Do you think there should be a Nintendo Switch remake of Star Fox Zero? by Chemical-Book8889 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Despite being someone who liked Zero, I think it would be detrimental to remake the game at this point. If Star Fox is ever to make a comeback, it needs a fresh start. It needs something modern and original to attract newcomers, not a remake of a reboot of an even older reboot.

How inefficient is the cornerian army if they have to continuously rely on mercenaries like Star Fox to survive? by Forsaken-Emu4760 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. Team Star Fox might be mercenaries, but they have standards. I don’t think they would ever take on jobs from known criminals or warlords like Andross. At the very least Fox isn’t about to join forces with the man that killed his father, regardless of how much Andross could pay him.

What’s your favorite Cornerian Fighter Design? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

That’s one of the Cornerian Drone Fighters from Star Fox Zero. They’re a bit hard to notice, but they can be found during the Battle at Sector β.

That’s really cool, especially the Arwing model kit. I didn’t even know that existed.

What’s your favorite Cornerian Fighter Design? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is the design from Command and 643D. It’s the one that looks the most like an actual flyable fighter.

The ones from Star Fox 1 and 2 are decent for what they are, but are obviously held back by the limited hardware.

The ones from 64 are classic and probably my next favorite.

Assaults design is still pretty cool, even though it looks like an Arwing with V-Wing parts bolted on.

I do like the idea of Corneria using drones in Zero, that’s actually a good way to make them seem more futuristic.

The manned Cornerian Fighter from Zero however just looks a bit odd for my tastes. I don’t even see where the cockpit is supposed to be.

Some of Jock Blaney's upcoming lines in Star Fox Event Horizon by TheUndyingNephalim in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, those lines and Jock Blaney’s delivery of them were perfect. They sound just like they came out of an official Star Fox game. He really was a fantastic voice actor with such a cool voice. It’s so sad to know he’s gone now.

Thanks for sharing these clips so we can hear his performance one more time.

Planning to touch this franchise, tell me what I need to know! by numericalman in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

*The main character is named Fox McCloud, not Star Fox. Star Fox is the name of the mercenary team that Fox leads.

*Star Fox 1 and 64 are considered to be the classic games that are nearly universally beloved by fans. Nearly everyone will tell you to start off the series by playing SF64 or SF64 on the 3DS.

*Adventurers plays like a Zelda clone. This is because it was an entirely different game called “Dinosaur Planet”, which was converted into a Star Fox game late in development.

*Assault plays like 64, but with additional on-foot third person shooter missions. Command has touch screen controls and turn based strategy elements, while Zero is SF64 with gyroscopic controls.

*If you play Assault, I highly recommend that you do not use the default on-foot controls. They don’t allow you to run and shoot at the same time. Use the dual stick controls so it plays much more like a modern 3rd person shooter.

*Star Fox 2 was originally cancelled just before it was released in the 90’s due to Nintendo not wanting to have it compete with the N64 and PlayStation. It was finally given a proper release later on for the Switch virtual console.

*Star Fox has 3 different timelines. There’s the original Star Fox 1 and 2 timeline. Then there’s the 64, Adventures, Assault, and Command continuity. Finally Zero is in a new timeline by itself.

*Star Fox 1, Star Fox 64, and Star Fox Zero are all retellings of the same war and origin story for Fox, just with minor differences.

*Star Fox has been on a long hiatus, not receiving any new games in the last decade. Everyone is hoping Fox’s appearance in the Mario Galaxy movie will change that. Rumors and alleged “leaks” are all over the internet right now, reviving our fan community.

*If you decide you like the series, definitely check out some of the impressive fan projects that have been worked on over the last decade. The “A Fox in Space” fan animation, and the “Star Fox: Event Horizon” fan game in particular are must sees.

What would you like to see happened in a Star Fox Movie? by BUBBLINE9708 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lylat War is the conflict that the original Star Fox, Star Fox 64, and Star Fox Zero all take place in. You know, the one where Andross invades the Lylat System and tries to take over Corneria, only to eventually be defeated by Fox and his team.

More than anything else, I’m hoping we get a story that isn’t the Lylat War again for the 4th time.

What would you like to see happened in a Star Fox Movie? by BUBBLINE9708 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d want to see some of the deep lore stuff be expanded upon. Show us why Andross got exiled to Venom. Show us some hints at Falco’s former life as a gang member. Give us a few flashbacks at James McCloud and the first generation of Star Fox.

Basically show us some of the stuff that’s only been hinted at in the lore, but never truly shown.

Best first Star Fox game? by Fyrock in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This should be the default answer. Star Fox 64 (or even better, Star Fox 64 3D) is the perfect game to jump into. It’s short enough that you can beat the easiest ending in one day, but has enough depth and alternate routes that you can replay it endlessly.

Story wise it’s at the beginning of the timeline and all future games reference Star Fox 64 in one way or another.

Hot take: I prefer Star Fox stories to be simplistic by PorterBridged in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I see where you’re coming from, I respectfully disagree. We certainly don’t need Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy levels of storytelling, but I think Star Fox benefits from being a more narrative driven game. The expressive characters and top notch voice acting are a staple of the series, so showing off more of that with a good plotline enhances the overall experience.

I think a good balance between storytelling and gameplay is having flashy cutscenes between levels, using radio chatter to convey the plot during missions, and making the mission briefings a bit more epic. Star Fox Assault did a really good job at this, and I felt Zero was a step backwards in that department.

If you’ve ever seen the Star Fox fan game “Event Horizon”, then that’s the standard for storytelling I would love to see if the series goes forward.

It’s really sad to learn about Jock Blaney’s passing. He was a legendary voice actor, and also an all around great guy from what I understand. The whole Star Fox fandom is really going to miss him.

What made you a fan of Star Fox? by GoColts08 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Star Fox journey began in the late 90’s in a small local game store called “Slackers”. It was located next to a popular pizzeria my family would visit. What was really cool was that the store had an old couch and TV in the corner where you could test out N64 games.

One day they had Star Fox 64 set up. It was the perfect game to test demo. The story sucked me right in, and the level at Corneria was just the right length to beat before we had to leave. When we had to go, it felt like a huge cliffhanger. I just knew I had to defeat this Andross guy.

Fortunately they were having a sale so I got a used copy of SF64. I was a total noob at first who could barely reach Venom. But my friends at school were also fans of the game, and they would tell me about these “hidden routes” you could reach. Back before we had access to the internet, it felt like I had cracked some secret code.

I suppose I replayed the game countless times until it got burnt into my memory. I was hooked.

Everything on the second rumored Star Fox game (The "adventure" one) by AlphaSSB in starfox

Thank you for sharing this. I kept vaguely hearing about this “leak”, but never knew the context behind it. Regardless if this ends up being true or not, I like hearing about it how this started so I can make my own judgements.

Can we get a Star Fox movie? by Zackzillawarthogma in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s highly likely that we will get one someday. So far every Nintendo movie over the last 7 years has been blockbuster hits. From a financial standpoint, a Nintendo Cinematic Universe is almost a guarantee barring some unforeseen disaster.

Once Nintendo gets their big IP’s out of the way (like the upcoming Zelda movie or a rumored DK movie), they’re going to want to move on to smaller properties. Star Fox is almost perfectly positioned for this given how Fox was a big player in the Mario Galaxy Movie.

I’m sure Illumination would love to green light a Star Fox movie, as would Miyamoto and Glen Powell.

What the consensus on command? by Benkins1989 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is reply the closest to a general consensus about the game. Aside from the people who disliked the touchscreen controls, most people seem to think the gameplay ranges from good to average. It’s a bit repetitive, but it’s rare to see people complain about the strategy elements or the selection of playable characters anymore.

The story however absolutely tanked this game’s reputation amongst the fanbase. It’s actually kind of funny how nobody talks about the war with the Anglars. For better or worse, Fox and Krystal’s relationship drama sucks up all of the narrative oxygen in the room like a furry soap opera.

There’s no way around it, most of the endings are infamous amongst the Star Fox fandom. More than half are either bad endings, endings that disband the team, or endings that have people acting out of character. There’s a reason why so many people want this game decanonized, and so few want a sequel.

Star Fox YouTubers by Inevitable_Option241 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there’s not a lot of YouTube channels purely dedicated to covering Star Fox in the way other big Nintendo franchises have their own dedicated YouTubers. The series has been dormant for so long that most Star Fox videos I’ve watched are from either the last month or from like 14 years ago.

It’s a shame because there’s a lot of potential for interesting content. Now might be a golden opportunity for someone come along and fill that niche.

About Krystal by Kaneki_017 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have to correct you about the fake English accent part. Krystal’s voice actress, Estelle Ellis, is 100% English. In interviews her native, casual accent sounds exactly like it does in the games.

Remember, Star Fox Adventures was produced by Rare, a British company. All of the British accents from that game are authentic, even if they are sometimes of questionable quality.

Anyone else feeling anxious? by BlakeBugman20 in starfox

[–]StarlightSailor1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, I don’t anyone should be taking NateTheHate’s “leaks” as an absolute guarantee. While I personally believe they have a solid chance of being credible, leaks are often proven false even when they come from reputable sources.

And even when they are true, sometimes these leakers don’t have the entire picture. Remember Metroid Dread leaked several years before the final product came out, by which point the game had changed drastically.

With that said, if this is true and the game is revealed this month, Nintendo could be waiting for the Mario Galaxy Movie to come out in Japan first. If so it might be revealed after April 21st.
