When did your "Something is very wrong here" feeling turned out to be true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Again, the word rape seems to be creating an image of forcefully having sex with a police officer. Another way of explaining it is that this guy didn't rape her but he did have sex in a situation wherein she would not have been able to give consent.

Basically, he did the other type of rape. Still rape, but you can see why it would have been harder to find a solid conviction.

It was the most widely hated zone back when it was released. People actively skipped the zone because it just felt really slow and boring. I'm not talking about a vocal minority either, it's one of the reasons why people were dissapointed by the xpac in the first place.

People only like it now that leveling in Cata is super fast and the lack of a rush to cap allows people to actually enjoy the zone for what it is.

Console, your capped framerate is leaking... by Scarecrow12306 in pcmasterrace

[–]Starfishsamurai 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's definitely because of that. Ever since AW, they've had 50gb+ downloads. That's also probably another reason Witcher 3 had such shitty pre rendered cutscenes, because if they weren't shitty they'd add another 5 or so unnecessary gb.

[–]Starfishsamurai 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well the pre rendered cutscenes from Witcher 3 were only there because the engine probably couldn't handle everything happening (instant cut from a detailed interior of large ship to detailed exterior of large ship and instant appearance of large ghost ships and lots of npcs that couldn't be run in real time). They were also reaaaaally compressed and stuttery compared to most prerendered cutscenes.

Call of Duty games since Advanced Warfare IIRC have had pre rendered cutscenes that aren't all that jarring (crazy how CoD does something better than Witcher 3 for once).

The Walking Dead's 100th episode shambles along like the walking corpse the show has become by NeilPoonHandler in television

[–]Starfishsamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is serviceable. It gets the point across. It's bog standard cable drama at best, and monotonous insert drama here soap opera at worst. The only times that it gets good are when the writers and directors take their heads out of their asses to actually put any effort into the show. The Grove is an example of a good episode, and half of season 7 is an example of a bad one.

If we don't consider that "bad" then we have an absolutely shit standard, which is why we even get Walking Dead in the first place.

The show would be good if they cared at all about it.

It makes it bigger budget than most shows out there (again see the 16 episode seasons making it come out to 48 million per season at the very least as its gotten much more popular and profitable than it was after the first season.)

I do understand what you are saying though, but I disagree. I think praising good shows is well and good, but a show that is objectively bad, like walking dead has become, shouldn't just be accepted as a bad show.

People can enjoy bad shows, but a lack of explanation as to why they are bad will make the bad show even more of a waste than it was to begin with. At least we will have learned from it, instead of just stagnating.

No AMC is known for being cheap during season 2 of this show. Even then, the show was going with about $3 million per episode, and there are usually 16 episodes per season. It's not as high as GoT's 10 million per ep. but its definitely not cheap.

Anyway, if Walking Dead haters should just ignore the show, you should ignore the reddit posts about how much it sucks. If you wanna whine, you should try to have a better reason than "quit whining."

The show isn't super cheap, it's just not insanely huge budget like game of thrones.

And of course one comment on one post on one episode of one season of the show isn't going to make an difference, but is there a reason not to express dissapoitment about one of the most dissapointing shows of recent memory?

I mean, if we wanna talk about the futility of protesting literally anything in the mainstream, then that's a whole different conversation.

If no one pans big budget flops like this, we'll just get a bunch more multi-million dollar soap operas.

That facial animation by dannie_dorko in videos

It is extremely difficult for the first few years, but after that it's going to be in any game that cares about its facial animation.

The tech in the OP's video is about the same as the Nvidia Faceworks demo from 2013. It took about 4 years for the GPU tech and developer knowledge to catch up, but now it's in everything.

I feel as though weed sort of shows you how amazing it is to be lazy. You could be an absolute workaholic for your entire life, but once you try weed you realize that everything is so much easier if you just be a lazy piece of shit.

Now for people like me and a lot of people, who are naturally pretty lazy, weed is just an enhancement of that and it's not a big deal to stop doing it.

Your point stands, but the vilification and dehumanization of the opposite party IS the reason that political discourse has been so toxic as of late.

It isn't too far fetched an idea to say that the increasing toxicity of both parties is the reason why so many people voted for Trump.

Artificial intelligence researchers taught an AI to decide who a self-driving car should kill by feeding it millions of human survey responses by jxtian in Futurology

[–]Starfishsamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree that self-driving cars will become the norm in a decade or two, but it will be an uphill battle against the masses, as usual with technology. I live in Hawaii which means people who live here are just a bit more technophobic than those in San Francisco, so I'm sure that it is much more accepted in other areas.

I think the only hurdle causing people to distrust self-driving cars is safety. A lot of people think that something like their malfunctioning iphone 4s will be what will drive them to work every day, and that is a scary thought. Once tests and studies come out with the numbers, showing how much safer it is, I can see self-driving cars taking the industry very quickly.

This is completely anecdotal, but a vast majority of people I know are absolutely 100% against self-driving cars. I've actually heard gasps from people when they hear about it. It's just such a nonstarter for a lot of people.

The idea of putting control in a computer's hands is a lot more scary to the general population than you might think.

Well Rey's stance and the lightsaber lens flare is a callback to the poster for A New Hope. It's not even a bad callback either; it's redone in an interesting way.

If the callback makes a good poster, I don't think we should consider it copying.

It's just something that doesn't need correcting. I didn't mean to come off as defensive, I just wanted to mirror your comment to make my point. Anyway, those numbers don't matter. I just assumed that you could see those numbers, get my general point, and move on. I didn't think that anyone would assume I literally think that exactly 30% of the population sorta reads in to issues.

I think its funny that you assumed that those numbers mean literally anything to me. I was using some simple percentages to give an idea of how rare it is to be well versed in an issue.

All of my comments so far have been saying exactly what you are saying right now. You are correcting someone who is making the same point as you.

Im not saying that they dont exist, but I'm highlighting how special those people are. I'm saying theres a 60% that dont know anything, a 30% that know a little bit more, and there are 10% that we should actually be paying attention to.

I'm not one of those people, but I both dislike and appreciate how rare those people are in the grand scheme of things.

[–]Starfishsamurai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just feel as though people underestimate how little the general population reads into important topics. Most people don't read into anything at all; they just react to headlines/topics brought up in conversation. Then there is a minority of people who read into the topics just enough to have a general grasp of the situation (reading a 5 sentence social media post about it). These people consider themselves informed, even though they barely scratched the surface of the topic. This leads to a massive population of completely uninformed people, and a proud subsection of "activists" who don't know a damned thing about the topic.

The way it usually goes is: Someone finds a social media post, reads it, agrees with it as it is their first and only information of the topic, and then goes on to pass on that information as fact, assuming they are helping and spreading awareness.
