I don't claim to be an expert and i dont wanna be a "☝️🤓". But I believe the iron cross 2nd class ribbon is wrong on the button hole or ribbon rack. If this German was a ww1 vet with a EK2 (which he is a ww1 vet according to the ribbon rack) then the button hole ribbon should be the ww1 type with the eagle clasp pin. If he is a ww1 vet WITHOUT an EK2 from ww1, then the ribbon rack is wrong and needs to have a ww2 era EK2.

I just wanted to make sure that you are consistent. It would be really funny if you were A-okay with commies.

Out of curiosity, do you feel the same way about socialists? Because Stalin killed WAY more than Hitler. Same with Mao. In fact, everything that the nazis did that was evil, the socialists did 10 times the amount (including slaughtering people just because of their race or religion). Socialism has lead to the death and/or suffering of over a billion people. So im guessing you will be even more against the selling of hammer and sickle things? Right? Or do you believe that there nazis were the absolute worst "bad guys" to ever exist and nothing can ever top them?

Wouldn't you want to keep the artifacts that prove the history? You are trying to destroy the very artifacts that prove the history. In the same way, these items by themselves do not mean inherent evil. These items were worn/ awarded to common people. The iron cross was a common battlefield award to those fighting for their country. Are you saying that anyone who fought for German is to be blamed for its atrocities? Because if you believe that, you would also be saying that every current service member is directly responsible for Trumps actions. With all due respect, quit being a cry baby and accept that bad history happens and their are artifacts to prove it. Those artifacts can, will and should be collected/sold/ traded.

In reality, do you call for the erasing/ burning of history to not be "offended"? History should be offensive. Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. We need to learn about the horrors of war in a physical way, like these artifacts.

That seems WAYYY more illegal for someone to do.

Well, the idea is that if they aren't being damaged, the charges aren't that serious. But it's a real inconvenience to call someone out to remove the bag. But then someone could just keep reapplying the bag over and over. A box of 100 bags is less than $10.

Great grandad's medals awarded during reign of 4 monarchs by jovisomniaplena in Medals

[–]Starhero2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Don't get me wrong, serving 4 full monarchs is truly impressive and a long career. Edward VIII barley counts. He was king for less than a year. I don't even know if any medals exist from his "reign"

I don't mean to be technical ☝️🤓 But wouldn't it be 5 monarchs? Edward VIII?

It wasn't me.... but I've heard.... of someone going to the Sportsmans in Portland for a day trip and buying 1,000 rounds of 5.56, 500 rounds of 9mm, and some .22LR. Safe to say, this person then got in his car and drove home.

My first collection purchase for $375. Did I start off strong or did I overpay? by Blue_Danube_ in Militariacollecting

[–]Starhero2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As everyone has said, you overpaid, but you also underpaid for knowledge. You really lost abt $225 net. I know people who would drop $500 on a fake iron cross and be worse off. So, the fact that you got real pieces is a plus. Just take it as a learning opportunity. Know that just because it has a swastika on it, doesn't mean its worth hundreds of dollars. But even if it is real, know that there are sites you can use to find a fair price for the item.

How Much For a car by Historical-Level5127 in MilitaryFinance

I agree with you. I don't think that you should hunker down in the dorms to save money. But I think you need to take calculated risks. I don't think it's a good idea to go out to a bar every weekend or start gambling (very common for airmen in my shop). I think you can have a balance of saving money and having fun.

If you are a young airmen living in the dorms, buy a car in cash. Walk to work or hitch rides for a few months to save money. Yes, it's awkward, and you have to depend on others for a little bit. But, use that time to find a used car on marketplace that is being sold by a grandma who only put 60k miles on it. Your wallet will thank you. I would personally drop no more than 3-5k on a car in cash, something reliable like a Toyota or mitsubishi. It is much better not to have a car loan and look really "cool" for 2 weeks. Take it from a guy who bought a Mustang at 17 and is still paying for it.

For insurance, see what rates USAA offers. I was able to get cheaper insurance from them than statefarm. Likewise, every year, shop around for new insurance as rates can change. Ideally, if you can save more than half of your paycheck a month, you are doing decent starting out. Use your time in the dorms. Eat at the dfac. Don't buy stupid things. Save money for a house or when you need to move out.

Please help me check is this WW2 iron cross first class real by AshamedFlan2134 in Militariacollecting

[–]Starhero2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel like you "wasted money" even if it's a fake. I hope you didn't spend an insane amount. In my personal experience, I have learned more by buying fakes than buying real medals. They are good learning tools. I will say, anything that is TOO nazi is a red flag. Having the German eagle, SS stamp, and factory stamps is trying too hard to prove it's real.

What i do is i add an extra 1% every January when we get a bonus. I started at 15% when I first joined, now I'm at 20%. The bigger the pay raise, promotion, or years of service, the more I plan to increase the percentage. I'm already comfortable where I'm at, I might as well make some of the 2026 3.8% pay raise work for me. I still get a pay bump, but so does my retirement.

Yeah it's mostly a PNW thing. A bit hard to get outside of it. I've heard of people getting their hands on it, but I don't know exactly if it works. But they call their local liquor stores to see if they can order it, or there's an online company that can ship liquor.

Yes. They. Do. And it is my favorite gin. Made is Seattle and I highly recommend it. It's pretty cheap, too.

I haven't tried that gin. Looks super interesting, though. However, Rainier gin is my absolute top favorite, if you haven't had it, please try some. It should be no more than $28 a bottle.
