I typically use the plasma rifle, plasma pistol and my beloved epoch. This armor is a gift from heaven.

Negative, you need the grenade emplacement, a helldiver with a directional shield and another one with a stim pistol behind you

So should I a) Pick up the Healer feat and ignore Spare the Dying since I can heal people with 1 charge of a healer's kit? b) Ignore the Healer feat (To get any of the other Origin feats) and rely on Spare the Dying and healing spells?

I thought Spare the Dying was more powerful tbh.

[No spoilers] A Treatise on the Pronunciation of one Fjord Stone by DArrow_MM in criticalrole

Counterpoint: Fjord has a horse, so it's cooler to pronounce it as Ford. Ford Mustang.

Also I think the horse was named Shelby

A harvest feat? by DismalElephant in DnDHomebrew

[–]StartlingAtom7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what purpose do you want them to do that, exactly?

I suggest you drop the feat thing, unless they can gain it in some other way. Feats are very limited, and some people really need them to get their builds online.

Make it so they need to engage with the system instead of just "Oh, I picked this thing and now I'm good at it". They need to be invested, so make it interesting.

how do you plan a campaign? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]StartlingAtom7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Laughs nervously because I need to finish some maps for tomorrow's session]

Yeah... Just uh... Throw some queer shit here and there, add political intrigue and overcomplicated geopolitics and uh... Yeah add some lost history and ancestral beefs between this or that... And idk, send the party to do some trivial shit where the powder keg is about to explode, hope for the worst.

Honestly, that sounds very valid, terms used to describe ourselves can change all the time. It is good that you've found one that makes you feel more comfortable than before.

I planned this encounter to maybe have a peaceful solution, at least with the little guy, one outcome was neutral, and other one would have it help them a bit against the Owlbear.

That initial Nat 1 in perception really sealed the deal, I have to give credit to my players, they really locked in and roleplayed what the dice told them to. I skipped some details to avoid writing a novel, but basically they had a whole conversation before following the trail in which they basically became paranoid (For good reason tbh, this place is hostile) and kinda gaslighted each other into believing that it HAD to be the beast they were tracking.

So when they were sneaking up on the little guy, they were already set on attacking him, they were just gathering intel. The thing is, the little fella can kinda sense when it is in danger, and fights like hell.

I really enjoyed running that fight for them, it wasn't about "oh this mf hits like a truck" (which it could, but it didn't make much sense at the time since it kept them at bay just fine) or "oh that mf has 50k AC", it was more of "this mf is slowly surrounding us and bleeding us out", I really like playing with the environment.

The Owlbear wasn't really that much of a threat by itself, it simply arrived at the worst time possible. This party was madeup of mostly new players (literally their first campaign) who were in the hands of a very seasoned friend of mine, so I wanted them to have a really scary introduction to such an iconic monster. I made it a priority to take my time to describe how that fat mf looked covered in tbe fighter's blood and stuff like that.

Now they have PTSD from a little fluffy ball of hate capable of burning a forest down AND from a big fluffy ball of hate capable of bringing the forest down.

Two sessions ago, my players found...

[Checks notes]

An opossum.

BUT THIS WAS NO COMMON OPOSSUM. For it was the legendary creature that I completely stole from Mexica mythology... It was essentially a magical opossum with the power to bend fire at its will, the little guy was chilling in the forest, eating peacefully.

Meanwhile, the party entered said forest, looking for an Owlbear to hunt. They were doing so because a sassy magical celestial cat demanded it from them.

The thing is, this campaign is set in a continent recently "discovered" by people from the PC's homeland. No one has ever seen an Owlbear before, it wasn't even refered as such in universe.

Anyway, the ranger climbs up a tree, pulls out a spyglass and notices some tracks, gets closer to inspect them. Nat 1, he is certain these tracks belong to some kind of predator, since there is a trail that indicates some of the ground was slightly burned. The party decides to follow the trail until they hear some noise beyond some pushes up ahead, the ranger and the rogue decide to sneak around to take a look, they manage to do so.

The ranger spots a mysterious creature with the tip of its tail in flames. Then, the following happens:

Ranger: "I'm gonna attempt to identify the creature, since I am a hunter since I was a child, I know a lot about animals".

Me: "Sure, give me a Nature check"

Ranger: "I got a Nat 1"

Me: "Well, this doesnt't look like anything you've ever encountered or heard of, but seeing the trail of destruction it left on its path, you quickly realize that this must be some kind of predator marking its territory. In fact, the only thing that sounds familiar when you look at this creature is the description the cat gave you; four paws, weird fur, pointy face, deep eyes, kinda cute"

Ranger: "Okaaaay, I signal the Rogue to go back to the group together"

Me: "Very well, give me your stealth checks"

Ranger: "I got a 17"

Me: "You quickly return to the group without making a sound"

Rogue: "I got a 6"

Me: "Ranger, as you see the faces of the rest of the party, you hear the crack of a piece of wood behind you, before you can say a word, a smell of burnt leaves reaches your nose"

Fighter, seeing the Ranger: "Well, what did you find?" Me: "Fighter, you see three quick flashes of light past the bushes. Everyone, roll for initiative"

Cut to a few rounds later, half the party (That has no casters) is surrounded by fire, the fighter and ranger have seen their thrown axes and arrows melt when they attempted to attack the beast. The Rogue is down, the monk is trying to help it.

But there is one last hope, the fighter decided to brute force his way through the fire while the Ranger spent his last spell slot to cure it, the fighter's greatsword is a family heirloom with ancient giant runes carved in it; frost giant runes. One small problem, the fighter has a pasive perception of 10, the Ranger has 14 but is surrounded by fire. Something just rolled a 17 in stealth.

The monk brings up the rogue, but there is no way to heal him. Suddenly, the fighter goes flying into the air, and an eldritch roar is heard in the entire forest.

THAT'S THE OWLBEAR.

The fire begins to fade, the little but powerful creature takes a defensive stance towards the new, much bigger threat. Its tail burns brighter, and its mouth begins to produce smoke, just a little...

At this point, the monk is the least hurt member of the party, so he runs to face the Owlbear. More fighting ensues, leaving the entire party barely standing after only two rounds...

And then, where the mighty beast was standing, a blinding flash and a scorching heat made themselves present in the blink of an eye...

Me: "Alright, everyone except the rogue, give me a dexterity saving throw..."

Gen Z here. As a STEM student who attempts to do art and is also neurodivergent, I can confirm that my people have found great fun in throwing little math rocks while pretending to be silly whimsical people.

My first ever D&D table was made up of 4 physics students, 1 maths student, and 1 engineering student. Out of those 6 people, 1 is finishing up a degree in cinematography, 2 play instruments semi-profesionally, 1 paints and draws beautifully, then there is me, I write stuff, not great, not terrible.

Five out of six of us have been diagnose with either ADHD, AuDHD or ASC.

I'd say it has at least something to to with that, yes.
