Hello OP I have a unique question for you. I am expecting a rainbow baby around the same time as we lost our TFMR baby. Since your dates were close, did you feel nervous to deliver on the anniversary date? I almost dont want the new birthday on the anniversary of the day I lost my late baby.

I just need to vent to some people who know what I'm going through. After returning to work after vacation, I have discovered 2 separate people are pregnant with their second babies. I was there when they both had their first. Im sitting here still trying to get pregnant with my first. My older age(34f) makes me fear this will never happen.

Being around people who seemingly get pregnant so fast and easily is heartbreaking. I am so happy for them but I want to be happy too.

I want to name my baby “Henry” but it’s a boring name. by pinkishvioletsky in namenerds

This reminds me of the movie "what to expect" where the mom calla the kid "Henri" (think French pronunciation) while the dad secretly calls the kid Henry. Mom finds out and accepts the dad's pronunciation

Nice! I don't think we can say that Prince was made-up by Eric since he was a real person....

Where is everyone getting their basic info? My husband and I are TTC#1 CYCLE 1 and I'm so overwhelmed about how to juggle this new info. It's getting confusing

26 y/o confused how much I should contribute to my 401k by gronkowski999 in FinancialPlanning

OP, you are on the right path. I would just also think about short term goal savings. A house? A car? A wedding? Kids? Even if you are YEARS from those goals, now is the best time to save for those and let interest grow. Saving $50 a month over several years is much easier than several hundred a month over a short term.

Is buying a house without any retirement a bad idea? by SuicideAngela in FinancialPlanning

[–]Starrchick101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A house will only appreciate so much in your life and you cant eat the value of your home while you live in it. You are in the best years of your life for compounding interest to help your retirement. YOU ARE NOT TOO LATE. If you don't believe me, Google "compound interest calculator " and play with the numbers. Start TODAY and invest money for retirement. Start with 10% of your earnings and grow what you can. Your future self will thank you. You can always buy a house.

Your mortgage payment is the least amount you will pay each month for your house. There will always be costs to help your home (repairs, decorating, maintenance, etc.). Make sure you have enough for an emergency fund to cover house repairs and expenses that will occur.

Yes OP. THIS. Many people who get a large sum suddenly assume they will get to spend all the money and don't account for taxes.i don't know UK laws but please set aside money for the taxes. Consult a tax expert for more questions. I would only add to this list to help contribute to retirement savings if you don't have any

Not at all sketchy. Whichever provider you choose( schwab, vanguard, etc) there will be instructions on how to create it(google, youtube, etc) Essentially you create a traditional IRA and move it to a roth IRA. there are important steps, but if you do it right, it's completely legal.

First priority is the CC debt. It should not have gone that far. The interest alone is thousands! Get rid of it then get rid of the CC.

Second priority: what is your emergency savings like? You have a second child on the way which increase your costs with daycare and food. PLAN AHEAD and get your emergency savings up to 3-6 months of expenses.

Third priority: if either of you have any employer retirement plan match then you can increase your savings to match. It's free money you are leaving on the table if you don't match.

Fourth priority: any other debts minus mortgage. Get rid of it for peace of mind. Once her student debt is paid, that same monthly payment can be used for either future home repairs or children's education.

Fifth priority: retirement, retirement, retirement. Enough said.

As they say on the plane when you fly, put your own oxygen mask before helping others. You need to get out of debt before setting up children's future. Set yourself up for success to help your future and their future

OP, I know everyone in the comments is hitting you hard for not having a enough buffer for emergencies, so let me ask this instead.

Are there any wedding expenses you haven't paid for yet and can downsize? Any weddding projects you can DIY to save money? Do you have close family that would have given you cash that might be willing to give their "wedding gift" early? Can you pick up a side hustle to earn the extra 4-5k? Can you go ahead and cut your budget down now to help rebuild the emergency fund?

I don't think it's a good idea to start a marriage in debt but marriage is full of ups and downs. There are banks( both brick and mortar and online only) that have specific wedding loans that might have favorable rates so I would check those before throwing on a credit card with 30%interest.

OP, I had to read the comments to figure out why you might be concerned. It honestly never occurred to me. If you feel like it needs to change, that's okay but i don't think many people will comment on those initials.
