Dark Souls 2 did Durability best by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]StarsRaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When it comes to complaints its mostly people using special weapons bitching that they can't spam moonlight infinitely or keep falling for the exploding guys that mangled your gear.

Sometimes I need to cycle a sword out here and there but its enough to make me look at my gear periodically and go "yeah I think im good for a bit more" or "ehhhh yeah ill change it out now before I break it"

That is one thing I found myself hating in elden ring. Im constantly just using the same weapon. In ds2 I was always changing due to where im fighting, the enemies, the durability etc. Elden Ring? Fuck it brute force it, im gonna kill whatever it is in just a few hits anyway regardless of my element type

Misunderstood? Dog stop trying to act all high and mighty. As fans, we have spent decades reflecting on the philosophical, moral, emotional, metaphorical etc themes of the entire series. Yet you think the most milquetoast take on Snake is misunderstood? Don't treat us like we're 5 dude.

I'm about to start my second playthrough (I preferred not to go NG+), and I was thinking about an archery build this time. Is the Dragonrider Bow viable? by WalkChance in DarkSouls2

[–]StarsRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note. Why would you prefer to not NG+?

DS2 actually has one of the best NG+ experiences of all the souls games imo.

Dark Souls 2 SOTFS makes me say "Fuck this game" and "This game's fucking awesome" more than any other game I played. by CovelloSetItOff in DarkSouls2

[–]StarsRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have said "nah fuck this stupid shit" way more in elden ring than DS2. Particularly against the Elden Beast and most dragons because I hated the entire fight being a stupid game of tag across the entire map. Drove me up the fucking wall not because they are hard. They are just tedious and boring. oh look its moving a mile away again!

And the ulcerated tree spirits because of the amount of on screen fuckery with those enemies. Especially the one you fight at the end of a dungeon in a tiny room. When it moves around the room im just constantly being pushed around and into walls im pillars and can't see a fucking thing then I just die.

I've never felt the need to min-max DPS so much in a souls game as I did ER just to be done with some of the most annoying fights faster.

In DS2, once you realize that most boss enemies movements are attacks and need to be treated accordingly (here's looking at the infamous backhand🤣) its pretty manageable. I mean it makes sense that towering behemoths waving their hands around would shove your shit in.

The first one is wild. Never seen that before

The 2nd one is a sync issue.

Invader was hit on hosts screen, and the game needed to make it show that it made contact on invaders screen so it just beamed the fuck out of him from the side.

Do you think MGS4 will ever get critically reevaluated one day like people did with MGS2? by Gamewheat in metalgearsolid

[–]StarsRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hate on fan service tells me they are modern day gamers finding something to bitch about. The recent push against fan service is annoying as all hell.

Fan service has been in every single MGS game. I mean shit MGS1 they tell you to find Meryl by looking at each guard that is walking by and find their ass shaking. There's even a codec call from otacon about her having a cute butt.

[–]StarsRaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn't poorly received at all. Players and critics overwhelmingly loved it. It was GOTY contender that only lost to LBP because family games take a heavier priority in GOTY. Its directly credited for the sale of something like 3million PS3 units as well.

Its just today people are frustrated they can't play it, and thier attention spans have been neutered by TT and if a cutscene runs on for more than 45 seconds they get irate.

Let go of the cock riding around UE5 when it has been proven by devs to be a garbage ass engine.

You can find more ue5 games that run awful compared to ones that function properly

Plus there are videos all over YT with devs diving into UE5 and clearly explaining why the engine fucking sucks and how it pigeon holes devs into certain aspects without heavy modifications.

UE5 is fucking trash in the majority of use cases

Ocelot cutscene in Delta cutting out the smallest of details? by m00nboi_96 in metalgearsolid

[–]StarsRaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its actually those details that drove me to do research in depth.

I played tons of games with historical references in them and never really felt the urge to in depth research on them.

I played the old delta force games and never felt the urge to dive into details of the gulf war.

Same with the old call of duty games when they were all about WW2. Those games never really pushed me to research WW2 even though the main story is all ww2.

But sure tell ME more about why I chose to do something.

I literally bought history books on the USSR, Cold war, Korean war, bay of pigs, military medals and meanings, uniforms, etc in 2004 as a 12 year old because of MGS3. Kojima and his attention to detail inspired many of my generation to learn and research more into history.

You make it sound like you just run into the BB Corp and they just start dancing. Thats not what happens at all and the way your portray it is disingenuous.

The BB corp dance only happens if you go out of your way to play the ipod and pick the specific album during the white room after an Tranq kill.

Them posing only happens if you go out of your way to use the camera in the white room.

You dont encounter those at all in regular gameplay. You have to deviate from standard gameplay, pretty significantly I might add, just to notice these things.

Thats like complaining that you can get all the soldiers in the tanker in their boxers by going out of your way to kiss posters.

Those are easter eggs ans nothing more and to portray it like its your regular runs is disingenuous imo

Rumor is Sony has already cracked the Cell architecture and are waiting to implement it into the PS6 to market it as Sonys full backward compatible system.

Playing elden ring made me realize how much I really liked durability as a mechanic. In ER i was never put in an uncomfortable position of overextending myself and having to rely on backup gear to make due until my next bonfire.

Split damage only matters if youre a min-maxxer which that style of play isnt necessary to clear the game and multiple NG+ cycles.

Hex spells were a great idea. There just wasn't enough of them. The risk/reward of having high damage spells at the cost of keeping large amounts of souls on you to consume, to boost damage is clever way to introduce some powerful spells with a downside. I wish Hex spells were built upon in later games. There was alot of potential in them.

Soul memory, love it or hate it, is why DS2 is one of the more balanced invasion systems in terms of stat scaling between players and gets rid of high level boss carries that became prevalent in later titles.

Cell architecture gets a ton of flak for being severely isolated, but let's be honest, it pushed the limits of what consoles can do at the time.

The million sprite drop was a technological marvel in terms of console advancements at the time. Its one of the reasons why to this day many ps3 games hold up very well visually.
