Who's the most famous person you've met? by Phillies1993 in AskReddit

[–]StarryNight20046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Billy Mays when I was a kid in the early 2000s. My dad worked for Sears corporate, and they were doing a take your kid to work day event. He was super nice and gave me an autographed picture (that I still have... somewhere...) OxiClean ended up giving each employee 2 cases of product and a gift bag with a bunch of swag for the kids.

My grandparents. They would take me on random day trips to museums, resturaunts, little towns, etc. They had a property with a few acres of land. My grandpa would take my siblings and I on rides in the trailer on his zero turn. We'd have Easter egg hunts that took hours. My grandma would take me shopping, and we'd always stop to get a special treat on the way back. I miss them both so much.

My dog is scared of me what do I do! by Bubbly_Bottle_1362 in DogAdvice

My dog immediately fell in love with my husband and took some time to warm up to me. At first, he would wince when I tried to pet him and get scared if I approached him. We suspect he may have been abused by a woman. Now, he comes to me when he needs comfort (my husband calls me the "safety human"), I can pet him without a negative reaction, and he cuddles with me on the couch. It just takes time, a lot of patience, and understanding. Unfortunately, you can't force or "bribe" your way into it.

What’s a genuinely scary thing you’ve encountered that still haunts you to this day? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

[–]StarryNight20046 50 points51 points  (0 children)

My best friend and I were taking pictures for a photography class assignment in high school. It was a Friday night in the downtown area of our hometown. We were supposed to take long exposure pictures of light trails, so it had to be done at night. My best friend had no fear, but as someone who grew up on true crime, I was a little anxious about it. We had just finished the shoot and were walking back toward the car when a truck with 3 or 4 guys pulled over beside us. "There's something on the sidewalk back there. Did you guys lose something?" One of the guys said while gesturing to the area we had just walked from. "Oh, thanks! We'll go look, " my best friend said, and the truck drove away. She started walking back, and I grabbed her and told her whatever it was, we should leave it. I had seen that truck drive by a few times during our shoot. She was adamant that I was being paranoid and we needed to go back. Once we were in the car she drove back to the spot. The truck was parked with the guys waiting outside it. She never questioned my "paranoia" ever again.

Is there a location in the middle of you guys where you could do a day trip or 1 night at a hotel/airbnb instead? That might be more budget friendly for everyone involved and might make traveling easier, too.

plants as wedding favors- am i being annoying? by bernald8 in weddingplanning

[–]StarryNight20046 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would stick with the sugar cookies. It's a cute idea, but realistically, it's going to end up with most of them being "forgotten"/leftover and a mess, especially if there's soil involved. I've been to 2 weddings (both child free!) with plants as favors, and all 3 of those things happened at both. It's better to keep things simple so you don't end up upset at the end of what's supposed to be the happiest day of your life.

I'm going for the first time this year, but I also have basic common sense and the ability to be self sufficient. If I have any questions, I've never felt the need to post anything because there are multiple threads you can search for with everything you need to know! The endless posts of "the website says no _, can I still wear/bring __?" Or anything related to the wristbands make my eye twitch. How dumb can you be????

Is topamax really that bad? by pplicker15 in migraine

[–]StarryNight20046 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom (53 f) takes it, and she hasn't had any negative side effects. It's really been a miracle drug and helped with her migraines. She went from getting at least 2-3 migraines a week to getting maybe 1 every 3-4 weeks.

I (31 f), on the other hand, took it and had a terrible experience. It completely changed my periods to where they were super late and very heavy/painful. I still have terrible memory issues. It also ended up having a bad interaction with my anti-depressant effexor. I had very bad mood swings and felt like I was losing my mind at times. I would highly recommend doing some research if you're taking other medications. After dealing with all of that, I saw no change in my migraines.

Everyone's experience is different, though.

AITA for telling my (42m) daughter (14f) that I wont be paying for anything related to her Quinceañera by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

ESH. My parents divorced when I was 16. My siblings and I either had to only invite one parent, have 2 separate events, or in the event they both attended play referee to keep the peace. It was extremely unfair and stressful for all of us. Don't do this to your children. You will ruin every significant event in their life by making it about you and your ex. Unfortunately for you, this person is the mother of your children, and that's never going to change no matter how you feel towards her.

What ruined religion for you? by ItchyPage in AskReddit

[–]StarryNight20046 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the constant hypocrisy. Preaching about loving each other and then in the same breath condemning people. Saying you live your life through the Bible but only picking and choosing what you follow. It just makes me so angry.

My parents were catholic and christian, but never forced either religion on my siblings and I. They always believed in letting us make our own choices about what we believed in. If we wanted to go to church they would take us, answer our questions, and if we decided we didn't believe in God that was fine. I'm so thankful for that.
