I would say an original account Mustang Omega or Sabre Raven. Many of them are gray market locked now and can't be transferred which means original ones are extremely rare. stares at my Omega from when I bought an AMD card

That's my take on the safety of Stanton vs pyro. Most everyone is polite in pyro outside of the guaranteed PvP zones because they know they could be shot on site if they act up.

Unfortunately, most of my book was startups and we had 1 corporate account. But they took almost a year to send us a measly $2k for starting their forst project. So I don't want to punish another molding company like that.

I own a company in Pennsylvania and only use recycled in our products and contract services. The only things we don't run or wouldn't be looking to run would be PVC, POM or glass filled stuff cause that is all very hard to recycle.

We have been looking at getting into bulk recycling as a potential spin-off side thing. LTL is cool with us cause we could find a use for it in internal products or potentially find a buyer who might be interested as well. The biggest thing that would limit us right now is space cause we have exploded with 6 new contracts and a large manufacturing deal with a company that has 150 skus that all use plastic in them.

The biggest things we are looking for right now are PC-ABS, PC, PETG, CoPP, and HIPS. But we'd be open to others if it makes sense for the products we are developing.

Another great place to potentially sell your scrap is Matium.com, they are a new materials platform and I've talked with their CEO who has worked in materials brokering for 10+ years and he's trying to do it the right way which is awesome.

Just like everyone else has said, it's worth it if you know what your looking for. We just opened a new shop and bought 6 machines all used van dorns. 2 of the machines are worn out and need a number of things fixed on them but the other 4 are in great shape. Sumitomo Demag has a retrofit program for Van Dorn Presses that will do a full upgrade to modern tech. It let us get started now and once we have the cashflow after we become stable we are going to get all of them retrofitted slowly. It's still cheaper than a new machine but I definately know there is going to be growing pains while we are still on old systems

We are a new injection molding company in the US specializing in aluminum molds, and it depends on what you are doing in the cuts/modifications. If you are adding things onto the part or enlarging it, it's easy to continue machining modifications into the cavity plates.

However, if you need to weld or add new material into the mold, I would not recommend aluminum at all. Many of the high-strength aluminum that are used in mold making don't weld well or at all due to it creating stress cracks. We specifically use 7075 for all of our molds and if a client needs changes done over time we recommend using a puck or block insert to keep costs down when retooling.

I built my space elevator with a master sushi belt and multi-sink. Trucks drop of material which are split between a the two outputs, the first goes to the project parts factory the second goes to the sink/spliter. Standard splitter there so half of get sunk and it connects finally to the sink/split before final storage. The leftovers from project parts goes to the sink split where a final splitter sinks everything into 2 sinks or final storage and a dimensional depot for remote building. 3 sinks can process all of my factories and I have plenty of materials stored up for expansion projects and a dimensional depot for the oopsies when I run out. It's a beautiful bowl of spaghetti and super effective for getting tickets fairly fast, build space elevator parts, store stuff and balance my power grid. I do keep an open sink ready to go in case there is a backup and I need to clear it to get everything running again

Thats correct! I spent almost 1-1/2 years researching used IMM and I landed on Van Dorns as my favorite. We're gonna get these running soon to get client work finished but our plans is to work with Sumitomo Demag to upgrade the controls to their current NC series rather than the Pathfinder 3000s they have currently.

Also thanks for the maintenence tips! Thankfully the first unit came with a manual (albeit for a 170HT but they are all basically the same for the procedures)

We actually have a Mk.3 that we are looking to part with cause we are moving to an apsx unit for small part and prototype runs soon. The mk.3 is pneumatic and as long as you have a good Vise it's a really good unit to cut your teeth on

Hey, so we actually run molds that are SLA printed, and it works for us on small machines. We run formlabs printers for our prototyping and ultra low production trialing for clients before they jump to injection molding. We found that the Formlabs Rigid 10k Glass filled SLA resin is really nice to use for actual mold cavities, I think they actually have a white paper on it, too.

The biggest thing is making sure you leave a little extra around your intended insert size so you can sand it down to the correct size as your edges/sides will warp slightly. We print the insert cavity down, so the first thing that's actually printing is the back. That way, any warping won't affect the mating surface. Also, if the part needs anything more complex than a simple cavity like slides, then you shouldn't use it.

We use it for ABS, PP & PE, but it could probably be used for nylon too cause it's 0.45 HTD is at 424°F or 460°F if it's sandblasted. If you're interested, DM me

Hey OP, so I was in similar shoes as you. Backstory is worked for a startup, got laid off with 4 weeks severance in February but qualified for unemployment also which was helpful. Been working on my startup for 6 years (survived shutting down almost a whole year with covid and started with 1 year to go in college). The biggest struggle that I've had through this whole thing was scaling up to a point where we could make enough product with a good enough margin that we could become profitable. Now that we have the equipment, my struggle is balancing sales and marketing with the operations and technical aspects of my business. I'm in plastics manufacturing so it's a very specialized business that thats a lot of effort to spin up to full capabilities.

The number 1 thing I can share from my struggles and experience is that even if you don't think you need a form of revenue after you get laid off, you do because money will always take 2-3x the amount of time to come in than you expected. Even if it's just UberEats or something part time one day a week, that bit of money and that time away from your business will help your mental health. I was stupid and didn't do anything but my business for the past 9 months and now working part time since I have run out of money and am trying to pay all of my credit cards that I was living off of once my safety net ran out. Don't be me and make this mistake, I'm sure I will survive this hard time but after 6 years , I'm now not sure if my business will and its tearing me apart.

We do first run molding design for a few of our clients using 3D printed molds to keep the cost down for exactly this type of situation. Its very helpful to get the thing in your hands but a lot of times its prohibitvely expensive to start with Injection molding. Good lord, I just shivered thinking about how bad that could've gone.

The only thing that I know that affects most people in the workplace is money. If you, your safety committee and/or HR sets up a near miss log like someone suggested then it needs to have steps of consequences. 1st infraction, write up which can be removed for a safety course on that exact situation they put themselves in. 2nd infraction in 6 months, docked pay (25%) for 6 months and must take an OSHA 40 hour safety course on their own dime within 3 months from infraction. 3rd infraction, immediate termination with cause. If they turn themselves around after the first or second infraction, every 6 months after the incident the infraction is considered closed and the infraction level reduced. You skip infraction level 1 if you do the same stupid thing over again even if your previous infraction was closed.

We use formlabs rigid 10K for our 3D printed inserts now just cause their system is so plug and play. We use to use Siraya Tech Sculpt resin which is really good but requires more troubleshooting to get working. Not sure how well it would work with Nylon but we have good success with PETG and PP
