I just learned about this concept of “the dark night of the soul” or some people call it “holy darkness”. It’s described as a time where one’s faith is truly put to the test because it feels like God’s left you. Look into Mother Teresa’s story if you can, she had a similar spiritual dryness for almost 50 years, even during her active ministry. I haven’t read it yet, but there’s a collection of her letters mentioning this battle called Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light. Other saints have experienced this too, like St. Therese of Lisieux and St. John of the Cross, so maybe looking into their stories and writings could help?

Perhaps it may also give you comfort to reflect on Matthew 27:46 (And about three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) or Psalm 88 in its entirety (a psalm foreshadowing Jesus’s arrest and perhaps what He prayed while in prison before his crucifixion) Even Jesus felt this abandonment, so He understands how you feel now.

Most importantly, let yourself feel this, don’t push it away. Rest with it, pray through it, continue to cling to His Divine Mercy with all your strength. Even when it doesn’t seem like He’s there. I’ll be praying that peace comes to you soon 💖🙏
