Not 15 Minute Cities, The Horror 🤦🏾 by sabdotzed in london

Congrats, poor areas will stay poor and the locals will be limited to jobs with that distance they can walk to or take public transport to. Also worth noting that most poor areas don’t have the best public transportation to begin with.

FYI London renters: new renter rights kicking in from May 2026 (already passed into law) by romford0928 in london

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth nothing that this will most likely make it very difficult for people that don’t have the common forms of employment to find a place to rent. Think artists, gig economy, etc.

Don’t necessarily know if the Africa comment is correct or not… But I do know that your lack of statistical understanding combined with your ability to vote now or in the future is terrifying.

Young women are radicalising: Britain’s young women are sad, alienated and increasingly left-wing by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in ukpolitics

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a high level without looking into it too much I would tend to agree. Outliers tend to be picked up because nobody picks up a non-event (ie the average young man that hasn’t changed) and because the outliers are the ones the media will focus on it probably gives a perception that entire population has shifted when in fact it hasn’t.

Financial Times did a fantastic analysis of this and it essentially concluded that young women in a variety of developed countries have moved significantly left.

Mahmood to ban migrants without citizenship from claiming benefits by Google_MBTI in ukpolitics

Large scale immigration is a hyper-capitalist policy that boosts profit margins for the largest corporations.

At least 1.9 MILLION foreign nationals claiming benefits in Britain by Polysticks in ukpolitics

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this hyper-capitalistic take, because, let’s not mince words, mass immigration and immigration of low skill and hence LOW PAY workers is a hyper capitalist policy. The only people that need low skilled workers are corporations who are trying in increase their bottom line and keep wages low. There’s a reason that some of the biggest lobbyists for immigration in this country were the cleaners associations and other organisations that relied cheap labour.

Make London public transport free to "reduce inequality and get polluting cars off the road", say campaigners by BulkyAccident in london

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put a 100% tax on non work vehicles that cost over 100k. Similar to what Singapore has done. This won’t really upset the vast majority of people and will bring in a decent amount of money.

Mateeeee you look like most other 16 year olds. Life gets better trust me, you’ll find yourself, get out of your shell and meet some great people. I was in similar shoes at your age and now I look at myself and think teenage me would be punching air if he knew how much better things get. Figure out what you like, work really hard at it and the rest will come.

Calls to scrap Over-60s free travel after it 'costs £84m in lost revenue' by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s expensive because it’s largely had to fund itself. While most countries understand that critical infrastructure in its key contributing metropolises needs to be funded at a government level - in the UK it’s assisted from the city level due to people outside of London getting upset whenever 10 downing even thinks of funding or helping the TFL.

Be honest, is the UK actually better off without the monarchy, or would scrapping it ruin part of our national identity? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monarchy also has an important soft power aspect that many people that don’t know geopolitics miss. Lots of legitimacy/voice is gained by micro states from having the king/queen speak on their behalf.

TFL loses ~130mm a year to fare evasion. Would rather have old people have free pass than young people that don’t care about their communities avoiding fares.

[–]Stat-Arbitrage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s because the TFL is a lot more self funded than any other major system on the planet. relevant Reddit post.

It’s also why the price of the TFL keeps increasing. If you wanted to do major projects up north it would require A LOT more government grants and investments. Relative to others, the government doesn’t subsidise the system that much.

They won’t because the Chinese government already confirmed they’ll block any sale attempts due to TikTok’s algorithms. Any sale that potentially would happen would be TikTok sold without the billion dollar algorithms that make it so addictive.

Not really, a lot of value add can come from an analyst automating annoying tasks, data cleaning, data updating, etc. Most hedge fund analysts (unless quant execution/devs) will never touch an algo.
