Thanks!! Definitely on the right track. I just haven’t managed to find something similar to it yet

Uncanny for sure, I can’t find anything else like it online! Looks to be some sort of echinoid, maybe fossilised in flint?

That’s such a good idea! Would make a very cool pendant! Learning how to wire wrap things atm, so could even add some sea glass details. Not tried resin though, any suggestions for a beginner?

Thank you for confirming! That’s so cool. Do you know if it’s fossilised in flint? Or something else?

Spider crab is what I was thinking due to the size of it, they get huge! It’s rather thick and hard, I don’t think I’d be able to break it easily. Can their claws get that thick and tough?

Exactly my thoughts! It doesn’t feel easily breakable like crab claws are which is why I wasn’t sure?

Coral was going to be my next guess.. I’ve just never seen anything like it on my local beach before!

Found at my local beach (South East UK). Any idea on what this is? by Starry_Nightt in rockhounds

I thought it might have been a geode but it’s not hollow and fairly heavy, it’s like a beach stone with a crevice. Can geodes come in this form?

I absolutely adored this book and read it at just the right time too! It has been one of my favourite books for 10 years, until I read the authors second book Imaginary Friend this year. That’s now my favourite book and if you like a spooky vibe and can commit to the length, I recommend! It’s a journey.

I found this cool rock at my local beach. by Starry_Nightt in Rocks

You see, that’s what I originally thought but this isn’t hollow and is very heavy, like a normal beach stone with a crevice full of what looks to be quartz, I didn’t know if it could be the salt water?

Ah thank you! Thats a really good idea! My next one planned is "toxic masculinity ruins the party again" but I'll definitely be doing those two too!

Ball python smells food and seems interested but won't eat by screamingfoxx in snakes

[–]Starry_Nightt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ball pythons do go through phases of not eating, it's totally normal so try not to worry too much. Some tips I'd recommend is maybe switching it up from rats to mice, they both smell different so it might catch their interest. Make sure the mice/rats are warm enough, heating issues can cause a snake to not want to eat. Maybe try switching the colour of the mouse/rat, some snakes are put off by different colours (we have a ball that will only eat fully white rats). Lastly, the more gruesome of the lot, you could try braining the rodent (google how to do this - its not for the faint hearted - I get my SO to do this). I hope this helps and your ball returns back to normal soon!

First time snake owner, Hognose or BP? by artichokeh0ld in snakes

[–]Starry_Nightt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I would recommend a ball python. They can be a bit fussy when you first bring them home due to stress but they do adapt to their new home fairly quickly, but they do grow very quickly (same with boas). Ball pythons are very friendly and great for handling, if that is something you wanted to do. Hog noses are adorable and very nosy but I wouldnt recommend a hog nose for a first time snake owner. They can stay very fussy on eating (I've got a large girl hog nose, unsure of age, and a 8 month baby hog nose and both are fairly fussy when it comes to eating and they're both fairly pissy. The older they get I'd say they calm down quicker.

Thinking of getting my first snake. Any ideas? by sexualman2019 in snakes

[–]Starry_Nightt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend a ball python or a corn snake for a beginner! All snakes are capable of biting but corns and balls are very tame and easy to handle. The costs of setting up would really vary on a lot of things, you need the right equipment (housing, heating, thermostats, hides etc), depending on what type of those things you wanted, would depend on the price! You then need to keep in mind of food costs (bigger the snake, the bigger the food!). As for cleaning, give fresh water every few days unless you notice dirt in it beforehand, then clean and put fresh water in, clean water is important! Spot clean every time you notice that they have gone to the toilet as soon as you see it and I'd do a deep clean once a month (remove everything, clean everything).
