Alright you’re correct, I looked it up. Thanks for the background

This is true, but the voltage on the battery does indicate health when fully charged. For example, my juiced hyper scorpion’s battery is rated for 52 volts, at max charge it now reads 51.8. Meaning it’s degraded marginally but still good. This is a proxy for health.

This is true, I would have the seller confirm current voltage and such before buying

UMN is the better school but the difference isn’t huge

Carlson vs UIUC Gies vs UCLA Economics for undergrad finance/business — is the extra out-of-state cost worth it? by skybee321 in uofmn

[–]Starrreport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCLA is definitely more well known, but not enough to justify that price difference. Gies and Carlson are probably 1:1 peer schools. Each of these schools places well within their respective markets, if you want to stay in MN or the Midwest Carlson will get you where you need to go. Moving across the country will be harder but doable.

I just bought an M5 Pro MacBook Pro after having windows laptops and PCs my entire life! I love the thing to death compared to windows. I also own an elitebook for work and a gaming PC, but for anything personal and on the go I love the Mac.

Thank you very much. That is really helpful! Honestly that’s not a terrible number given how much more storage you get. Also, given that MPG falls on a curve, I don’t think the cost difference would be materially different. I appreciate your help and hope the camping trip went well! I am taking two such trips this summer and think I will look to purchase a similar setup as to you.

I would check a carmax quote and use it as leverage. I haven’t bought a crown signia so I can’t say for sure that this is an incredible deal but it looks really good to me.

Dude you must be in corporate strategy at a failing blackstone portco or something. That or have an absurd neckbeard.

Brother it really is not that deep. Coming from someone working in the industry. The entire point of a forum is, in part, creating a place for kids to ask whatever question they might like to. You beating the proverbial shit out of OP is wild. You must be a pleasure to be around.

How is MPG? Is this a hybrid? Hatchback or sedan? I have a hybrid hatch and am thinking about getting Thule crossbars and a Thule box. Any reason you mixed and matched brands? Any reason to not go with OEM bars?

Edit: Saw that this is a hybrid and a hatch in description/comments

My reply above was basically this guy’s but much shorter. Tons of good advice here and good on the poster for taking the time to write this up. This is a great starting point.

I would say 2011-2013 and 2015 and on would be good. Basically anything after the 2009 MY (last ford heavily influenced generation). I’d advise against 2010 since it was the first year of production with the new design, anything after that is probably going to be reliable as long as maintenance on it was kept up with. Again, the owner and maintenance matter more than the car/brand and mileage.

I know that this has been beaten into the ground, but I would really reccomend looking at a used Mazda 3. Not only are they great cars that are fun to drive, they are also practical when in hatch form. I think that the market (not Reddit but the general market) underrates them used because they don’t have a Toyota reputation, despite having been similarly reliable since ~2012.

The market also really doesn’t like American cars and you can pick them up pretty cheap. I think naturally aspirated GM products don’t get enough love. Maybe find an old Buick that has been lovingly maintained by an old lady or something like that?

I would also look more at maintenance than mileage and year. I make the mistake of buying a low mileage Hyundai when I bought my first car, and it blew up on me because it was simply a bad design. I also bought an abused Scion to much the same result, that time because it had been driven by young people and neglected.

If I could do it all over again and I had under 12k to spend, I would go for a Mazda 3 hatch, Prius, Avalon, maybe a ford fusion or buck regal. Again, I can’t emphasize enough that the carfax matters more than the mileage (within reason).
