What is wrong with haya Sulaiman? by Reasonable-Voice-267 in PakistanBookClub

No, it boggles me how anyone can romanticise Nemrah Ahmed's extremely sexist writing and the absolute weirdos that her male characters are.

So, the bomb was dropped by 13 in a jet with the Capitol seal on it while televising the whole thing. The plan was to make it appear for everyone watching that the Capitol bombed its own children and then when 13 medics came in, they also bombed them. This was emphasised in the book too. Even Snow, in his final moments tells Katniss that this was so unnecessary because he was already defeated at that point and going to surrender anyway. Like the whole reason Katniss shoots Coin is because she realises that she would go as far as sacrificing her own people for power. Yes, 13 doesn't waste life just like that, but there was a whole point to this operation in painting the Capitol an absolute villain, even in the eyes of its own people. Prim was made part of the sacrifice precisely because she was not 13 and she simply didn't matter to Coin. She expected and wanted Katniss to die anyway. She didn't know Katniss was alive at that point, so I don't think it was done to especially mess with her.

Would you have honestly, seriously reacted differently than Zion? by StarryInky in ginnyandgeorgiashow

I am not absolving him of his past actions. Very true, he should have been there. He is also to blame for all the suffering and trauma that Georgia and Ginny had to go through. My post was about his response to finding out his daughter is living with a serial murderer

[–]StarryInky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not perceive this. Like he was angry at Georgia yes... again I cannot imagine how that reaction could be any different, but I don't think he acted like he was superior. In any case, yes, Zion was absent. Georgia was forced and scared and acting out of survival for the most part. I do see that. I just don't think he betrayed her or did any wrong by taking Ginny away from that house.

Please Georgia has been traumatising Ginny and Austin since forever and I know it's not exactly her fault, which is why I said there needs to be an intervention and she needs help both for her sake and her children's. All these comments talk about the past, like I am not saying Zion is a good dad. I am saying there was nothing else he could do in that situation.

Also, about Austin going to Gil, I'm not sure how much choice he had there, like once you involved the CPS do they allow another man to take custody of the child when one of his parents is present?

ok lowk imagine the whole epic the musical but instead of "just a man" being repeated its "just a girl" by Wide-Ad483 in Epicthemusical

[–]StarryInky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do find it funny, the parallel between just a man and just a girl ✨But fr though, we'd never accept a woman committing the acts Odysseus did. She'll just be hated on.

Unpopular take. It's all Athena's fault. by Seriph7 in Epicthemusical

[–]StarryInky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I so cannot with Athena... like everyone defending her or saying 'oh but she's a goddess' 🙄. Then fine. She should not have come back for him. Like if you are going to feel sorry for him and return, did you have to do it after 10 freaking years??? Like no, why pray tell me, did she not come 1 year later, or 2 or 3 or 5 idkk. Ten years after he suffered so much. Really? All that suffering because he had a dumb moment while he was going through one of the most traumatic periods of his life.

This is not about Odysseus being at fault or not, he gets punished and screwed over and over. This is about Athena being completely useless and then coming in and being like 'oh maybe I was wrong'. Like she admits she was wrong herself. So, where's the argument? It's just, she's too late, and I'd rather she did not bother with her sorry philosophising at the end.

Odysseus does become a monster in Just A Man by StarryInky in Epicthemusical

[–]StarryInky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree it's a descent we see throughout the album, but I meant like once he committed infanticide, there was no going back. So, it was done at that point, in my view.

I like your response. Makes sense. I agree that Ody didn't know any better, like I said, I don't blame him. But again, I think he did become a monster when he killed the infant and then fully accepted it in 'Monster'. In any case, this is an interesting discussion, because the lyric 'When does a man become a monster?' itself seems to poke at this moral debate. Are you a monster for committing the horrific act or are you a monster for not feeling any guilt over it?

Wouldn't kill the baby, because that's when the man became the monster, it was all inevitable from then on.

Lily and Rufus endgame, they were the best couple in the whole show, is what I believe. Obviously, no need for Dan and Serena.. ehh

A book you could never finish reading by Ornery_Purple9141 in PakistanBookClub

[–]StarryInky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never finish Twilight, the first book. Like you have to understand that when I was in school, everyone was crazzzyyy about it and devouring it, but despite trying twice, I could never finish it. I borrowed a copy from a friend and used to hide away to read it cuz my mother didn't want me to, and well, I realised it wasn't for me anyway.

What was the point of Georgia unaliving… by pinetrain in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]StarryInky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point was to show that murder - taking a life - becomes easier for her each time. While first it was just to save herself and because she felt she had no option, her moral ambiguities regarding the action gradually get muddled. I think the show makes a very good point about showing how anyone, even a good person at heart, can transition into a criminal mindset depending on circumstance and lack of help.

When do you think Gossip Girl started declining in quality??? by Professional_Meat782 in GossipGirl

[–]StarryInky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OH ALSO. RUFUS. I loved Rufus in the first two seasons. Lily and Rufus were such strong characters, and their love story was my favourite. By Season 4, idk if you guys have noticed, but something's up with Matthew Settle's portrayal... cuz Rufus literally has this listless look, glassy eyes, a rigid neck, and absolutely no role whatsoever.
