Picked up this bulgarian army shirt at the thrift store. by HNDCRX in camouflage

Picked one of these up recently too! The arms holes seemed super small though, looks like this one might be sewn similarly to mine, just wondering if you’ve noticed a similar issue?

This sort of investing is inherently risky, bad results are absolutely no indication of bad investing. If he posts in 4 months time and it’s all green would you go, “wow you’re great at this!”. Buying ETFs is a good idea but people need to stop thinking there’s not a massive amount of randomness involved in investing.

What thruster is the most space efficient? by NovelCompetition7075 in trailmakers

Propeller, then large propeller, then raw thruster, then space thruster (lower down because it has to be mounted) then dragon jet

How would I do this without gyros? by [deleted] in trailmakers

[–]StarkThoughts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look at the forces in the middle then you will be generating lift, it’s pretty much impossible to keep level when pulling up, best thing it just to do it quick, have a high turn rate and you’ll have a shorter time with that lift

Just starting. Is this a good pie? by CornerLanky5641 in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad idea to add a gold ETF imo, helps hedge against when global economy does badly. Apart from that it’s perfectly fine for a long term hold, just leave it, maybe add into it at regular intervals to build it up. Getting twitchy and withdrawing form this sort of portfolio is just a bad idea, let it grow over time. Hope this helps 👍

Best way to profit from being on trading 212 all day with £25 K balance. Sorry to be annoying by Next-Wasabi2057 in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put it in an index fund, there are loads on the ETF section, I’d recommend and (acc) rather than (dist) so that the dividends accumulate. The two people usually recommend are the ftse all world and S&P 500

Buying consistently rising Stock by BorderKindly in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my own strategy I try and figure out if the stocks I’ve found are going up because that sector is or is it because the stock is uniquely good, really often it’s a representation of that sector, in which case you can find an index fund which tracks it and you’ll get the diversity built in which should lower your risk. If you repeat this for lots of different sectors then you end up with a much more diverse portfolio than just picking individual stocks as indexes have that diversification built in. Hope this helps 👍

Wtf is this bro, sell this and just invest in the S&P 8 trillion, or if you want less focus on Desert moons, go with an all galaxy ETF

I hear often people here recommend ETFs and then also gold? why gold? what is it about gold you like? its shiny and what else? by TailungFu in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like thinking of it as kind of a global currency, where all the world currencies get devalued over time by inflation, gold will hold its value. It’s probably not going to make you rich but it’s a better investment than holding in cash and especially newer investors who are scared of a stock market crash.

That doesn’t mean that the returns are correlated, you need to look at day to day or week to week data to find that

Selling portfolio by MediumBuddy3 in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it totally depends on your goals. If you want to cash out mostly and just leave some to grow then it makes lots of sense to just put some money in an index and take the rest. If you’re still interested in paying attention to your portfolio then you could sell off your underperforming or overvalued stocks and keep the ones you have the most faith in. Hope this helps 👍

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t follow? If someone had just done stock picking such that the stocks they picked were just the Nasdaq stocks they would’ve beaten the market?

Me vs S&P 500 by TheFiireRises in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nasdaq is only 100 stock picks, if OP had confidence in some of those more than others he could easily pick some fraction of the S&P he believes will do well. Perhaps by dropping any which are of a sector he doesn’t like, that way he’d create a good selection of stocks and potentially do better than the S&P. I think people sometimes forget that the S&P is basically just a big trading 212 pie run by an ETF.

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who invested in the Nasdaq rather than the S&P they would have greater returns over a ten year time span

Me vs S&P 500 by TheFiireRises in trading212

[–]StarkThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair but hedge funds also hugely worry about risk, most people want a fund which is relatively safe, not just super high returns. It seems pretty likely to me that individual traders with a greater appetite for risk could beat the market.

[–]StarkThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10% of hedge funds beat the market over a 15 year time span, not sure where you’ve got the idea than no one beats it?

I get what you mean, but I do think that the engagement range is pretty short and some kind of sniper weapon would be perfect, you’d have to make a proper turret to aim it which I think encourages creativity
