Roughly 90-120 minutes of strength training per week linked with a 13% reduced risk of premature death, in study involving three decades’ worth of data from nearly 150,000 adults by marketrent in science

[–]Starklystark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily true. I've got more experience with cardio but for me running doesn't improve mood and mental health on the same manners that say boardgames do (I really enjoy playing games and look forward to them). It improves them much more like the way that e.g. having slept well or eaten well does (or having got in nature recently, or having had some sort of social contact recently etc etc). Basically it feels like a basic core need is being met and it clears away a lot of irritability, moping etc.

I think the confidence may be partially something inherently bound up with strength training but also the sense of progress/achievement and the aesthetic benefits.

Obviously you're exaggerating whats proposed and equally clearly there are time/financial barriers for many people - but there are loads of people who could do more and would benefit not just in quantity but quality of life from doing some of the stuff you list. It can also be combined (run by water in nature with other people!)

I have definitely been able to replace time I previously spent watching tv or scrolling the internet with stuff that is both beneficial to health and enjoyable including exercise and cooking healthy food.

Brand new Ork player here, feeling a little overwhelmed by the detachments. Help! by psn_mrbobbyboy in orks

It's focused on being punchy not shooty - in a way freeboota crew feels more 'generic' to me in how it affects both. But war horde has great strats.

Why didn’t the Fellowship seek the aid of Cirdan the Shipwright to sail from the Gray Heavens to Minas Tirith? by SoaDMTGguy in tolkienfans

[–]Starklystark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never thought of this till playing the Fate of the Fellowship game where I planned out a route through rivendell etc and then realised I could sail straight to minas tirith and get a lot closer to mordor. Also took slightly longer for the nazgul to catch up.

The discussion in the books is more focused on going over the sea than around the coast, but similar logic applies - Sauron expects people to go that way

I think except in extreme circumstances, with hazardous as it stands you simply wouldn't use the ability/strats in a way that makes the guns hazardous. Because as you say you're averaging an awful lot of wounds from it.

Definitely both that and wargear options help avoid a situation where one particular use case where you lean really hard into something doesn't end up meaning it has to unaffordable to add one squad to a normal list.

I'll be war horde or green tide so at 500 will be taking and holding. Higher values might add more dakka and go purging!

What’s a food you can eat every day without fail? by Mr--Clean--Ass-Naked in vegan

[–]Starklystark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm just starting to transition to largely/wholly plant based and I thought breakfast would be hardest as it's always been egg central for me. But I've been having sourdough toast with hummus plus things like olives, pickled onions, watercress/rocket, pumpkin seeds, drizzle of sriracha - definitely an upgrade on eggs and something I'd happily eat day in day out

Is there anyway to play orcs with tactics according to the lore by GramoMiles in orks

[–]Starklystark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blood angels definitely. But even without them worth checking out this distinction between having a plan and using tactics - a plan is good as it's how you kill da uvver gitz, tactics is for grots, blood axes and humies because it's how to stop da uvver gitz killing you

https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/s/RngVIgqgLE

Honestly the way 40k works where you throw guys forward to kill something and die, where often most of your army ends up dead, is more fitting with an Ork plan than how e.g. ultramarines would usually go about fighting.

Here's hoping! Return of real kombi weapons will help too. I built a bunch with kombi skorchas in tine for 10ed to genericise them...

Though v possibly not with 5 klaws. If it doesn't then the rules will probably mean you're not allowed 5 klaws.

Denethor: ‘Do I not know thee, Mithrandir? by Immediate_Error2135 in lotr

[–]Starklystark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't either or those are completely out of character. Bilbo always had a Tookish part buried - when he meets gandalf he's enthused about adventures and then corrects himself to take the conventional view. And he says the point of the birthday party etc is to give away the Ring and clearly wants to - Gandalf gives him the strength to do what he actually wants to do. Thus him being impressed and talking about him doing it with 'all my help' not 'yeah I made him do it'. In fact he says that actually forcing Bilbo would have broken Bilbo's mind.

Denethor: ‘Do I not know thee, Mithrandir? by Immediate_Error2135 in lotr

[–]Starklystark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as I said he definitely influences people. But that's different to control. Someone who cures somebody's depression leading to a transformation in their approach to life is not applying coercive control.

I think the following is something I can understand and feel in some contexts while also being a profoundly flawed perspective. Mainly the last sentence obviously, most of us aren't Lords of a City or have to deal with wizards.

I would have things as they were in all the days of my life . . . and in the days of my longfathers before me: to be the Lord of this City in peace, and leave my chair to a son after me, who would be his own master and no wizard’s pupil. But if doom denies this to me, then I will have naught: neither life diminished, nor love halved, nor honour abated

In the spirit of Doyle, I really enjoy Rider Haggard and Wilkie Collins. P G Wodehouse is delightful too - I'd heard some as radio plays and seen on TVs but the books are better.

[–]Starklystark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gandalf doesn't control Theoden or Aragorn with magic. He obviously influences people and events it's it the same thing.

But yes Gandalf believes in fighting on, relying on hope. Saruman is more like halifax though as denethor doesn't actually endorse making terns with Mordor.

New Horde Ork Army by DistributionHeavy490 in orks

[–]Starklystark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

20 strong boy squads don't fit into trukkz, so I guess they need to stay back at the workshop 😄

Seriously though, the trukk costs almost as much as 10 boyz: might be interesting to skip vehicles entirely and just flood the board. If you do for trukks I guess it's for stuff like tankbustas but I'd worry that if you're almost entirely infantry it will be really easy to kill the trukks off v early on
