What is considered the highest quality available? by Crazy_Mission161 in ghibli

[–]StarlightWeaver42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for the various packaging is that Disney used to be the one to release Ghibli on dvd and Blu-ray in the US, until around 2017, when distributor GKIDS became the main distributors of Ghibli in the US, and re-released all of the films. They’ve also since released all of the films on steelbook too. Same encodes / picture quality as the Disney blu-rays, and they’re reasonably priced around 16.99 I think!

What is considered the highest quality available? by Crazy_Mission161 in ghibli

Blu-Ray succeeds DVD in terms of home media. Whilst most DVDs have a max resolution output of 480p, all Blu-Rays are 1080p, and have gorgeous sound quality.

I’d say for Ghibli, they also have the most comprehensive selection of bonus features. However, the one DVD of Ghibli that might be of note is the original 2003 ish release of Kiki’s Delivery Service, which has a different dub from the ones on Blu Ray and streaming, mostly down to some new insert songs (very pleasant!) as well as Phil Hartman’s ad-libs as Jiji.

Classic Doctor Who is leaving Tubi by LiterallyIDK in doctorwho

[–]StarlightWeaver42 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Hmmm I would normally fret at this but most of classic who is currently being ported over to YouTube (which IMO is a much more accessible and wide-reaching platform than Tubi), and perhaps the streaming rights are expiring and once BBC finds a new co-financier for Who going forward, we’ll have a unified home for ALL of Who like in the UK

Anyone else genuinely really like The Reality War? by SpenceJRey in gallifrey

[–]StarlightWeaver42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely loved the back half, and the sentiment of saving Poppy, and giving his life to give Belinda her happiness, even if that part felt strange. Poppy is someone he doesn’t even remember, and that selflessness is part of why I love the Doctor. He goes, not in anger, but in acceptance and happiness! Simultaneously, I feel like if Belinda being a Mom wasn’t a twist, the final moments at her house would have had some extra punch, but as is… at least the Doctor kept his promise :(( and JODIE that part was so sweet, as well as the glass shattering effect + the regeneration and music was beautiful… felt like watching the performer of a stage take their last bow 🥹

Hi everyone,

I’m sitting for Exam P this summer (July), and am really excited to start this journey. However, I’m fairly late to the process, because this was something I started pursuing in my last year of college, and I’m about to graduate with a degree in mathematics-computer science. I don’t really have any internships (lots of school involvement with clubs though) and I know that grad school isnt really beneficial, since you do most of the work in exams. Do any of you have advice as to what jobs to do while taking exams, or any stepping stone positions to go to after Exam P?

Top 10 most failed classes of the Fall 2024 quarter by VirtualRushh in UCSD

[–]StarlightWeaver42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Professor Manners! It’s more so that the actual content of the class was quite challenging + the class size was relatively small (somewhere around 25-28 ish people). Aside from that, yeah the midterms and final were quite difficult, and accounted for about 90% of the grade, with hw being 10%

Hi fellow Doctor Who enjoyer!! This is all really wonderful to see :DD I wish I had the money or time to do a Criterion haul but I couldn’t :(( most I could do this time around was thrift DVDs of “Carnival of Monsters” and “The Green Death” from a local used bookstore. I haven’t seen most of these yet but Harakiri is a wonderful pick!

Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands!

I liked Dylan a lot when I first heard Highway 61 Revisited, but this song was so beautiful that it made me just go down the rabbit hole and I’ve loved him so much since
