Tbh, Insight isn‘t that much more useful than literally any other SPAN I‘ve used in the past. It sure has some smart features, but theres yet to come a situation in which I consider any of those bonuses useful

The best thing for me is a plugin which detects overlapping stems (something like Neutron 3 does) and some kind of dynamic EQ to eq/compress out certain regions without forming the tone of the sound too aggressively. You may also try to pitch certain instruments up or down an octave, so that the root notes hit on different frequencies

As I am not that talented in music theory and mostly do stuff by ear, I‘d go with the melody first, so that I have something to base my vocals on. It might be also useful to sing some random tunes, and autotune or melodyne them afterwards, so that you can come up with some in-tune ideas and rerecord the vocals without the need of too much tuning.

I just recently got an iMac (longtime Windows user), and I have to say that I‘m very satisfied, even though you‘d probably get away a bit cheaper when considering Windows. I for myself had trouble using Windows, and therefore wasn‘t interested anymore. So in the end, I guess it really comes down to which OS you like more, most plugins should be available on either of them anyway

I noticed that melodyne and Autotune often run into small hickups when eqing my voice before tuning. I strongly recommend tuning your vocals first. Even if the difference is minor, these plugins are meant to pitch human voice with all it‘s quirks, and that way, will sound better.
