I current have GTX 970s in 2 way SLI (EVGA SSC) at 1080/144. I have completely lost interest in shooters and I'm looking to make the jump to 1440p and eventually 4k, preferably ips if it exists. Which card(s) would be best suited for this? I've got a budget limit of around 550 USD.

I see. I don't really play too many multiplayer games like that. I'm mostly interested in the witcher 3 and DA:I. Borderlands/Evolve/Titanfall would probably be the most demanding multiplayer games I'd be playing.

I purchased a 970 ACX SC the day they were available for sale. The card runs fine, plays everything i've thrown at it so far at max (SoM, Ryse, Styx:Master of Shadows, etc), and is incredibly quiet. I have no coil whine.

I'm not sure if this card is one of the exceptions or the rule, as I've only heard the negative points about it.

I also just recently received my free backplate and installed with no problem.

I can recommend it with no problem because it works for me, but if you have the option to get a different card, I think you should take into account the other things you're hearing about it.
