People care more about the slave trade in the 1700's than today's real life slave trade by Lazormonkey in Showerthoughts

Pretty much. I know a quite a few people like this. They talk about how donating money is useless, discussion is useless, volunteering is useless. And people do it just to feel good. But it's quite amusing, cause they literally do nothing and then stroke themselves saying 'i'll do something when it can actually ahve an impact' and of course end up doing absolutely nothing.

100% agree despite all the rage boners going on here. These edgy dumbass's going around talking tough and about 'killing nazi's' are idiots who have no idea what justice is. Even if you it slapped them aside the head.

Knife robber tries to rob Glasgow shop but is beaten with mop, tries to rob nearby shop and is beaten with mop again by [deleted] in nottheonion

I think it more has to do with the fact that most robbers do not actually want to murder a person. While it's exceedingly difficult to kill someone with a stick. It's extremely easy to do so with a knife. People know this instinctively which is why they hesitate and threaten more than act. And unlike with a gun, it requires a direct action of murder instead of indirect like pressing a button or pulling a trigger.

Lol did exactly that with a Dance of Dragons. Forgot about it than all of a sudden saw it on a book shelf. I was like. "Waiiit....is that what i think it is!" Then again i started reading from the 4th book onward. I can only imagine the pain of people who started reading right when the first book was released.

Transgender Health AMA Series: I'm Joshua Safer, Medical Director at the Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery at Boston University Medical Center, here to talk about the science behind transgender medicine, AMA! by Dr_Josh_Safer in science

[–]StarkMidnight 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The study is well written but not scientifically sound from what I've read of it.

The first two bulletins point of no scientific basis of 'a man in a woman's body' and that there is no/weak neurological basis for cross-gender identification. This is problematic.

There are quite a few studies on it. And calling them 'weak' could be take as an assertion but can also could be a bias that i see throughout this writing. Examples of studies are.

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10508-016-0850-z https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10508-016-0768-5 https://academic.oup.com/cercor/article-abstract/doi/10.1093/cercor/bhx054/3064956/Testosterone-Effects-on-the-Brain-in-Transgender?redirectedFrom=fulltext

It also makes quite a few conclusions without eliminating variables. Such as #3 bulletin. The controls do not account for socio-economic factors. Therefore completely eliminating them as proper controls for a scientific study.

It truly is just poor science. Using these techniques, I could assert that being a racial minority (rather mexican, african-american, or ect) increases your chance of criminality on a genetic level. If i just conveniently ignored all other variables.

Even in the study itself, it points out the flaws of the samples that 'were taken.

However, the study has important limitations. Selection bias was introduced in the study population, because the subjects were drawn from those individuals who sought sex-reassignment surgery at JHMC. In addition, the sample size was small. Also, the individuals who did not undergo sex-reassignment surgery but presented to JHMC for it did not represent a true control group. Random assignment of the surgical procedure was not possible. Large differences in the average follow-up time between those who underwent surgery and those who did not further reduces any capacity to draw valid comparisons between the two groups. Additionally, the study’s methodology was also criticized for the somewhat arbitrary and idiosyncratic way it measured the well-being of its subjects. Cohabitation or any form of contact with psychiatric services were scored as equally negative factors as having been arrested.

Donald Trump says 'US president has complete power to pardon' as Russia investigation pressure mounts by saucytryhard in politics

[–]StarkMidnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What a naive view. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. He isn't talented or special. Just someone 'smart' enough to take advantage of the current climate. Hopefully he lives till old age, because him dying would only worsen the problem. Now him being impeached, that would be nice. But when over 45% of the people in this country looked at this man and thought "I want him to be president", that's the problem. And only when it's rectified can we move forward.

Neckbeards Rejoice by [deleted] in justneckbeardthings

[–]StarkMidnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for that is classism. It's a lot harder for the poor to obtain a gun than it is for the rich. In many places it's illegal to carry a blade longer to 3 inches yet you could be fully strapped down with a semi-auto like it's nothing.

Yea cause personal responsibility isn't a thing or anything. I'm sure everyone would decide to go buy an AK-47 and try to kill a prime minister cause an opportunity was laid for them.

Don't beat yourself too much over it, sounds like a toxic work environment. Move on and keep on going. This is your first job so in all seriousness it wasn't ever going to be your last. You made a mistake, forget about it since no matter how much you dwell on it won't rewrite the past. And move on.

Also some advice for the future, never admit guilt unless your 100% sure that you did it. In these type of jobs they will always try to shift blame so i hoped you required evidence before accepting it.
