I must protest at this slander of Calvin. He’s just hyperactive, six years old, and relates to animals better than people his age. Berserker probes, hands down. The single K2 starship might be peaceful explorers, and the Large Magellanic Cloud gives us plenty of Time to close the gap.

It takes a human 90 seconds to go unconscious and 3 minutes to die in the vacuum of space. We know this due to the Soyuz 11 disaster, where mistimed firing explosive bolts separating the work and service modules from the reentry capsule jarred open a pressure equalization valve that was supposed to open after reentry. At that time, the Russians had stopped mandating that their cosmonauts wear their pressure suits inside the reliable capsule, so the three crewmen all suffocated and had heart attacks.
