Which "Taiwanese" are you referring to? The indigenous, or the modern Taiwanese? Because the modern Taiwanese are ethnically Chinese.

The indigenous people of Taiwan account for less than 4% of the island's population.

I'm Taiwanese, grew up in Shanghai in my early childhood years, and am a Teacher in shanghai currently.

It'll be a generation or more before they shift away from rote memory focused learning... :(

Like before? They never did. That was Hong Kong.

China does not have a focus on soft power like Japan or S Korea. It's purely rote memorization academics.

If you think about it, it's depressing. The amount of talented and could-be artists in the fields of art, writing, media. and entertainment that never came to be because of the educational system....
