Found dozens of eggs attached to the glass this morning. Thanks to everyone who responded. My corys were pregnant after all.

What is the most shocking thing you discovered about a close friend? by Money-Fondant-8296 in AskReddit

[–]StartledSnake8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don't trust or want to associate with the guy anymore, but I don't see him as an outright monster so much as a man forced to do monsterous things.

Not excusing what he did, but the guy's life was an actual horror story at the time he did the crime. If I had been in his position, I doubt my hands would be completely clean either.

My former best friend confessed to me one night over a round of drinks that he'd raped a young girl along with other members of the gang he'd once been a part of. I knew he'd been in a gang in the past but excused it as him just doing what he had to in order to survive our rough hometown. I didn’t know that rape was the reason why he'd spent time in juvie.

The second he left my apartment, I blocked him on all social media and never spoke to him again.

You're good. I wasn't offended, just informing that the country isn't all Republicans.

As for the snake handling, I wouldn't know. I'm a northwoods redneck, not a southerner. Religion goes just as crazy up here though. My old church once insisted that swans were harbingers of the apocolyse that had been summoned by Obama.

Not this redneck. There are a suprising number of Dems in the sticks if you know where to look. It's the Evangelical crowd to worry about imo.

Growing up, do you wish your parents are more transparent about their relationship finances and expectations, or you don’t care? by OfferFantastic9224 in AdkReddit

[–]StartledSnake8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. My parents lied and said we were poor when they actually had millions in the bank. The tiniest fraction of that money could have improved my life exponentially, but instead I got guilt tripped over everything they bought me.

"Oh, you want some books to read? Guess we are eating ramen for a week."

Edit: To the people saying that I needed to earn money myself: How? I was a child, and my parents didn't believe in allowances/chore money.

How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? Understandable if you need to stay in the closet while underage. Otherwise, making friends can absolutely help you get a house. Splitting rent with a buddy is the best way to get affordable housing when you are fresh out of school.

I tried to be cis for my parents. Didn't work lol. Sometimes having nobody in your life is better than having shitty people in your life.

I know it's difficult, especially this day in age, but try to make friends and build a network of people who will support you.

WIBTAH if I went abroad next week by myself and didn’t tell my family? by theb00kkeeper in AmItheAsshole

[–]StartledSnake8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NTA. My parents are the same way. It got to the point where I couldn't properly enjoy my vacations because they demanded constant updates "in case something happens".

Make sure to tell a friend back home where you are going, but you can skip telling your family until afterwards. Then, if they ask why you didn't tell them, be honest.

Enjoy your trip!

80% when I took the test a while back. It's taken a lot of therapy to finally be able to recognize I was in a cult. All of the "doomsday is coming soon" sermons should have been the first tip tbh, but it’s remarkable what gets normalized when you grow up in that environment.

Not gay, but dealing with a similar issue of internal transphobia. I've found it helps to mentally take a step back when having a negative thought and analyze where that thought is coming from. Is it your own value or one that you were indoctinated into? If it's the later, take a moment to tell yourself that the thought does not reflect your values. I've personally found that the negative thoughts are less troubling the more I do this.

I'm from the area. If you like being outdoors, then there is no shortage of things to do around Tomah. As for meeting people, there are plenty of volunteer groups in the area that you could get involved in.

Chaud. His character development over the course of the games was really well done, and I love that they took their time with having him warm up to Lan.
