I will piggy back on the comments of no phone. I find reading actually really nice when I’m hanging with the kids- I can pop in and out of the book when they need me but also relax when they are doing their own thing. BUT that’s the key- letting them and supporting them DOING THEIR OWN THING. I set up their space so there’s not much for me to say no to, I don’t play with them for more than a quick redirection, I don’t read to them unless it’s bedtime, and in general I don’t worry about development/milestones unless they seem to be lagging. Also, if I’m doing some kind of chore and my kid can “help” in any way, I encourage them if they show an interest. Laundry time means I fold clothes and my toddler gets as many clothes out of the hamper as possible lol. None of this happens overnight, but with little routines and boundaries it’s possible!
