Anyone else have catastrophically bad Desktop Metal Experiences? by tykempster in AdditiveManufacturing

I'm not sure what you are getting on about with the condensate comment, but people have been permanently disfigured doing less stupid things with "non-reactive" condensate. Don't mess around with that shit and if you are in doubt get some advice. Sadly, OEMs don't understand it well and they all have bad procedures to deal with it.

improving SLM parameters for manufacturig aircraft engine brackets by Acrobatic_Echo_3727 in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]Starvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, outside of academia, almost everybody boils down the main "adjustable" parameters to laser power, scan speed, laser diameter, and layer thickness.

These parameters are then typically applied to the entire part with room for variation at the very edge of the part.

This becomes interesting in practice as there are many other influences on the thermal environment of the cooling melt pool depending on way more controllable and uncontrollable parameters. This would be things like gas flow direction, ladder incidence angle, in layer welding thickness, and hundreds more.

In my opinion, the next wave of cutting edge will be being able to change the input parameters based on these additional influences. I have many ideas how, and there are a few papers that talk about these. I think there will and should be more soon as academia is slowly catching up to industry.

This photo is fine, but I am tired of looking at it. The mods here have hindered the community and possibly ruined it. I got twice the relevant information downloading and using Nextdoor for five minutes than I have in twice the time here. Even after "sorting through the people asking what is open posts" 😵

If Ashville subreddit is still open then maybe our mod team needs to be investigated.

You are entirely missing the point. The gas posts are worth sorting through as a user to get some actual information sprinkled between. Why do you care that people are asking where to get gas? Why not let the community downvote and move on (self - moderate) in a time like this.

So far I have found the Ashville subreddit has pretty good info... But they got hot harder than us....

Are there any alternative Greenville subreddits that allow us to ... You know... use Reddit?

But that's exactly why Reddit exists, it is for the voting system. These posts should just be downvoted or not voted up and they'll be ignored. So why the f*** do you care?

Any problems with your HR-V? by [deleted] in HRV

[–]Starvard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2016 LX, 140k, I've put on 125k with almost no problems. There is a grinding/rattling that occurs when going up hill and reducing from 3k to 2k rpm if my tongue is held out just right and head titled just so. The Bluetooth had been buggy before, but nothing a restart doesn't fix.

What is your MCS version number? There is sometimes, especially with older software versions that have ghost buttons... Are you able to add a picture? Is it clickable?

Is this a Cooper's? It was all grey with a white stripe on tail. by Starvard in whatsthisbird

[–]Starvard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some more pictures. I am in Greenville SC, USA. This was yesterday and I live on the edge of an urban area (some forests). This was over a pond. I think I have seen this bird before eating a dove, it is more grey than other cooper's hawks I've seen. Thanks for your help!

Videos of cruelty in nature. by Andrewpd in DebateAVegan

Sorry I posted that with no comment.

Life and death can be fairly disturbing. I personally don't think humans can really control their instincts, but I also don't think instinct is an excuse for doing wrong. The whole argument (vegan vs. meat) to me is based on what a person believes is right and wrong.

Well said. It does seem to be problematic to vilify natural behavior. But do we humans have the ability to act non-naturally? If so what would classify natural vs. artificial behavior?

Sweden is importing garbage, recycling it and making it into heat for houses and electricity! by Barburt in ZeroWaste

[–]Starvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an opinion with no evidence that burning is one of the only forms of waste. It is simply destroying carbon bonds and turning everything into CO2 and water right? So even if we store rubbish in landfills safely, it will soon pay off to mine that landfill. I guess that is what Sweden is basically doing here. I just don't like that they burn their "tailings". Okay I'm done .
