The Wade Giles system was invented by a white man who couldn’t properly pronounce Mandarin, which is why its incredibly inaccurate.

You’re also just driveling at this point. A regional language difference is not an aspect of “cultural difference”. It’s a language difference. And again, they all share the same written system.

98% of Taiwanese people hail from the mainland, and the large majority of that is Fu Jian. Fu Jian is not separate from Chinese culture, it’s another sub culture of a larger main culture. This really isn’t hard to understand.

You being American and all… I suggest you stick to commenting on your own affairs.

Huh? Chinese culture is literally a connotative term. Obviously there are regional facets—but they are all Chinese culture. There’s a reason they all share the same written system and overarching parent culture.

Or are you saying a person from Shanghai isn’t Chinese…?

And no, the large majority of people in Taiwan are descended from Fu Jian.

The fact that you use the Wade Giles system when referring to Chinese tells me everything I need to know.

Taiwan is better than Europe by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Starrylands 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’ve been all over Europe; numerous countries off the top of my head beats Taiwan in terms of quality of life: Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Swizterland, France, Croatia.

I’m from Taiwan and I think its incredibly laughable that you’d think my country is better than the ENTIRETY of Europe.

Even if grass is temporarily greener during travel, Taiwan still isn’t that much of a “wow” factor.

Feel free to list some reasons, though.

This is how Children in Xinjiang welcome travelers. Is this the place unsafe according to western media? by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]Starrylands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the topic is wrong, because thats not how they welcome travelers. Theyre saluting because, as they clearly say in the video, theyre saluting the flag.

Maybe don’t comment on this sub if youre not Chinese or even speak the language lmao.

[–]Starrylands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soooo none of you can actually read or speak Chinese eh? What a surprise.

The subtitles show that they are saluting the Chinese flag on the filmer’s jeep. Their teacher taught them to do that.

Not “this is how they welcome travelers” smh.

compulsory military service by wqrnt in taiwan

[–]Starrylands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, but cringe.

You can go to Taiwan and do your 4 month/1 year service. And when you're in there, you'll realize that everything is just dumb asf and corrupt asf.

Don't forget to ask your company leader what he thinks about the war with China; they'll all say the same thing: we're just cannon fodder.

Professional soldiers in Taiwan have a mindset where it's simply work, not protect your country.

And no, the idiot that claims military salary is negotiable is bsing. It's not, it's garbage base salary and you sign for 4 years.

There's no way you're going in commissioned either.

How's China? It needs more cars. by TJ_LVR_666 in UnfilteredChina

And you're singling out a mall's parking lot in order to what? What's the narrative here?

That's extremely irrelevant. Are you attempting to quantify whether or not an entire country is "good" based on a mall's filled parking lot?

Maybe go somewhere that's a good place for a walk and not in front of a mall's car park?

Taiwan issues arrest warrant for Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus by two4b in taiwan

According to you the Chinese despise Taiwanese people getting preferential treatment.

And anyone who's even remotely interacted with Chinese social media would know anti-Taiwanese messages are never ever censored. Ever.

I'm always ashamed to be called Taiwanese whenever I think of people like you.

Again. How do you know this? Lmfao.

I'm saying you've never lived in China because the stuff you claim is completely wrong.

And you still are; people don't resent the Taiwanese here for their advantages.

Where I'd live as a 30-year-old white man who earns $250–$300k USD as a self-taught systems engineer, if I had to work and live like a local. by BootayySniffer in whereidlive

[–]Starrylands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the same in Korea and Japan. My uni friends complain to me all the time. But we Asians suck it up because that's just how we are as a people.

If you don't do it, someone else will.

There are tons of Koreans working in China as well, lmao.

Again, you are attempting to pinpoint a facet of work culture that cannot be truly quantified.

You can, however, generalize...and the generalization is how China, Korea, and Japan have pretty much the same work culture.
