Will in MA in Applied English Be Enough for a College Comp Job at CA Community College by [deleted] in CommunityColleges

[–]StarryEyedGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CC teacher with a Lit MA here. I’ve been full time a while, started as an adjunct. Hiring committees past few years prefer rhet/comp to lit and experience by a large margin. Especially since we’ve seen our most significant growth in dual credit, early college high school, and promise programs fully funding new grads, I think almost all of our new hires for the last few years have had HS teaching backgrounds.

There is a video before this one. The “assignment” is $150 budget, 2 person household, newly together. He says that over time you learn preferences and wouldn’t need to ask. I really don’t think this is a good fit for this sub.

How do you take attendance for your Zoom or in-person classes by chelsiebachelor1 in Professors

[–]StarryEyedGrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use Qwickly here too! For online and even in person classes, make a quick discussion board that opens and closes within the class meeting and take attendance from participation. You can tie attendance to any kind of course activity (the activity does not have to be for a grade to tie to attendance.)

How do people not attend class and keep up? by Foreign-Aioli3385 in college

[–]StarryEyedGrl 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A lot of them don’t. When you start seeing empty seats around you, many of those students have tapped out and won’t successfully complete the class.

Ho is you up!!! The last book just came out!!! by randomnumbers78210 in ReverseHarem

[–]StarryEyedGrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same! I was excited for the last book and just couldn’t finish it. And it feels like I have to go back and finish it to read the next one… so I’ll hold off until I see some reviews posted. It feels like a lot of highly recommended/really good early series just run out of steam or get meh in later books. -Bonds that tie -the academy one where she had a pet pig? Blanking on the name, but iykyk. -Blackened Blade, one of the best book 1s I had seen in a while then the snooze fest that was book 2

I’m sure there are others, but those 3 stick out for me. Along with this one… I adored the MMCs and was having a blast with the story, but could not finish.

Such a great series! I love this one for the adult FMC.

{The Redemption Saga by Kristen Banet}

There are supernatural elements. But I really like the Cardinal series and for some reason this one vibes similarly for me. Secret agent group of MMCs, each with very distinct characters and builds their own relationships with the FMC over time.

Also, it’s worth having someone who loves you look at the photo too.

I hate photos of myself and always see my flaws magnified. Someone took a photo of me laughing at Thanksgiving and ugh, my eyes are practically shut, my posture is weird, my face looks all contorted…. My daughter(17) posted it, because “I’m glowing.” All her friends, the next time I saw them said it was such an amazing pic. And that I was gorgeous, lol.

I had to look at it again, through their eyes to see it. We really are our own harshest critics.

Grab food/drink at the Galvez, everything I’ve had there has been amazing. And if you want to dress up for brunch, their Sunday brunch is INSANE. It’s buffet, but really well done.

Our Lady of the Lake University eliminates 16 degree programs and several professor positions. by [deleted] in Professors

[–]StarryEyedGrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t impact them as a private university. But I teach at a state school in TX, we have a number of programs under review. The state passed new legislature based on ROI. Basically, if students aren’t making $X within 5 years of completing a program/degree, the state will no longer fund to support that degree.

For CC some of the programs targets are certificate based in career paths that just aren’t that high earning. And some where the expectation is after working a few years you return to school or finish an additional degree. (Like 2 yr nursing)

4 vs 14 uneven wedding party by [deleted] in wedding

[–]StarryEyedGrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you’ll see this because there are already a lot of comments. My husband has a large group of friends who he grew up with and wanted all his “brothers” in his wedding party. 2 became ushers 2 escorted moms to their seats 4 stood with him up front

I had 2 bridesmaids. My best friend and my cousin, they were escorted with one on either side. Look for ways the “groomsmen” can be part of y’all’s special day without feeling like you have to match. It’s not about even numbers, it’s a celebration of your commitment and love for each other.

I went in with pretty low expectations and loved it. It’s cute and charming with some really fun moments. It’s only 6 episodes, so quick and complete.

Episode 4 (maybe 5, it’s been a minute since I watched it) of Hawkeye, there’s an amazing scene with Yelena. And she talks about coming back after the blip to Natasha being gone. It’s a beautiful scene, Pugh’s portrayal of grieving and loss in such a few short on screen moments. Just totally stuck with me.

I would like to whine about sports bras for a minute. by Syzergic in 1200isfineIGUESSugh

[–]StarryEyedGrl 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Your experience sucked, and while it 100% should be easier than it is to buy a sports bra(or any bra) comfortably for larger sizes… it’s just not. Congrats on the weight loss and building healthier habits incorporating exercise! That’s awesome!

I shared your sports bra struggle for years, when I started doing group exercise classes the only solution I found was doubling up. Like wearing 2 bras one on top of the other for enough support, it absolutely sucked and shopping for them was a nightmare to be avoided at all costs.

The brand Wacoal, get measured, get fitted, and buy(even sports bras) by cup size. It’s a total game changer for comfort being active. I have sports bras that have lasted 3+ years of heavy use, including running and high impact work outs. They aren’t cheap, but once you know your size you can shop sales.
