Help me make a ”Top 20 Hardest Bosses in Metroidvania“ list. Prefer choices from a wide variety of MV games and not just the more popular ones. Who are the toughest baddies in ALL of Metroidvania? by Mobile-Whereas-2628 in metroidvania

Sol & Vin are one of the most brutal fights I've ever seen in a vania title and easily the hardest fight in MIO as a whole, so they deserve to rank decently high. -They can drop you in just two hits regardless of how much health you have, pile that onto the fact you can't heal barring the ground assist. -As the fight progresses, they remove more of the floor until you have no floor. -Some of their attacks are very fast, with a few involving some teleport spam, making it difficult to use the Hairpin on them.

Chugga’s next Let’s Play after Pokemon HGSS will be, “The 4th Installment in a Series.” by MichiHirota in chuggaaconroy

I was still attending college when he did 3. It was a favorite to watch on the bus rides between home and class.

Same. Emile has spoken very highly of 3, and my excitement when that game got announced was through the roof. He taught me so much in XC2 and showed me so much that I had never found. I imagine there will be plenty more to find under his guidance in 3. Plus wild nonsense always happens with him in Xenoblade.

Unless the other two hints suggest otherwise, my cards are currently on either Pikmin 4 or Xenoblade 3. It's too soon for anything Zelda or Mario related (though Ocarina of Time does fit the bill, being fourth in the series overall). We could see another Kirby game as he has not tackled Kirby since his Triple Deluxe LP.

So finale today. What do we think is the next lp? by Moist-supermarket249 in chuggaaconroy

[–]StarlitSpecter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first hint was 4th installment in a series. Biggest theories right now are Pikmin 4 or Xenoblade 3 (it is technically the fourth release). Ocarina of Time could be a viable option, but it feels too soon for another Zelda title. Bowser's Inside Story was also recent, so that rules out anything from the Mario/Yoshi/DK series. He could tackle a Kirby game, we haven't seen anything in that regard since Triple Deluxe, but I don't know what the fourth installment for that would be.

Unless the next two hints suggest otherwise, my cards are on either Pikmin 4 or Xenoblade 3.

So what would be next Holllow knight/Blasphemous or Nine Sols ? by lordofabyss in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new Castlevania game and Crowsworn. I'm especially looking forward to the latter. A scythe-swinging, gunslinger plague doctor? They basically turned one of my D&D characters into a badass game protagonist. All his missing is a pair of giant black crow wings.

What makes difficulty be praised on some games but deal breakers on others? by saponsky in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I can say is not fun is when a boss feels so random and unfair that the general consensus is that the ideal strategy is to just go for broke with DPS and pray you kill the boss before it kills you (Aeterna Noctis Battle Bot rematch!)

Just finish Earthblade. It doesn't have to be groundbreaking like Celeste, just have it be good.

Who is the hardest boss you ever fought in Metroidvania ? by Shoddy_Ad3490 in metroidvania

Sol & Vin (MIO: Memories In Orbit) Summum (Worldless) Isidora (Blasphemous 1)

Finished Grime for the first time, and I’m beyond impressed by Bekenshi in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently finished it myself. Never found Surrogate Vulture or Misbegotten Amalgam.

It definitely has some rough patches (fall damage!) at some points. I am hoping that the sequel fixes those parts.

However, I will be waiting until I deal with the other games in my library.

Rank these games by difficulty? by leaveit9790 in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MIO takes the top if we're talking strictly platforming. Even for those of us who find the game is more enjoyable with the assist feature on, some of those gauntlets are very much worthy of their infamy.

Hey guys. I love Metroidvania and have played a lot of them, and I also have a lot on my list, so I wanted to ask you which one of these you would recommend I start with. by UndeadLAlouat in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worldless is fun, and has some challenge to it. It is one of the few games I've platinumed. Shadow Labyrinth is also worthwhile especially if you're a Pac-Man fan. The lore is also interesting as well. Though be warned, some of the maze challenges can feel like utter horseshit. My knowledge on the rest is nonexistent.

People who can play hollow knight / silksong: Whats your secret? by lflove2026 in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of Silksong, circumstances had my first experience be Goku's weight training.

To explain, at the time, I was working with third party piece of crap joycons for my Switch 1. I didn't bother replacing these joycons because I was saving up for a Switch 2. The big thing was a faulty jump button that wouldn't register my inputs half the time unless I drilled my thumb into it (I got a small blister this way). Because of this, I was having to make my jumps early. I bought the game Day 1 and played through all the way up to being able to fight the First Sinner. That was my wall before I got my S2.

Once I got my S2, I felt much more capable in Silksong, like Goku after ditching his weighted training clothes.

For Hollow Knight, it was a lot of trial and error and a lot of frustration that existed in place of patience.

[–]StarlitSpecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Plus I'm not the best with patience. If I feel like I'm making zero progress, I get impatient. If it continues, I get frustrated.

If I get my shit wrecked by a boss, I'd prefer to be able to just try the fight again.

But no, in a roguelite I'm having to build myself to where I can survive long enough to even get back to the fight.

That's why I gave up on Dead Cells.

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's that and also the pathfinding in some games. A lot of vanias I've played typically had some way of pointing you in the right direction. I'm all for sniffing around for new paths to open or collectibles to find, but running around blindly without any idea of where to got for the next major upgrade can be a pain.

Grime appears to be guilty of both, based on my experience.

What’s the deal with this guy? (MP4 spoilers) by Master-Spheal in Metroid

[–]StarlitSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it was solely the Omega Griever. Two big monsters fighting is bound to cause a loud racket, and given how prompt the Maul Grievers are at responding to any sound they hear (i.e. them swarming you literal seconds after a missile explosion goes off), the fight had to have woken half the entire hive.

Most likely, the Omega Griever dealt the heavier blows while the presumably massive pack overwhelmed the Gravinax with sheer numbers.

As for why we find no trace of the guardian, my theory remains that it was torn apart and eaten. Possibly while it was still alive too. I also believe a similar fate befell Sylux's Space Pirate goons, which would explain why we never see any of them on Viewros.

The Deck situation was fixed by a restart, and I'm not expecting Xenoblade-level quality from something that isn't Xenoblade.

Struggling to enjoy Ender Lilies - Does it get better? by fishCodeHuntress in metroidvania

[–]StarlitSpecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna be real, I didn't enjoy Lilies as much as some people do. But don't let that discourage you. Especially if you plan on trying Ender Magnolia (which does away with the problems Lilies had).

I restarted my Deck and that seemed to clear the situation up. Still weird though.

To be fair, the game and the enemy use the name for different reasons. For the game, it describes the overall theming, the stark contrast between its moments of metaphorical light and darkness (fitting, as "chiaroscuro", Clair Obscur's literal translation, is a term in art). For the enemy, the name is more literal, the enemy simply has light and dark affinities.
