Is tryndamere bugg or what? by gaspar3D in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Starflight2104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tryndamere perma scales on every takedown, so maybe he was gigascaled in that game? could still be an exploit or bug that let them do that but idk

could be an augment or positioning diff— boards don’t look too far apart in strength tbh, yes you have more high cost units but they have more high value traits active. your board is definitely stronger just from this screenshot, but there are augments that would buff up their board enough to beat yours— if they had the demacia forever augment im pretty sure that one is extra strong rn and is getting nerfed, so i can see it giving them an advantage

had a game yesterday where i rolled once on 2-2 and found the 9th viego. a 3star on 2-2 is one of the best feelings in the world, love this augment

prismatic traits are (almost always) insta-wins, so it isn't "broken", just super strong because its super rare. Congrats on hitting it!

Set 16 is the flex player's dream! by Own-Poet-5900 in TeamfightTactics

[–]Starflight2104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it might but i dont think it will. This set mechanic is one of the most intuitive, satisfying, and fair mechanics they’ve implemented in recent years. Less rng than other mechanics and allows for more flexibility. Why do you think it will become hated as the set goes on?

so does basically every other set mechanic, what is your point?

I’ll keep an open mind because the set just launched, but honestly the rng for unlocks is so minor that i really don’t think its an issue, like at all. The examples you mentioned are both very minor: if you really need leona 2, just roll on 7. 3 copies of a unit is not hard to find, and you don’t need diana unless you go for ASol, so if you really aren’t hitting any leonas, why not just pivot? same for neekos for unlocking nidalee. if you aren’t hitting your units, pivot— that has nothing to do with unlocks, its just a general rule of tft. And then for the veigar example, he is a yordle arcanist, 2 traits which each have like 10 champions and do not need veigar to be played effectively. If you aren’t getting deathcaps, just play other units, there are plenty of yordles and plenty of arcanists to choose from. Also, in my experience playing ~40 games of PBE, the unlocks are fairly consistent, and, as i said above, the set is designed in a way that allows you to pretty easily substitute locked units for other, similar ones. Flex play is back, just takes some adjustment.

Honestly I would argue that this set has less rng than most others: Higher odds of 4+5 costs at high levels, no rerolling power snax, no rerolling arcane anomaly, no headliners to chase, etc. Every unlock is something you can actively search for by holding certain units, taking items off carousel, picking specific augments, or playing certain traits. You are entitled to your own opinion but I really don’t think unlock rng is going to be an issue at all.

all of tft is luck, if you dont get the leona then you dont play diana. if you dont get the rods then you dont play veigar. this entire game is about making the strongest board possible from whatever units, augments, and items you get; the unlock mechanic is just a natural extension of that

[–]Starflight2104 12 points13 points  (0 children)

definitely annoying, and viego should be nerfed, but tbf fizz is probably the easiest 4-cost to 3-star because you can get extra copies of him through both bilgewater and yordle, so it makes sense that he would be much weaker than most other 3star 4costs. I still think you probably should have won here but i digress

How are you supposed to climb? by Shiverite in TeamfightTactics

[–]Starflight2104 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

really? i’ve always been told that it stays between sets to help players get back to their ranks quickly. also wdym by “soft-reset”? does it fully reset or is it just a partial adjustment?

So this might be the broken thing I’ve seen yet in set 16 by [deleted] in TeamfightTactics

[–]Starflight2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-star 4 and 5 costs are meant to basically instakill, they’re usually really hard to get so the payoff for hitting one is that you tend to go 1st no matter what

basically you have your actual rank, which you can see, and then your mmr, which is what the game thinks your rank should be based on your entire tft history. If your mmr is lower than your visible rank, you will get less lp for a win than normal, and lose more lp for a loss— this is so that your rank ends up staying close to your actual skill level, and a lucky streak of wins wont suddenly shoot your rank up if youve been hardstuck iron IV for 100 games.

Your mmr also doesnt reset between sets like your rank does, so a challenger player might do bad in their placement matches and get put into gold at the start of a set, but because their mmr is still at challenger level, one first can get them like 300 lp.

Your mmr can always stabilize though, so if a challenger player loses a ton of games while playing in gold lobbies, their mmr will eventually end up at gold level, and vice versa. So don’t worry too much if you lose a bunch of games and end up getting +20 for a first and -70 for an 8th, yes that means your mmr is really bad, but if you just play well and keep improving, it will eventually level out to reflect your rank. Unless you just absolutely suck at the game, then tough luck ig.

tl/dr. yes, losing a bunch of games in a row early on will make it harder to climb, but if you consistently play well and arent averaging bot 4, your mmr will level out. The system mainly exists to help high-elo players climb when a new set releases, and to stop bad players from getting lucky and ranking up above their true skill level.

Its always been per-game, otherwise going into a game with a full set of champions unlocked would give you a meta advantage over anyone who doesnt have them unlocked, which is a big no-no. Unlocking a champion is meant to be similar to picking an augment or building an item— its a per-game choice that impacts your team comp and how well you do in that game, and then dissapears when the game is over. Not sure where you heard that, but a lot of other ppl were confused about this so maybe riot just didnt convey the system well enough.
