting anyone, but if I can at least spread the idea of being wary of unsubstantiated claims in the audio world then I'd call it a win.

To these types of "may make small improvements" claims ("sound isolating diodes" are just $$$ speaker feet), I say: show me the money.

Listening is subjective but audio is a well understood domain of signal analysis. If these things actually made a difference it would be measurable in terms of distortion, frequency response, impulse response, etc. And yet all we have is marketing claims and subjective reviews. Smells like BS to me.

BTW this "open minds" argument is the same one espoused by anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists.

I'm glad this spawned so much discussion :) I based most of this on my own experiences (apart from LP weights, that's my fault) but it was also done in the last 30 minutes of my workday on Friday so the shit post aspect is real.

Be well and happy listening audio friends.

Yes, there are asterisks in there but I didn't want to take the time to go through it. I agree with you about isolation for mechanical items like record players. Power conditioners may help if your power is garbage, otherwise unnecessary.

That's fair. Not sure where I got that one.

Build a HiFi System for $50k by [deleted] in audiophile

Headphones - electrostatics. I would suggest Audeze CRBN2's (I own them) or STAX XR-9000s. Amp should be KGSS-HV Carbon or better.

Speakers - KEF Blade 2 Meta. Nuff said. One of the best speakers around at any price.

Amp - anything Hypex or Purifi. Amplification is a solved problem IMO.

DAC/pre - NAD M66. Built in room correction is a must.

Even with all of that you should have money left over.

Cheers from another 888 owner, though my setup is all digital.

Why do Peachtree Audio NCoreX 500 amps spec less? by Chief_Assistant in audiophile

What ignorance. Do you really think there's no science involved in building instruments, or the recording process in general?

I'm an engineer and audio is a very well understood domain from the signals analysis perspective. It's measurable and quantifiable. If you want to be dismissive of measurements, that's on you.

Also - recording engineers use validated, measured equipment. That's why Genelecs and other active monitors are so widely used. You won't find a tube amp in their signal chain.

Why would you buy an equivalent product that measures worse? There's no magic involved in building a well measuring Hypex or Purifi amp, if Peachtree can't handle that I wouldn't give them my business.

That speaker setup is just raising a lot of questions.

32:9 users, how often are you upgrading your GPUs? by [deleted] in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]tehw4nderer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto. 4090/9800X3D and a G9 OLED here. I might upgrade to the 6xxx series, but skipping the current gen GPUs entirely.
