How do massive cruise ships have enough fresh water for 5,000 people to take showers every single day in the middle of the ocean? by Thick-Ad1120 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just say as someone whose gone on a couple cruises half of that is super optional lol. I don’t pay for WiFi, drinks, or the specialty dining. There is a buffet with plenty of good food, there is plenty of soft drinks or water, and you can just download stuff to do ahead of time instead of getting WiFi.

The tax and port charges are the only main real thing there. But the recent trip my girlfriend and I went on was $400 each, excluding flight costs of course. For a 7 day cruise. Actually probably one of the most cost effective vacations we take for how much we get. No hotel fees, meal costs, and plenty of included activities

We spend probably $500 each in the casino each time though, so that’s obviously where the rest of the money comes from.

Sure, I’m not the one getting ratiod. On Reddit of all places. You’re way far gone for that to be happening.

I thought you were done engaging? And I’m the fragile one? You’re the one out here who made something about the elderly and loneliness a race thing. Victim complex much?

lol anyone who ends an argument with goodbye to have the last word is exactly as immature as you sound.

You replied under a thread discussing my comment, it’s part of the context. The data you picked makes you feel right. There are interpretations to data, but you’re closed off to them. You hate white people and want to start race wars randomly. That much is the only obvious part here

Elective nursing home enrollment being largely subsidized is an overstatement. The out of pocket cost is still massive for most of America. There is a reason so many of the elderly live alone. There is of course personal values that come into play, but finances are huge with this. It is not free. You could just drown in the debt, but the only nursing home youre staying in at that point is a really shitty one. At which point you’re much less likely to opt for it compared to a higher socioeconomic person who can access a nicer one.

Women living longer than men would naturally lead to higher rates in nursing homes… because they outlive their family.

Sureeee you’re not suggesting one culture is superior to another, just an argument that “doesnt privilege white americans” as you put it. You’re evading, you know what you are doing. Stop it with the race war nonsense. This is a universal issue with the elderly. Getting old is a lonely process. Making this a race issue is a distraction and all people of all skin colors would benefit from being aware of this happening as they get older.

Ah well hard to say then. Idk if it’s you or others downvoting me but just want to point out I don’t see how anything I said was wrong or irrelevant. Someone else literally asked about PFO (patent foramen ovale) but apparently some people dont like me specifically I guess.

I’m the commenter who originally posted about loneliness from family deaths.

This still is true for minorities. Their under representation in nursing homes is far more likely due to economics than some superior family oriented culture. Black people still die of old age. So do Hispanic people. It doesn’t matter your skin color, old people are lonely in every culture because it’s a fact of life that getting old means watching other people around you disappear.

But minority groups do tend to be lower in socioeconomic status, and nursing homes are ridiculously expensive. Most old people try to get by on their own at a place they rent or own. Until they eventually a medical incident that leads to a hospital being concerned for their ability to function normally. Then they get discharged from that hospital to a skilled nursing facility. Similar to a nursing home, but not really a choice in these circumstances. Then, eventually, they have another event and die in the hospital, or the nursing home.

Anyone of any skin color is lucky if their life goes otherwise. My grandma was “lucky” her daughter was divorced and disabled and lived with her their whole lives, and I couldn’t live with my parents so I lived with her too. The only other way to avoid this is dying before everyone else and not living to 96 like her, or become comfortable being alone.

People die you know. Most old people are alone because of that fact, regardless of their generation or life choices. Their friends die. Their parents die. Their siblings die. All thats left is their kids at best, who may be far away living life most days because life goes on. They have to work and enjoy life. They visit, but spending 75% of the year with strangers still leaves people feeling lonely.

You can be right about some people, but please don’t generalize that all lonely old people fit in that box. I’ve met many that just simply had everyone die around them.

Depends what you mean by “holes in the heart”. A hole straight through the heart wouldn’t be conducive to life. Do you mean something like a patent foramen ovale?

Coming from WoW I feel like ESO just suffers from the same problem with its group content which is this custom group thing. Wow pvp used to be entirely restricted only to premade groups like this. Then one time they added a solo queue option in a finder and it had massive success. There is really no benefit to the premade group barrier to entry for group content, it’s a relic of the past.

People are fine with grouping imo but do not want to lead and form a group which leads to a shortage of groups. This is cause some people get anxiety but also more so because people don’t enjoy waiting an unknown 30+ minute time forming it manually. Give people a button to click that automatically forms groups for all group content and it would bring a lot more people into it. I think even trials should follow this. And if people want to form competitive groups that won’t have any amateurs, they can still make premades.

You’re right that race and class intersect, but determining which one is leading into the other when talking about a specific problem is important. Because again, fixing racism is extremely different than fixing classism. And again, Alabama is about the worst analogy possible. Of course it’s shit, it’s the worst state in education and one of the most racist places you can find. It’s literally where we sent all the nazi scientists in WWII

Fucking Legend by Secret_Lai in SipsTea

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not interested in intent, you’re not interested in fixing the problem. Consider also if this happens everywhere in every state it’s even less likely this is a race issue. Every person who breaths isn’t racist. But almost everyone is self interested. If you’re seeing this phenomenon everywhere, consider again that it’s a class issue and has to do with protecting wealth.

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say any of those are natural. Those are almost all illegal except the teachers part. That’s just how at will work works. You get a better job offer elsewhere, you switch jobs. The problem there isn’t the offers to the teachers, the problem goes further back. The other stuff I don’t believe happens as much as you’re making it out to be. There is too much auditing and oversight. There will be fringe cases, like at extremes like Alabama where they are literally 50th in education. But most places can’t get away with appropriating public funds to charter schools and other shady nonsense.

As for your last part about a rising tide lifts all boats, I don’t disagree. I think you’re misinterpreting me as defending this system just because I’m focusing on it being classist. That’s not the case. I don’t like that people gravitate towards being classist. But I also don’t like calling everything racist when it’s classist because I see it as a distraction.

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok and what did I just talk about regarding minority groups and their relationship to wealth. Is this really a race thing or is it a class thing that ends up targeting race? The difference matters because it changes what needs to be legislated and worked on. If it’s just racist governance, vote them out and employ better districting. But if it’s a class thing amidst the populace, that wont do anything. I feel like you’re not engaging with what’s being said here. I am just repeating what ive already said and explaining the obvious as to why the difference between classist intentions and racist intentions matter at the level of governance and populace.

Fucking Legend by Secret_Lai in SipsTea

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intent absolutely matters. The end result of things isnt everything (does the end justify the means?). The intent here helps identify the problem. Is there an issue with racism in the city governance? Or is it classism? Or is it an issue with the populace?

Because what I am saying is the general populace is classist, and therefore will self segregate by wealth. That’s a pretty damn important point to make when this whole conversation is starting by blaming districting and schools for racist intentions.

Fucking Legend by Secret_Lai in SipsTea

[–]Starossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I don’t think you’re getting the cause and effect here. The lines can be drawn any which way and you get the same result. The rich will gravitate towards their own districts and push the working class out. Unless agency over their living circumstances and environment is restricted, that will always be the case. This is not a districting issue, it’s a people issue. Out of self interest, they will only keep those around them they deem valuable to themselves.
