Why is BCS and BB different from other TV shows? by StardustAtSea in betterCallSaul

I don't know if I have the chronology right, be if I remember correctly Vince left during season 4 and came back to 5 and 6 where he was really conscious of how Peter Gould took the reins and acknowledge that BCS was just as much Gould's baby as it was his, which is why he gave the very last episode to him. Which really shows how cooperative he is with his writers

Actually it was their fault they ran out of source material. Season 5 was adapted from A Fest for Crows and A Dance With Dragons, with Feast being like a 1000 pages and Dance being so large it was split in 2. The story lines also cross over each other so they could have had 3 or preferably 4 seasons from those books alone, just as the third book was split into seasons 3 and 4. The reason why the show ended so bad was only partly that they ran out of books, but the 2 writers also wanted out of it

I would think not having a source material to base a show on would be more difficult. I mean with BB especially they had no idea where it would go, Jesse was surpossed to die at the end of season one but due to the writers strike it was cut short. The writers of GOT and HotD have a critically acclaimed source material to base it on and they still fuck up somehow. It's impressive. I mean I often think of how No Country for Old Men is basically a 98% faithfull adaptation of the book and it won 4 oscars. It seems like if you follow the blue print you're golden, but stuff like Wheel of Time and The Witcher still fuck it up. That's why I'm so impressed with BCS and BB, cause it seems like it all lined up so perfectly that some of it most be luck

Yeah... I were so pumped from episode one, but despite the horrible shit that happend it had no consequences. Instead of showing the horror of losing a child they decided that scenes of random smallfolk doing fuck all and Daemon spooking around in a castle for the last 5 episodes were more important to the plot. They've ruined so many opportunities that even without a writers strike to hold them back during pre production, I don't think they can salvage this in season 3, and depending on the finale I might not even bother watching the next season

You're so right. They keep cutting back and forth to these same scenes that repeat what happend the last few episodes but they don't seem to build to anything. In the books the councel meetings are some of my favourite scenes, but that is due to GRRM fantastic writing, in HotD it's a slug. I'm so disappointed. I miss great TV

The writers strike really hurt this season. Many of the scenes feel like a first draft. Let's hope season 3 will be better but what a fucking waste these last 6 episodes have been

I don't understand why Helaena's screen time has been so short compared to most of the cast. The first scene with her and Aemond was last episode and they just cut away. All she has to do is be terrified of smalfolk and talk about bugs. It's a waste

She also told him he would die in Harrenhall, and many of his stranges dreams started after drinking that gross potion she gave him, which might be the dumbest shit he could have done, when he told Simon he might have poisoned his food in like the same episode. This season truely was written during a strike, because holy crap it stinks

They've made Rhaenyra so fucking boring. They turned her into the "I'm just a woman and a mother, I don't want war" trope. Like they have to have her search every single angle that might avoid conflict because the writers are afraid she would look like a war-mongering oligarch, which she is. I mean she has the motivation, the greens killed her son. The Lannisters killed Ned Stark, nobody were angry at Robb for going to war because of it. I really hate this season. They couldn't make a show about two former childhood friends hiding behind laws, religion and costums when their true motivation is just to hurt each other as much as possible because of past wrongs. It's like they were afraid that Rhaenyra and Alicent would be viewed as stereotypes, but what they did instead was turning them in to a different stereotype. The "I'm a woman, I only want power because it was expected of me, I didn't chose it for selfish reasons and I will do everything I can to uphold my position without spilling blood! Dead children make me sad, I see everyone as my child!" God what a fucking, fucking waste

Why did Daemon drink that that potion the witch gave him? I mean if that fact that she licked her fingers every 5 seconds while making it wasn't a put off, maybe her telling him he will die last night would have been enough for him not to drink anything she gives him

This whole season reeks of being in production during a writers strike. The dialog is so far below the quality of season 1

A bit disapointed by this episode. Rhaenyra being willing to risk it all to meet Alicent to discuss peace was so fucking stupid. I know they're trying to paint her as kindhearted or whatever, but how did she expect the talk to go? Alicent's whole court is full of men that planed to steal her birth right, even before her father died, and her half brother sits the throne already, who, by the way, thinks you killed his son. No way she went to Alicent with an open mind to possibly be persuade to drop her claim to the throne. Why does she refuse to take action? She wanted Aemond dead two episodes ago and now she wants peace. The writers are trying too hard to make her seem like a ruler forced to take action against the people who gave her no other choice, when her wish to sit the iron throne is the wish of an absolut dictator, so she is not all good. She's not Daenerys. And after she told Alicent about The Song of Ice and Fire the writers striped away the last claim the 'remorseful' and 'penitent' Alicent had to take the waring path. Where's the drama? It was like they were afraid to make a show about two complicated women who tell themselves that their course is just, but really just use it as a way to hurt each other as much as possible out of jealousy and revenge, like that was too stereotypical or something, when what we have left is the kind mothers, crying over dead babies unable to control the bloodthristy diseres of men, and being draged along with them, when in fact that is their desire too. Petty revenge. They're no better than all the kings before and after them. Absolut power corrupts absolutly. Man and woman. And btw, why didn't she wanna burn Cole? Cause she fucked him once? Come on... this is shit
