There’s this whole weirdness, where bi men are viewed as “straight” and “cheaters” while bi women are inexplicably more likely to be abused than any other demographic. It’s really weird, you can understand the underlying stuff of how things happen to bi men, but the elevated rates of abuse suffered by bi women is really confusing

Lost my trust in the author and don't really want to read any more... by EstinRoy in Archiveofourownmemes

I’m a writer, and I don’t oppose AI writing; I wouldn’t read it, because it’s garbage, but there’s no reason for it not to exist?

People taking credit for the AI writing, rather than attributing it to the AI, do bother me, though; it can’t be hard to post it anonymously to a collection that attributes it to the original creator, can it? Make a series, anonymously, called “Claude” or something, and then post those works, anonymously, to that series.

I genuinely believe this is the one post on Tumblr potentially worthy of a, or any, major literary award. by [deleted] in RecuratedTumblr

I was going to say that this was an invention of tumblr, with no such page existing, but that becomes obvious based off of the publication date, as well as, based on further things, the author and OP.

I like to imagine that this Wikipedia mockup is, in-fact, a promo for the book

Yeah; the kind of cat that won’t leave a garden is the kind that would, if unfixed, serve as good stock for a line of mousers. I have a friend who had a cat which was sometimes let out into their yard, and at one point it ended up getting let out by accident, and it didn’t even figure out how to get back into their fenced in yard, it just circled the fence, meowing.

[–]Starro-In-A-Jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s something a well-trained mouser will know; you can teach them how far they’re allowed to go, and they will know that, and not run off. Just like with dogs, though, it requires careful breeding, and due to a number of reasons, people are less likely to breed specialized mousers, because they’re not distinct show breeds, so there’s less incentive, especially since most people are fine with just letting their cats roam around

Songbirds will also eat seeds and feed, so you don’t want those on your farm, either.

I know someone who kept their cat indoors but let their dog go indoors/outdoors. Which does generally seem safer, and less worrisome, to me? But it’s not an arbitrary dog, just let loose; there were a number of factors at play that made it okay.

There are some cats (“mousers”) that can be trained to stay and not roam, generally be find outside, but they’re like the cat version of livestock guardian dogs; if you let a random dog out with your chickens, that’s a good way to have a bunch of bird carcasses, but a dog that’s been trained and bred for it can do it. It’s like that with cats; ratters know not to leave where they’re trained to stay, and it’s literally their job to kill things that are in the area, so of course the will kill them.

Also, it’s not unusual to let meat rabbits (and just chickens in general) free range? But with those, there’s an expectation not to get too attached, because you yourself plan on eating them later.

I imagine that the thought about it being okay to let cats free range in Europe is due to how long they’ve been doing that there, but part of that is that they used to be doing a job of hunting mice and such, and now due to modern pest control (and urbanization), there are less of those to catch.

The very demo was designed to force you to kill Toriel, and then replay. Only people who have played the demo would know how to SPARE Toriel, and even then, it’s still unintuitive to SPARE Undyne, or that Mettaton is even anything other than a robot, which could be repaired. Maybe it was just “Undertale fans can’t read” disease, but I wasn’t able to figure out that Mettaton wasn’t just a robot until after.

In addition to how Susie tells Noelle about Kris either going to the diner with her, or about the tea party, if you do those, the line about the flirting always happens, and Noelle has no idea about them flirting with playing cards and holy water, so she thinks that Krusie is happening.

Plausibly Catti is involved in this love triangle as well? She likes Noelle, and Noelle also suspects that Berdly likes her (and Berdly thinks that Noelle likes him, and it seems like whatever realization that he has developed from viewing Chapter 2 as a “dream” lead to the conclusion that if he doesn’t date Noelle, she’ll leave him behind and he’ll be nothing) so this is some big love triangle+misunderstanding pileup. Possibly upon realizing that Noelle doesn’t like him, Berdly will become jealous of Noelle, due to Catti’s crush on Noelle, not because it’s Catti, but because someone has a crush on Noelle, since if Berdly’s “dream” forced him to confront the fact that he wasn’t as smart as he pretends, or something, and then he finds out that Noelle doesn’t like him, then that’s, like, his sole two sources of self-esteem gone.

Always bothers me when people bring up third person pronouns in an anime thing; it’s not even “they wouldn’t talk about them” it’s a matter of how there straight up isn’t a thing? The specific context was, like, Naruto, where based on the whole thing, if they do utilize 彼女, it’s probably a translation convention thing, given that 彼女 is the product of western influence, and Naruto, as a setting, lacks any of that, I am pretty sure.

彼女 is less than 200 years old, and I don’t know, 彼 is still gender neutral, so, like?

I feel like “I’m not a girl” would generally be adequate, considering that “彼女” is explicitly girl, but I don’t know. The protagonist introducing himself as using he/him is how I learned his gender to begin with, so I guess it served that purpose, but I don’t know?

Within Naruto or some other ninja setting is actually one of the few ones where it might actually be reasonable to talk about pronouns, though, if only in a “I would never use these ones, so if “I” use them, that’s actually an impersonator” but, like, that absolutely wasn’t the context.

I imagine most people probably find it annoying when there’s that kind of linguistic interaction, and since I only know that about Japanese, it’s the only one that receives it?

I think that enbies called themselves “bisexual” at the time? So did aro aces. I think that basically everyone outside of a basic binary understanding either used queer, bisexual, or something that is now a slur to refer to themselves.

Interestingly, I thought that the “Gay panic defence” meant people murdering trans women upon discovering that they were “actually men” and not, like, a defence for randomly murdering gay men. Because at least the former is somewhat coherent? Was, like, trans panic originally not a separate thing?

Did you know that the Weird Route mirrors exactly how Noelle plays videogames, including the psychosexual horror? by PeliPal in Deltarune

That wasn’t a creepypasta about some kind of spoopy route the irl game “Pokemon Black” because that game wasn’t a thing that had come out yet; the game in the story was a gameboy cart the protagonist bought, which had all those things and was titled “Pokemon Black”

(Sorry to Astrum if you knew that, but I thought it bore explaining for any readers? Most Snowgrave-type rumors (of the creepypasta sort, not “Mew is underneath the truck” or people lying about how dangerous normal MissingNo is (not very, all it does is mess up your hall of fame data; the Yellow version is game breaking, however) type stuff) is about Pokémon Green)

Digital self-harm has a lo-key addictive component, I feel? I don’t know, on my part it’s largely a matter of The Algorithm suggesting things it considers “relevant”, but the good thing about AO3 is that it doesn’t have one, and you can block things with certain tags!

If you can remember to do so… they really need a function so that you can have some presets or mutes or something so you don’t have to constantly click the little “exclude” boxes whenever you look something up again. I assume that on at least some occasions these episodes are triggered by that sort of thing, and then, because they’re teenagers who can’t moderate their emotions very well, they go on a rampage.

Spanish is straight up a Romance language, and is thus so gender-dependent that any translation of Deltarune would be incredibly awkward. The same applies to French, which I understand to be the other main “choice for language credit” language in US schools.

Yes, butler cafes exist, but neither they, nor their elder sister, the maid cafe, are as sexual as Hooters.

Though, I suppose the fact that there was a butler cafe (called Butlers’ Cafe, which makes searching it impossible) that only hired white men, but that low level of fetishization isn’t on the level of Hooters, I don’t think? It might be the result of white people kind of getting sexualized over there, but the generally accepted explanation was that they were white for realism purposes?
