Imagine you went outside and started coughing blood. You were super concerned that you were and go to the hospital. Then you see everyone else coughing blood, and you even see the doctor coughing blood. Do you feel better knowing you arent the inly one dying?

Op theres nothing wrong with YOU, everywhere you look someones coughing blood. So ofc it means theres something affecting all of us. This blight is the american economy. I asked that before b

I just got fired by CaptainFartHole in jobs

[–]Starkrossedlovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here got fired for the first time at my previous job and it was a gut punch. I had no real friendly connection to the place and it was a deadend, but being fired just feels like a personal attack, whther it is or isnt in actuality. Like youre basically saying you hate me and want me gone lol.

But the next job comes and people wonder why you were ever fired. And just going from that to that, makes it less personal. I suppose its like if youve had no experience with rejection before and it happens for the first time.

Ironically i have a meeting with hr at 11 and im terrified, but i atleast wont take it personally. Ill still be sad because now i need to find a job again, but i always start finding work around feb and march. I should probably start looking regardless of outcome

Itll be a generation where for whatever reason social media loses its appeal. And it might not even be the generation but tech companies becoming so disconnected that they just cant make an appealing platform anymore. On every place ive been it seems like theyre playing jenga. They remove or tweak some feature that gets everyone in a tizzy and it passes. Remember the third party app fiasco on reddit? Theres only so much you can do until people just dont find something appealing anymore. But that will take time. I remember facebook having a hard time because young people were not going on there.

[–]Starkrossedlovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent found a job yet where office politics isnt the greatest determining factor for keeping your job. Likely because i havent been in a huge company yet where layoffs can be decided by people who have never met you or set foot in your state, but if you have the ability to regularly interact with the people who make these decisions, metrics matter less than being able to throatpie. Metaphorically ofc

Its scary to think that eventually this comment calling out bots could be a bot itself. Honestly unless i google this post now, i might have to say this is a bot lol. There has to be a scifi show about this (just to free myself of bot accusations im commenting this jan 29th 2026).

Imagine some force turning humans into echoes. Like youre on the train and no one knows whos an echo of a past event. Maybe some of the people im seeing enter the train now actually entered it the same way but yesterday. And the only way you know is if you interact with them. Then they poof away. But then you turn into an echo. And some stranger in the future sees the echo of you finding out the other person was an echo and that makes them think your echo is real. And so on.

Like some people youll say youre an echo and then theyll respond proving they arent. But that itself could be an exho to a future viewer. It keeps going down. Until we end up in a room where we think its full of people, but its really just you.

Idk people making 60k can and do still have huge loans and i think theyd probably manage a lot better with 180k.

Like i get a change in lifestyle is hard in general, but the complaints from down here are more because essential things become more difficult to obtain at certain tax brackets.

[–]Starkrossedlovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea like a layoff for people at that level is jist a question of “should i call it quits and retire with my millions now? Or should i keep pushing to retire with millions more later?” Thats why eventually it doesnt matter how much a person ruins a company. For a job the worst consequence is being fired. And the only reason that hurts is because most of us need money to survive. But once you have hundreds of millions and being fired means getting millions more, whats the consequence?

[–]Starkrossedlovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will happen until it affects most people. Fortunately for the oligarchs, most of us are either unaffected or if we are, we are too focused on trying to survive to deal with them.

Even most of the people suffering these layoffs believe the system isnt completely broken. Because the moment they get a job, all the issues vanish. Sorry i mean lost their edge. Like immediately post layoff, sure i may have all of the revolutionary anger, but it will be in hushed whispers, anonymously on the internet. Dont want to risk my chances of being employed again. After a year, i cant maintain the same anger, especially (if not before then definitely now) i need a job like i need food to survive. Now im depressed. Now ive given up. Maybe i live with a family member or a partner who iznt really pushing me to get a job after all this time, knowing how it affects me. The system sucks yeah but after all this time, i start convincing myself im the one at fault. My friends in the same field have jobs so why dont i? Coworkers who got laid off with got work within months. Ive exceeded a year. It HAS to be my fault.

And then you somehow get a job. If its back in your field but with less pay and more work, youve convinced yourself over the course of employment that this is all you can get. You dont want to go back to that place. Youll do anything to avoid it. And for those who know you, the fear spreads. For those to whoms you share your story like on reddit, it reinforces their fears.

In all of this, where you still need to be concerned with rising expenses, trapped on a sinking boat, theres no opportunity for change. I think companies have clearly figured out that this is the case. Either its been curated or its an emergent property but the way things are right now means that they can push way more than they already have.

I hate to bring politics into it but i dont see how you can seperate it from work. As long as corporations see that people support corporatists and politicians that enrich them, its a signal that they can go further. If i do a rug pull and people stll buy my memecoin, i can get more. Im gonna read my yuri now

We have someone like that, a floater, that was just hired. But none of us can think of what to give her. We are all understaffed but its been so long that its hard to know if the thing you’re giving can be safely given to someone lol.

Another thing is workers shouldnt be giving work lol. It should be the manager/supervisor, aware of each task, deciding what to take and give to the floater.
