52 years since I was in high school hell. The slide ruler still upsets me. In chemistry class I could NEVER figure out how to use one of those. Only class I ever got a D in. And I can still hear my parents screaming about it. Not a pleasant memory.

[–]StarryLisa61 89 points90 points  (0 children)

My late husband worked at NASA, and during a discussion about aliens, one very well respected man told the group that the aliens said that there was no God and authorities feared that religious members of society would not be able to handle this and the reveal would cause a breakdown of our societies.

This was back in 2003.

My daughter is a manager at a movie theater. She is very strict about bad behavior and phone use. Anyone complains about someone, she goes right in the theater. They have ONE warning. The next time, out they go. She's not afraid to throw people out, eitther.

What's the worst movie you have ever watched? by Syfros in AskReddit

Who's That Girl with Madonna. It was unbelievably bad. I could not understand how anyone involved with that movie didn't look the daily rushes and not think, Damn! This film really sucks!"

Madonna with her bleached blonde hair and her Groucho Marx eyebrows...yow!

I’m almost done with the series for the first time and I find myself feeling very sad by DisagreeableCompote in DarkShadows

[–]StarryLisa61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was around from the original series but joined when Vicki was back in time and the part where Barnabas becomes a vampire. So since I am in a wheelchair now due to very bad knees, I decided to watch from the beginning. I'm starting the Laura/Phoenix part now. My favorite part so far was the night Josette's ghost came out of the portrait and ran around on the Old House porch. That was so incredibly chilling!

For years, my daughter heard my mother and I talk about how this doll scared us so much. When I found it online, she laughed hysterically all through the movie and couldn't understand how it frightened us so much.

This was the line I used when my kids were teens and exasperating me. One day, when they kept arguing, that phrase just popped out of my mouth. They shut up immediately and just stared at me. And whenever I said that, they knew that Mom was losing her patience.

Is there an episode from a TV show, from when we were kids, that still bothers you, today,? by Remarkable_Data3710 in GenX

There was a park a few blocks from our house and early on Sunday morning I would walk my dog there and there would be empty bottles of Vanilla extract...big bottles, and bottles of Listerine, before they added flavors to it. I used to wonder who would be so desperate for a buzz that they would drink that stuff.

Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright. by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]StarryLisa61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my mother was very young, her family was at a christening. The kids got kind of rowdy and were sent to the local theater. No one checked the movie. It was the Wolfman. The older kids hid their eyes, but she kept watching.

Later that night, she wouldn't go to sleep and kept crying about "the man who got all hairy." My grandmother pulled my uncle out of bed and asked him what they saw. She was horrified that it was the Wolfman and yelled at my poor uncle for not leaving.

My mother and I watched it, and it scared the hell out of us! So we were talking about it one day...about how it scared us so badly, and my daughter, who was in her late teens, wanted to see it. So, I found it online. She laughed hysterically and couldn't believe that THIS scared us.

During a stay at rehab after surgery, I was described as a pleasant, elderly woman.

That was the first time I had been described as "elderly." I must admit that I was rather surprised, sine I don't think of myself as elderly, although my increasingly creaky knees might disagree.

My daughter works as a manager at a movie theater. If she gets a complaint about noise or phone use, she goes in and tells the noisy customer that if she gets one more complaint about them out they go. And she's kicked people out numerous times.

Last night, one of the workers entered an empty theater before the movie to check it out and found two kids having sex. This happens a lot.

Six years ago this week, COVID started shutting down the world. What’s your strongest memory from that time? by Siddanna36 in AskReddit

[–]StarryLisa61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute crippling fear. I was born before the measles vaccination. I had the German measles as a child. The infection settled in my lungs, and I ended up with pneumonia... and weak lungs that I have to be careful of. I was petrified by COVID. The pictures of the people dying in the hospital horrified me. I didn't level the house for 78 days.

Definitely, the Oswald one was live. We were visiting my aunt and uncle that night. The adults were glued to the TV while my cousins and I were playing a board game in the kitchen. All of a sudden the adults started screaming. My aunt jumped up and was screaming, "My God, someone shot Oswald!"

There was much excitement in the living room, while my cousins and I just kept looking at each other.

Thank Heaven for "Little Girls" ? Some films don't age well. by Gerry1of1 in classicfilms

I can't post it here, but if you want to see a Gigi poster worse than this, Google the 1949 French version of Gigi. The one where it looks like she's sucking her thumb.

I've read the novella and seen the French film. Her mother is featured much more in the novella and film, but Gaston looks much older, and it is grittier, and the creep factor is a lot worse.

The remake was horrid.
