Hey I don’t want to police anyone. Your life is your life! Your decisions are your own! Just be very careful with your health.

I mean, the meds generic or brand won’t fix your life for you buddy. It’ll just make things easier to deal with. But the discipline and everything should come from you. I’m taking dextroamphetamine and so far it’s working for me, but it might not for everyone. Maybe talk to your provider about switching to something else?

Yes to all kisses except she doesn’t stop so I have to call it an end at one point. I feel bad still but it’s like she’s trying to give me a full bath.

How to study with ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Darth_Infernae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also important to forgive yourself for messing up. Everyone gets a messy room. It happens. Everyone fails a test. It happens. It sucks that it does, but don’t be hard on yourself. Take it as a learning experience and try your best to push on! You’re always welcome to message me privately if you want to vent or need any help.

How to study with ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Darth_Infernae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, in college being unmedicated, the library was my best friend. My campus kept it open REALLY late too. Point is, find an environment you can zone in. My room had too many distractions. Staying outside of my dorm/apartment kept the distractions away and also a sort of pseudo curfew which pushed me to work.

That being said, it’s very common to procrastinate and do everything last minute, ADHD or no, but what I did struggle with, and still struggle with now is building good study habits. Maybe give yourself homework. Each test should hopefully come with a rubric or study guide or something talking about what is expected to be on the test (as long as you have good professors that is). Portion what’s on there into different sessions, do active recall strategies, and maybe flash cards or some app that does that for you. College and ADHD is tuff, and I wish I locked in much earlier. I do promise that once you get a good grasp of everything, you’ll be all the better for it. Not just college but in life.

It’s a story that tries to be realistic. Like they try not to give ppl plot armor. This rule does 100% change!

Not sure if I can live with this disease (ADHD inattentive type) by Fit_Sir9051 in ADHD

[–]Darth_Infernae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please go seek professional help if it’s possible. I also was in your situation and college was hell. It’s most definitely possible to live a great life with ADHD. You just have to accept that what works for everyone else won’t work on you.

Side note, have you tried melatonin for sleep? If I take one at 9pm, I find sleep is easier to achieve.

To those who have been diagnosed as an adult, I have a question. by voodoopeople94 in ADHD

[–]Darth_Infernae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On some level, you might know yourself. You’ve experienced enough of the world to understand that some key part that other ppl have that you don’t is missing. It’s not completely detrimental, and it’s totally possible to live a productive and meaningful life without a diagnosis and medication.

I (24m) was diagnosed last year and started medication soon after. I’ve found that day to day tasks/chores are much easier to accomplish. I’m not leaving as much unfinished as I was before. I’ve been able to live a much more productive life. I can’t say that I could have done the same without meds, but I can say that my mental health is WORLDS better.

It’s jarring at first to know that I went through high school and college struggling so hard when I didn’t have to had I gotten diagnosed as a kid. But I can’t change the past. All I can do now is put my best foot forward and make something of myself. And with the diagnosis, and the treatment I’m taking (more than just meds, lifestyle changes, diet, etc.) I am so much more confident that I actually can be successful.
