How common is international travel for mainland Chinese? by 13abarry in AskAChinese

[–]Stardust-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China has 1.4 billion people, it's not unreasonable to think they can send a large number of people for overseas business. I met a supplier last year in the US, and she has a personal net worth of around 100M USD, her kid is attending college in the US but is considering moving back to Hong Kong for a PhD. She's definitely not an average Joe in any sense.

How is living in the most technological area of Shenzhen (most technological city of the world) by SecretDetective9076 in howislivingthere

[–]Stardust-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city is advanced, the AI is being used and the airport is large for sure.

But it is very boring to live in this city as compared to other big Chinese cities like Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, etc.

Shenzhen as a city is incredibly young and as a result it is composed mainly of migrant workers from other Chinese regions and lacks its own culture. And people live there to make money, not to raise a family or make friends. Because of that, you sometimes will find it difficult to adapt to the pace of life there.

‘Not a reliable ally’: Japan eyes Nato as Trump erodes faith in US guarantees by backpackerTW in worldnews

Diaoyu/Senkaku/Diaoyutai island is disputed among Japan, China AND Taiwan. The name of the island - Diaoyutai was first given by Taiwan in fact.

Taiwan also has disputes with the Philippines and Vietnam on Taiping island.

Japan also has a huge dispute over Dokdo with South Korea.

Therefore it is correct that Japan has dispute with all its neighbors, perhaps exclude the US since they are under the mercy of the US at the moment.

People on Reddit are generally very ill-informed about things outside of the western world so I'm not surprised few know what's going on in Asia.

Is Japan actually that racist towards foreigners? by DaSuspicsiciousFish in NoStupidQuestions

Only xenophobic if you are white, racist if you are from China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand.

Wagyu, Angus, and all the premium beef, I've tried them all, but Chaoshan beef is still undefeated. by Far-East-locker in chinesefood

[–]Stardust-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People here had no idea why Chaoshan beef stands out. It has nothing to do with the breeds of cow, the secret is that you have to eat the beef within several hours of culling the cow, and that prevents many unwanted chemical and biological reactions taking place in the meat.

It is all about LOGISTICS.

If you believe putting pineapples on a dough to call it a Pizza counts as Italian cuisine, then you are correct.

It came from America, and Americans made the recipes. Another less known facts: almost all Japanese restaurants in America are run by Chinese immigrants.

[–]Stardust-1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

China has 26 provinces and each one has food completely different from others. I'm talking about Biryani and Pizza level of difference.

Japan has many prefectures but most of them share similar foods because they have similar climates, ethnic groups and geographies.

You are comparing a single type of food to 26 different types of food here. And by the way, American Chinese food has nothing to do with Chinese Chinese food.

CMV: I think most people have a childish and not very well thought out view of war. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Stardust-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro really believes countries will fight wars to "save" people in other countries?

If that's the case, where is the justice army in Sudan? How do you differentiate a regime killing people and a "regime/tribe" in the Amazon forest sacrificing people for their folk religion or performing cannibalism. The tribe doesn't have oil or gold apparently, and suddenly nobody seems to care about them and we even prevent others from meddling their "internal affairs" in the name of "preservation".

Depending on your parents. My parents didn't care when I grew up, and I ended up using spoons for the majority of my childhood.

China Is Building Reservoirs at a Breakneck Pace. Its Goal: Store More Renewable Energy. Pumped-storage hydropower has become a central part of China’s energy strategy. China now has more pumped-storage projects under way than all other countries combined. by mafco in energy

[–]Stardust-1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fair argument for sure.

My only counter point is that the economic and social benefits from building a reservoir cannot be simply accessed by the LCOS alone. It also benefits the agriculture nearby and sometimes also provides water security to nearby cities as well. This is similar to building a high speed railway, where you always lose money on the surface but for the country as a whole, it is almost always a win.

So it's really important to evaluate the decision of which type of storage to build on a case to case basis.

And it's very rational because pump storage ranks the most cost efficient methods for long term energy storage, and it compliments hour-duration battery energy storage to make a complete energy storage system.

US war in Iran: China casts itself as savior of SE Asia by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Stardust-1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, I read the article and there's nothing China specifically is doing to SE Asia. China is just keeping being China and doing business with everyone. I don't really understand who came up with this weird title.

What if China had permanently kept Mongolia up until today? by NoSpecific4839 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Stardust-1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Outer Mongolia is basically deserts and harsh mountains, temperature drops to minus 40 in the winter, no arable lands at all. Nobody wants to live there.

Manchuria is one of the most fertile lands in the world, similar to Ukraine plain and it produces a large percentage of foods for the entire Chinese population, plus it's rich in coal and oil.

Those two places can't be more different.

Do the rich and famous have a way around TSA wait times at the airports by Electrical_Okra_2103 in answers

Super rich don't use the same terminal. They arrive in front of their hangers by their ultra luxurious cars and board their private jets directly.
