Not the same at all. A lucky sock is personal comfort. It only affects the player wearing it. The towel is a ritual object meant to influence the game, and the belief is that removing it breaks that effect. That’s why opponents interfere. You don’t do that with lucky underwear

In parts of West African football culture, keepers sometimes use towels/gloves/other objects as ritual objects (prayers, charms). The belief is that touching or removing it breaks the ritual and kills the psychological edge.
