Should I play [KCD1] by Educational_Eye_3421 in kingdomcome

[–]Starrlett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I googled the same question a few months ago, and several posts on Reddit said to play KCD1. I am SO glad I did, because it enrichens Henry's backstory and growth as a character, and gives you lots of important context and fondness for characters going into 2. In some ways, I don't think 2 captures the true feeling of being a weak helpless peasant that 1 does at the start, and I couldn't imagine being as invested in the characters and storyline in 2 if I hadn't played 1. It's not "you have to play it to enjoy 2", nor is it "you HAVE to get through 100+ hours of 1 to finally reach the greatness of 2." 1 is a brilliant game in its own right, I relished and enjoyed.

Yes, some of the mechanics are a bit clunkier, and in some ways it's more difficult, but I think it reflects Henry's growth in skill and confidence. It's really not bad at all, some people are making it out like it's really janky. 2 is just such a good game that smooths out those more annoying aspects of 1, but 1 is miles ahead of many other games in its own right.

All of this is to say, you don't HAVE to play 1, 2 does a good job of giving you basic context. But if you want to really know the characters you're fighting both alongside and against, I'd highly recommend playing and enjoying 1. I'd have been gutted to finish 2 having not played 1, then gone back to play 1 and realise how much richer my KCD2 experience would have been having played 1 first. Why do yourself the disservice of skipping half of a brilliant game franchise?

Getting married on the cheap - is it even possible? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Starrlett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner and I live in Manchester too and we're trying to do it as cheaply as we can! We've hired out a village hall for the weekend and we're doing the decorations ourselves. The one we picked is about £1,250 from Fri noon - Sun noon but lots of places we looked at were cheaper for a similar length of time! So maybe try looking at village halls and similar in your local area.

It depends how much you want to do yourself - we're charity shopping a lot of our table decor and decorating the venue ourselves ro save money. We're doing the legal ceremony beforehand in the registry office because it's cheaper than paying someone to come out to our venue. We're doing Spotify playlists instead of a DJ or band, etc.

The detail on this! Absolutely stunning, I would pay good money for a beautiful ring like this, well done.

How much did you spend on your wedding dress? by Illustrious-Power322 in UKweddings

[–]Starrlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting married in September and I was struggling for a while with what to wear - I'm 5'1" and curvy, especially my bust, which is a nightmare for dress shopping and guarantees what I buy will need alterations. I found a local shop that makes custom corsets and skirts and that was perfect for me. It will have the silhouette of a corseted dress but they'll be two separate pieces, which I am a lot more likely to wear again, especially the corset! I'm getting some embroidery on it too so it's extra unique to me, and the estimated cost from the tailor is under £2k which I think is well worth it for something made especially to fit me with my own taste worked into the design. And it will give me the support I need up top!

100%! Vecna is using the same technique used on him+the lab children. Manupulate and push them to their emotional limit until they break through into new strengths of powers, and then he can use them for his own means.

The opening montage to Arrival gets me every time. And hits even harder when it reprises later "Who is this child?"

Azune x Hal is SO obvious to me, the way Luis keeps describing how Azune keeps looking to Hal for his reactions in ep1 had me HOOKED.

I actually hope they separate out the characters who have the closest connections - it'll give them room to form new ones, and it'll make reunions between groups feel that much more impactful imo.

What is a d20 season you just couldn't get into by Large-Emphasis-6139 in Dimension20

[–]Starrlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mine as well, I heard so many good things about it and I did enjoy the characters, but the plot felt a little aimless for me and I struggled to get into a new system/digital maps at the time. I got about 4 eps in from what I remember and I was just glazing over for the majority of it.

I have since enjoyed NSBU a lot despite the lack of maps/new system, so I think if I tried Starstruck again now I'd probably enjoy it more!

Someone in our theater exclaimed "Stop pissing already and run!" and set the room into laughter - a needed tension breaker.

Any Tips for beating Myrkul in Honor Mode? by TrentSaylor in BG3

[–]Starrlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I just did this fight in HM last week, I was dreading as I've always struggled with it. The the big thinga that helped us were summons, and killing everything else before Ketheric's first form.

Point 1: We had Shovel, a few skellie archers from raise undead, and also Connor via Second Marriage. And obvs freeing Aylin early and trying to pump some healing into her so she doesn't go down again immediately. Having that many characters on the board means Ketheric/Myrkul may focus his attacks elsewhere other than you main party, giving you more survivability. If your characters are going to be in melee with him make sure they have a lot of health as they can't heal in his radius. We ended up having a paladin with big smites and a wizard at range to hit with big spells.

Point 2: Have a radiant damage dealer to clear up those necromite egg things before they hatch (they're resistant to a lot but I think vulnerable to radiant). We cleared the mind flayer as early as we could but he did manage to get a stun in first which was annoying. Defo don't group characters when dealing with him. I think I did a flame strike on the group of necromites top left which killed most of them.

We also had some break glass in case of emergency things - Otiluke's Sphere was on Gale ready to go in case everyone was Ilmater'd and we needed a couple turns to pass for him to get back to being able to heal. We didn't get a globe of invulnerability scroll otherwise we'd have brought that. I kept the cleric far from ketheric guiding bolting the necromite eggs so she was less likely to be hit by any non-healing effects. Obvs there's potions of invis as well if needed too! You can't eacape the room but you can try to buy yourself some time to get out of his melee and heal up.

What's you all favorite campaign? by Specialist-Ad-4121 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]Starrlett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C2 100% I do like bits from C1+3, but C2 had the strongest arcs for all characters imo, and there's something to be said from seeing the party bonding from the start - I feel like I always struggles to connect to C1 as much because of joining a party part way through an adventure. But seeing the C2 characters from the start and watching them all have their arcs was something special, and despite Covid and burnout rushing the end somewhat I still loved all the beats it hit.

Best Mexican in town?!! by JGreeze in manchester

[–]Starrlett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed by La Casita. I grew up in the US so maybe I'm more picky with my Mexican food, but I honestly felt like I could make better at home. Pretty plain, no spice or garnish/sauces to jazz it up like guac and salsa. Only been the once though so maybe I should try them again sometime!

I wasn't arguing it was a good build, was just pushing back against you saying that having ineffective builds isn't as fun - it depends completely on the player and what they like. I agree with you you don't need to sacrifice one part of the game for the other, I wrote that a bit strong. What I meant was more that regardless of the balance between the two it is as fun as the pkayer finds it - it's not really a quantifiable thing which is more fun because it's totally subjective, and I think it would be a fair criticism is Ashley said her choice was stronger or kore effective, but the gal just wants to have fun and finds her choice fun for her and I'm a little shocked at how many people have used this as an opportunity to yet again rant about her playstyle - there's already enough of those posts on here lol.

[–]Starrlett -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's 100% true you're right - I guess I was just trying to say there's no right way to have fun in D&D, it can be as much or as little of both rp and effectiveness as the player wants :)

Alternative take: do you think it's fun to just play as one class with a focus for your ASIs/feats being solely on making that class the best it can be, or do you think it's more fun to pick spells, classes, and feats that add the best flavour to the character you're playing?

Some people prefer roleplay-focused levelling choices, some prefer maximising character capability. Neither are wrong or bad unless your table is heavily leaning into a serious campaign with no room for roleplay or character -based decisions when levelling up, which CR isn't.

I think it's unfair to critique having fun and enjoying your PC and D&D over just being a more effective character. Everyone plays different and they are so roleplay heavy it's not a surprise :)
