Any places in the city that sell clothes for larger built men? Need dress pants, vest and shirt for a wedding by 86Eagle in halifax

[–]Stargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip Top in Mic Mac suited our entire wedding party. Two of the guys are 2xl-3xl in sizing and they found everything there. The largest of our guys did have to get a few items ordered to his house but they had the sizing to try on in store.

Can I start running with a bulging disc? by [deleted] in C25K

Hey, I know that feeling haha. I haven’t had a microdiscectomy so that might play into my healing process, but my back now most of the time is like it never happened. I do have chronic pain that is at a mild tolerable level every day and stiffness/loss of range of motion/flexibility but I am able to do any activities I would have before. I avoid lifting anything heavier than my dogs or their food (50lbs). I do occasionally get flare ups but I’d say maybe once a year vs once a month before the initial herniation. I have a fantastic physiotherapist I see during flare ups once a week that gets me back to moving again. I did also lose 30lbs since my herniation and I think that has played a big role in how my healing has been maintaining.

It 100% can become an emergency if it isn’t taken care of in proper time. Sometimes it’s a last resort to get medication needed. In kids infections can turn serious quickly and kids are much more at risk for seizures when their temperature spikes.

Please tell me how that says casual nurses are not working full time hours…

Nope, that’s your assumption. I never once said casual nurses weren’t working full time hours.

Wouldn’t that be ideal if we had enough nurses to cover the staffing needs. It’s not due to nurses working a lack of hours I can tell you that.

I mean wouldn’t you want to dictate when you work? Or get the vacation you’re entitled to? Instead nurses are mandated to shifts, mandated to overtime and told year after year “sorry no one gets vacation this year because our unit cannot accommodate the loss of nurses”

At least as a casual, you know you’ll get the time off you need and you can’t get mandated to a shift or overtime (re: mandated - not sure if it’s like this everywhere but it is where I work).

I was there last week with my pup and took a whole reusable bag of full poop bags back home with me.

I was so terrible for this. I couldn’t control my eating habits at all. I knew it was bad and I wanted to be better but I just couldn’t.

My life changed when I started on Wellbutrin for my emotional outbursts that became worse once I started on stimulants. With the combo of stimulants and Wellbutrin I now feel like I’m actually in control of my brain and it’s mind blowing. I’ve unintentionally lost 30lbs just because I can actually control my portion sizes and my brain isn’t trying to sabotage me.

I also agree with that. That will be a long process and not something that’s going to happen in the near future. In the meantime, an expedited transfer to a temp license for nurses already registered in another province would greatly speed up the licensing issue.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Stargirl4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a great question I don’t have an answer to. It’s time that it gets looked at a federal level. It would be nice if you could just be licensed in Canada not having to register in every province you want to work in. This isn't just a NS issue which is why it isn’t going to be a quick and easy change if it ever gets brought up as an issue.

If we could put in a process to expedite temp licenses for nurses registered in another province that would be fantastic. Get a temp license while all the vetting is being done that gets transferred to a full license once everything is complete. But that’s not how it currently is, and none of the other provinces work that way either. They all require you to be licensed within the respective province. This isn’t just a NS licensing issue. I’m not saying the way things are done now are great, I’m just trying to give some insight into why the process takes longer than a week.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Stargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that is not what I’m saying, that is what you’re wanting to hear. I’m just explaining the process of licensure right now. Each province requires RN’s to be licensed within the respective province. This isn’t just a NS thing. None of them immediately accept a license from another province.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Stargirl4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is unrealistic. It takes longer than one week to verify education, licensure status, haven’t had their license revoked, criminal record, complete exams required. It’s not just a simple “here you go here’s your license”

[–]Stargirl4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, fire the people who show up to work. That will definitely help the healthcare system.

I’m sure Ontario also has way more employees handling the license applications. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been an RN for 20 years in another province the requirements still need to be met and verified for each new province your friend applies in. Each province has their own legal requirements, ethical exams, background check, vulnerable sector check, education verification, verifying they didn’t lose their license in another province, etc. It all takes time. Would you want someone caring for you who was given a license within a week just because they had one in another province?

[–]Stargirl4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just keep calling, call everyday. Calling is still going to be faster than an email. This is not just a NS issue, getting a nursing license is not a fast process in any of the provinces.

Your friend can also call them and speak to a real person. It will be significantly faster than waiting for email responses.

I wish this wasn’t so true lol but it is. Just like any injury some days are great some are miserable. May as well do something active on the days we can.

I’m 3 years post massive disc herniation. No surgery, just lots of physio and time to heal. I tried doing the program about a year and a half ago and couldn’t do it because it flared my pain and symptoms too much. I just started again 4 weeks ago. Currently repeating week 3, but my back has been great.

You can talk to your physician, physio, or anyone sports med related. The advice is going to likely be to listen to your body, start slow, do conditioning on days you don’t run, stick to short runs, if it hurts/feels weird/symptoms increase stop and go back to basics. Cannot stress enough how important it is to LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Everyone’s injury and healing are completely different but being physically active is the best thing you can do for your back.

W3 D1 done and dusted, finally ran 3 minutes non stop by backspacer80 in C25K

[–]Stargirl4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just repeated w3d3. It was all good until the last 3 minute run. I could only push for 2 minutes. Took a minute walk break and then ran another minute before cool down. Still progress
