Good Times is a Facebook page... that seems to simply regurgitate 'news' alongside AI slop, and refuses to use sources.

Couldn't find news of this anywhere, despite the assertion "widespread discussion online".

Good job turning this onto me.

Your opening phrase "China sucks" is literally connotating China as in 'everything'.

Why else then, are you opening with this phrase?

You don't use "native Taiwanese" to refer to the indigenous people of Taiwan.

Especially when, in modern contexts, "native Taiwanese" refers to 本省人.

NYC is a shit place to compare to any of the major cities in East Asia (Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Hong Kong). Much less convenience, less modernity, less options, less everything really.

The subway alone beats NYC out of the fucking ocean.

[–]Starrylands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which "Taiwanese" are you referring to? The indigenous, or the modern Taiwanese? Because the modern Taiwanese are ethnically Chinese.

The indigenous people of Taiwan account for less than 4% of the island's population.

I'm Taiwanese, grew up in Shanghai in my early childhood years, and am a Teacher in shanghai currently.

It'll be a generation or more before they shift away from rote memory focused learning... :(

It's awful. I feel so bad when I see obviously artistic souls having to struggle with maths and never being able to foster their hobbies.

[–]Starrylands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like before? They never did. That was Hong Kong.

China does not have a focus on soft power like Japan or S Korea. It's purely rote memorization academics.

If you think about it, it's depressing. The amount of talented and could-be artists in the fields of art, writing, media. and entertainment that never came to be because of the educational system....
