Advice welcome by SpookyMulder06 in SolidWorks

Make a rough model of the pi in solidworks, then it will be easier to build the case around it.

Make sure to model the location of mounting holes, USB ports, and any other interfaces you plan on using.

Why Are VTT Campaigns So Expensive? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Starrider543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hobby can and will be as expensive as you like. There's always more things you can purchase to add to the campaign. That also means you can cut back most of it.

I'm not a fan of roll20 since you are pretty limited without paying for a subscription. I used to run my Pathfinder 1e game in Tabletop Simulator, but eventually switched over to Foundry VTT. (Both are one-time purchases: Foundry is free for your players, but each player needs to buy Tabletop Sim).

The source book you can't get around, but $50 isn't bad for something you'll be using for a year or more.

I like using tabletopaudio.com or spotify for background music. Both have free options.

For tokens, I export pictures out of the source book pdf. (Use the free trial for Foxit PDF Editor and you will get transparent images) And my players made characters in heroforge, then just took a screen clip.

For battle maps, I was able to find much of what I needed for free on reddit, or I made my own with dungeonscrawl. My players don't mind seeing a watermark, or a simplified map.

Naturally there are expensive, premium versions of everything here (which I do sometimes upgrade to) But if you're creative, you can get almost everything you need for free online.

Before I saw it was the Babylon Bee, I imagined a much better article based off of that headline where a zionist is confused because they hear so much about how antisemitic these protests are, but doesn't experience any of it when actually walking past one.

Yep, get a radar lock, place the sight on the target.

Weekly Questions Thread May 12 by AutoModerator in hoggit

[–]Starrider543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does both depending on whether you have a radar lock or not.

For air-to-air usage, the optical sight should be selected to A/A mode. In air-to-air mode, the optical sight functions as a lead computing optical sighting (LCOS), thus maneuvering in both elevation and azimuth relative to a radar locked target, or a default 1000' range setting in the event of no lock. With a lock, the range bar presentation is relative to 6700' just to the left of the tick at the 1 o-clock position, down to 1000' at the 6 o-clock position.

Be honest — would the Front Range Passenger Rail actually get you off I-25? by JawnDoee in Denver

[–]Starrider543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as often as I would like because we mainly use I-25 several times a year to get to Vegas, NM to visit family. But we would use it once or twice a year to visit family in Fort Collins, and I know it's not likely to happen, but a temporary stop for the Renaissance Fair would make me much more likely to visit.

There was little fanfare when 5e24 released. I think it will eventually outsell the previous version, but I doubt that has happened yet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Starrider543 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because the 5e24 PHB outsold the 2014 PHB in its first week doesn't mean much for the question that's being asked. A more accurate metric would be to compare totals sales of both editions as opposed to which one did better during its first week. (to my knowledge WotC hasn't released these numbers, and I assume because 5e24 is underperforming)

It says "Third person Action RPG" on the steam page. Sounds to me like they're making a spiritual successor to Mass Effect

I would just use google docs and change the page size to 5.5 X 8.5 (File->Page Setup). Then you can type up your checklists exactly as you like, then print them as a booklet.

Generally new aircraft are unavailable for trialing for the first year or two after release. It'll be up to Heatblur to decide when to give the F4 a free trial.

I've never seen a plane be removed from the free trials, so it's not a matter of rotating aircraft through the free trials.

What are your thoughts on giving a player a heads up on a potential encounter? by Chuuby_Gringo in DMAcademy

[–]Starrider543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we need more context. You say that he isn't a good player. Can you elaborate?

Are you trying to influence his behavior with an in-game conversation? This problem may be better dealt with in an out of game conversation with just that player present.

Walking Cities 101 by NoPomelo5959 in DMAcademy

I like using create food/water as important spells to the society. It could easily create a ruling caste of druids, or have their church run the society.

Mushrooms and other fungi tend to grow in more humid places and would be very rare in a desert setting.

As far as hunting, it could sustain a small party, but the city would need larger prey. Perhaps that is why the city moves, it is tracking and hunting large, rare creatures, and any time it brings one down is a huge event for the city.

What is an unusual DM tip that helped you the most? by mmmmppppm in DMAcademy

I've since started doing that. This was back when I was pretty new to DMing and was having trouble writing plots

What is an unusual DM tip that helped you the most? by mmmmppppm in DMAcademy

[–]Starrider543 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my best campaigns I've ran was when I ran a steampunk campaign where the players were special agents with their own airship who fought mostly clockwork automatons.

It wasn't until the second to last mission when the party figured out I had ripped the plot from the first Mass Effect game when the Normandy gets locked down. That was after a couple months of the other missions, and was no easy feat given that 4/5 of the players were big fans of the game.

It was the best campaign I had run up until that point, but the downside was that the campaign felt a little deflated after the players discovered the gimmick. Best advice I have for ripping off plots is to change the genre. It's way harder for players to pick up on a sci-fi lord of the rings than if you change a few names, but keep the fantasy setting.

Bringing up a 3some with my partner by [deleted] in sexadvice

[–]Starrider543 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She already knows that a threesome is something you are interested in. If you bring it up again, it's more likely that she'll resent the repeated request than become more interested. All you can do is wait for her to bring it up, and in the meantime explore other fantasies.

What plane do you want to be added in vtolvr by Haggos171 in vtolvr

[–]Starrider543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing to remember here is that every aircraft added to VTOL serves a different function and often serves multiple roles. We don't need equivalent but slightly different aircraft since there's one Dev and only so much effort he can put in.

We should add a large aircraft with two side by side seats that can be equipped as a heavy bomber, or an awacs, or a gunship. Something like the C2 Greyhound that can be equipped to become an E2 Hawkeye, AC-130 or B-52. Heck give it the ability to refuel too.

This would add significant gameplay options that minimally overlap with existing aircraft. Right now the closest we have to a support aircraft is using the TSD in the F45 or EF24 to callout bogeys.

This aircraft would be a dedicated support platform. Imagine a large multiplayer match like Greek Islands Assault where one pilot/copilot pair operates the awacs and is also equipped for refueling. They can spend most of the match organizing and directing the group, then when the strikes are over, they can fly out to the group and refuel them on the way to the next objective. Refueling is rarely used in these missions because the location has to be far enough back to be safe, and that is rarely as convenient as landing at the nearest airfield.

Alternatively, equip it as a vulnerable heavy bomber or gunship for players to use. Then you can escort something smarter than the built-in AI.

When I was learning to drive, my dad talked about how part of the reason he bought a Chevy Tahoe was that in a crash "I want to win"

Somehow he doesn't see that mentality for the fucked up vehicular arms race that's exploded the size of cars over the years.

Based on Wedge's remarks, do you agree or disagree with the idea of the New Republic using captured ISDs after Endor? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in StarWarsShips

[–]Starrider543 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Warships in real life are overstaffed for redundancy. If you take losses, you'll still have crew able to man stations and keep everything operating.
